One last question. It's okay to go for the 40GB, right? There's no difference other then the space available, and the BC? I have a ps2, don't plan on ditching it, and won't play many ps2 games... sooo... and I play maybe 1-3 games at a time, often only one. I don't need huge space. There's no difference in the power of playing PS3 and Blu-Ray discs? No other features that are stripped?

Yes, if you do not care of the BC for PS1/PS2. There's no difference other then the space available, and the BC? This is the difference, not much if you just want the PlayStation 3 for Blu-Ray Disc Films/Anime and of course PlayStation 3 games. There's no difference in the power of playing PS3 and Blu-Ray discs? Not that I know of, so it's a no. |

Glad the Uncharted demo was a blast.
The game definitely looks to be one of the best this year, maybe of the last few years as well. The graphics are really underrated. Too many games are going for the whole black and white/sepia war tones. Glad to see some color once in a while. |

Btw, as far as I understand the 40GB model has less USB ports, but it still has some (2 I think). To sum it up the 40GB model should be fine for the following things: - Playing PS3 games and anything PS3 related (Playstation network, demos etc, etc) - Playing Blu-ray discs - Playing nicely upscaled DVDs (which is useful if your old DVD player doesn't produce a nice picture on your HDTV if you have one) |

Indeed, 40gb has 2.
USB is required for any wireless (non bluetooth) peripherals. I'm really not sure why Sony decided to downsize the number of USB ports, because this could be quite detrimental for future releases. Good thing Rock Band, for one, is using wireless! Another biggie you'll be seeing bluetooth for is Mouse/Keyboard support. UT3, for example, will support it on the PS3. I assume the EyeToy does as well. |

From what I see on wiki the 40 gb ps3 doesn't have SACD playback. Is that important? What does it do? I also heard that the hardware in the 40 gb on was cheaper(doesn't last long) then the 80 gb ps3. So does that mean the 40gb ps3 would break down before a 80gb ps3? Is this true?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacd I have always been wanting to try out some SACDs in the past (spent quite a bit on my audio setup) but just can't be bothered spending money on a separate SACD player. So I was very glad when I knew the PS3 could play SACD. (I have seen people on other forums who aren't going to buy the 40GB version just because they took out SACD playback) I also noticed that most firmware 2.00 update lists didn't say that it is now possible to output SACD through optical. This is extremely important for people who don't have a receiver that supports HDMI. |

I am saving up for the PS3 as we speak. I just blew most of my savings on a Samsung HDTV. I'll be using the PS3 as a replacement for most of my equipment. I'll have the Wii for, well, Wii-age. Nes, Snes, N64, Gamecube and Wii gaming. And I'll have the PS3 for Playstation 3 games, upconverting SD DVDs, and playing Blu-Ray (which is going to win the format war, I am sure.) Afterwards I'll get a decent 5.1 setup.

we dunno whos gonna win the format race, rite now the price of HD-DVD is slightly lower, so the race is still on.
But ya the PS3 pretty much replace everything u'll ever need in an entertainment set, aside from like the TV and the home theatre system :3

calling out to all fellow Playstationites! I need to add some mates to my mate list to tear it up on CoD4. Somehow on sabotage, ppl think the aim of the game is to run away from our bomb carrier instead of defending him or camping on domination
I would shout abuse at the nubs but I don't have a mic atm, so best I can do is throw a flash bang in their face anyone want to add me, user name: BontaKun3000

Yes. It's up to the publisher if they want to charge a monthly fee for playing online or not. Probably a few of MMORPG that eventually will come out on the PS3 will do so, but many other games will not.
The only PS3 game I got that has online features is Motorstorm and playing it online is completely free. |

Are there any MMORPG's scheduled for release on the PS3? That would be amazing. I'll finally be at the age of majority this summer, and therefore will be able to grab a credit card (for monthly fees, the only thing keeping me back from MMORPGs currently. Plus I don't have a graphics-capable computer and many of those games don't support Mac ether way. And no, I'm not going to play WoW...)
A few more PS3 questions. I am aware of what Home is going to become in the future, and I'm blown away. I think I'll spend more time there, then actually gaming. I'm a sucker for these types of features. But what is home like currently? Is it similar, just on a smaller scale... or is it not even released yet? What's the difference between the SIX-AXIS and DualShock controllers? In my mind, I would think SIX-AXIS has the motion control, and DualShock has the feedback rumble, nether having both. Is this correct, or...? I don't think rumble is all that exciting, really... How does the PS Store work? I know I'll be using it for HD trailers and demos mostly. Can you download HD trailers from it? Do they stream, or download to the HDD? Are HD trailers free, are game demos free? I'd assume, as they are forms of advertising... Thanks. |

- I was just speaking hypothetically about the MMORPGs for PS3; I don't even know which, if any, are currently announced for it.
- I'm not sure what the current equivalent of Home for PS3 is. I don't think there is one really. - Afaik the only extra feature of the Dual Shock 3 is the rumble and other than that it does everything the SIXAXIS does, so that includes the motion sensors. Otherwise you'd need two controllers: one for games with rumble and the other for games with motion control, which would be a bit of a drag. Plus in the future the Dual Shock 3 is going to be the only controller included with new PS3s and the SIXAXIS is going to disappear afaik. - PS Store works fairily simply: you register an account and when you visit it, it's like you're using an internet browser, except that you can only visit one site. Most trailers are HD, some are only in HD while others you can choose formats (SD or HD). Afaik all trailers and demos are completely free, you only have to pay for downloadable games and extra content (like new maps, levels, cars etc for various games), but this is clearly marked. Interestingly there is no restriction for putting different user accounts with different Playstation network accounts on your PS3, so you can in fact also browse the Japanese store and download Japanese demos and trailers, if you manage to register a Japanese account that is. Also when I registered my US PS3 (which I imported for various reasons, but mainly because the initial US model PS3 still has great PS2 compatibility for my library of US PS2 RPGs) with my (real) European address (so that I could also check out the European store) Sony sent me the free copy of Casino Royale* and what's more: it was region free so that I could play it too! *) Afaik in the US (and maybe Canada) there was (and maybe still is?!?) a promotion where you get 5 free Blu-ray movies with a purchase of a PS3, I think, but in Europe you only got Casino Royale |

Ah, thanks so much for the response! That cleared up a lot. Are some of the trailers SD *only*? Other then that, everything's pretty clear.
Oh, and yeah, the 5 free Blu-Ray movies is still being offered, in both Canada and the US. They switched up the movies from the previous deal (that was the summer/fall deal, now they're running a winter deal...) Mail-in for 5 free, one from each category of a limited selection (really annoying when there are two you want, and they are both in the same category!) The 40GB models are also packaged with the Spiderman 3 Blu-Ray. I don't think I'll be purchasing many Blu-Ray titles, but one I simply can't pass up is Superbad... if I do notice a significant jump in quality from SD DVD to HD Blu-Ray. My HDTV is small. I have a great upconverting player. DVDs look great anyway. |
