Ah.... Finally, Tohka's "Bankai" mode WOOT

I watched the first two episodes of this and just couldn't get into it. The first episode especially was confusing and I can't believe that after finding out his little sister is the captain of a giant air ship, who inexplicably goes from being a nice little sister to a complete ***** wanting him to lick her feet and calling him names... yet he shows no reaction of surprise or anything.

He doesn't even really try to question what spirits are and just does what he's told... and they don't even give an explanation as to why he got chosen to try and romance these spirits. It all felt rushed and like they're just going through the motions.

I don't know if the LN was like that, but the anime so far has definitely done nothing for me.

REGARDING THE PRE-AIRING STREAM
As I mentioned in the RDG thread, at this time we are only going to have that one experiment of splitting the thread (because in that case it's a two week gap and it makes things even more complicated).

For this thread, I'd like to ask that all viewers watching the low-res stream (or variations thereof) please keep their entire posts discussing these episodes in properly-labelled spoiler tags, and do not discuss the episode in the clear until the main TV broadcast. (Properly-labelled means it needs to at least identify the episode you're discussing so people know whether it's safe to open the tag or not.)

I know this isn't ideal or perfect, but please try to live with this arrangement for now. We'll revisit the way things are going in a little bit to measure the effectiveness of each approach.

There is a good thing and a bad thing they changed about the fight between Tohka and Origami. I always thought it was weird how Origami didn't seem too fazed about shooting dead her crush in the light novel, so they properly gave her the shocked and traumatized treatment in the anime.

The bad thing is that upgraded Tohka is annihilating the AST squad in single swings in the novel, while in the anime it took her something like half-a-minute of swinging constantly at Origami to break through her barrier. Come'on AIC, this is the girl that could potentially take on the world's militaries and destroy them without breaking much of a sweat!

I hope that in the next ep they bring in the scene where Origami apologizes to Shidou for, well basically killing him.

Aww her reaction faces and ribbon, I almost died of heart attack. I like it much better than the LN. Glad I stopped reading the LN at volume 1 to enjoy the anime version.

Well, can't say there weren't any funny moments, because I enjoyed some of them. The issue here was pacing, and the results aren't pretty, plus it ended up feeling kind of rushed. Too many things squeezed in. I would say if they split the thing into two episodes we'd just about get things covered a lot better. The end was okay however.

I guess the way they tried to portray Tohka as having an innocent disposition underneath that initial distrust was pretty funny and had its cute moments, seeing as she's never knew anything in the human world, outside of being attacked of course. I went "HNNNNGGGGHH" at her energetic inquisitiveness.

Well, I just hope the pacing settles somewhat in the next few arcs. Next up is my personal favourite: Yoshino's arc!

Aside from pacing, this show still has some awkward BGM placements. It just didn't sit well with me when they start off the episode an insert song and then ending the climax with the opening song for which was supposedly a romantic scene.

But did sure one helluva job at portraying at Tohka's cuteness. She was so adorable that I that I couldn't help but put up stupid a grin on my face and squeal KAWAIIIIIIIIII~

God, why does Tohka have to be so freaking MOE!? She's so MOE that it makes me forget the flaws of the episode.

A good episode, thought I didn't expect them to change as much as they didas well as the pacing but I guess it could not be helped. One I did not expect to see was kotori dressed up as a (cute) MAID!!
The best part of the whole episode for me was without a doubt Tohka and her overwhelming cuteness. I wonder how many Kotori and Origami fans will junp ship and join Tohka's camp after seeing this episode. I will admit that after seeing Kotori's dance at the beginning at episode 1 my loyalty to Tohka shook (if only for a moment). Episode 3 reminded me why Tohka is best!

Apparent mood swings and putting up a cold tsun side to the "enemies" while displaying that curious dere side to Tokha... sounds pretty normal to me. I mean, if someone displays some kindness to an otherwise unforgiving people, isn't such an outcome not normal?

I personally think it combines both ecchi/moe elements and plot. And rom com. And I kinda like it this way.

I can't say I'm completely sold on this show yet. Kotori turning from cute little sister to snarky commander totally rubbed me the wrong way. And while shows like these are never known for their outstanding plots, this is swiftly becoming a bit too silly, even for me.

I'll probably give it one or two more episodes to win me over.
