ALSO! Check out Vivienne To's Sketch Blog:
(Click on image) For updates on the background art. She's an amazing artist... and a generous friend who's volunteered to do the backgrounds to my animation. =) |

Oh, the way you animated it was really cool. The backgrounds are just amazing xD But I'm still wondering about the script though... Anyway, cookies for your hard work ^^ |

Thanks guys. =D I'm pretty excited about it myself... got really talented people working on it.
innominate: what were you wondering about the script...? As in, the story? ZeRoGravity: Hmmmmmm I haven't counted how many frames exactly but... if I include the drawings I discarded (as in the ones I had to re-do): So far I've used almost 2 1/2 reams of paper. So... about 1250 drawings. And looking at the pile of discarded drawings... there's about 500? (my old drawings were really terrible.) But some of the drawings are... really really tiny figures. Like a dot on the page. I'll make it a point to count it when the project is finished. |

How I get the time? XD hehe... well, apart from a 5000 word paper (which i handed in about 2 weeks ago), it's the only thing I had to do for uni. The honours program doesn't have any subjects (we only have to do a major work project and an accompanying research paper) so... that's what was so good about it. =D I can just stay home like a hermit and animate all day. >.<
1250 isn't.. that much... XD (like I said, sometimes it's just a dot on the page haha....) yeah there'll be at least 500-1000 more drawings... And the running time is about 7 minutes. |

Wow... holy crap you're an amazing animator. I myself tried to do a little animation cause thats one of many things I want to do, but I never made anything as good as your animation. And with that background art made by your friend it will be even better. Can't wait to see the end result. Good luck!

It was pretty full on. The degree I did (Digital Media at College of Fine Arts) is 3 years full time (or 6 years part time) ... and we had to do subjects which involved other areas like film, traditional drawing, sound, multimedia, 3D, typography, lighting, compositing, even art theory... etc. It was only half way through second year that we got to choose electives. At first we'd have about 6 subjects per semester... then they cut it down to 4-5 subjects. (Each subject was worth 3 or 6 units and we'd do a minimum of 18 units per semester - the most units I did was 30 - I think? - in a sem.) In the final year we have to do a major work (which is also part of one of the subjects per semester.) This was my major work plus we had to make a package for it. Then what I'm doing this year (honours) was optional (but you need a high enough overall mark to qualify). |

Airing in Japan?? :O I wish! haha. Nah, it's an animated short... and a student project. I'm going to submit it to film festivals around the world tho. =) Hopefully it'll get into at least one. |

Hmm... I think Japan would be quite competitive.
I'm planning on going to America and hopefully eventually work on more productions like Avatar the Last Airbender. =) See, anime is already really developed in Japan but Western animation has heaps potential to grow since a lot of it is still targetted to a young audience. If someone started making animated films or series for older audiences (besides tv satires) - films like Miyazaki's that is - then there'd be a big potential for a new market. 3D animation is really dominant in the West but there's a lot of people who want to bring 2D back. I think with really good stories and new fancy techniques (or hybrid ones borrowed from Japanese anime) we could. =D |
