The whole Hana affair has made me realize something quite disturbing: crazy girls are really, really popular. She's universally loved among the fans of this manga, including this shameful me (animesuki is really quiet, and skewed towards the LN demographic...at other places this manga is among the top in popularity with tons and tons of commentary).

You hear all the horrible ex-girlfriend stories guys tell over beer and tears, the jealousy, crazy irrationality, threats to their mushrooms, you think why would you ever get yourself into that. Well, why wouldn't you get into Hana? Isn't she just positively irresistible!?

I didn't realize it was that popular D0=. Perhaps it is because crazy girls are beyond what a normal person can get into, thus, becoming a fantasy. Well, its easy to get in, but to get out...lol. Still, I'm right with you bro. Love me some Hana =03.

Most manga aggregator sites have it way up on the same "popular" list that shows the likes of Naruto (if they have it) or The World God Only Knows. These lists are generally the most accessible indicators of what's popular among the English-language manga reading community.

In Japan itself, it's selling like crazy and won the prestigious Kodansha Award in 2013 in one of the biggest categories. The mangaka has always been excellent, but this is his breakthrough work. Like TWGOK's author, he seems like a highly cosmopolitan, well-read dude (Darwin! Abenomics! Taxi Driver! classy references for an ecchi manga), so good for him.

P.S. I've got two tickets to Hana paradise.
