When does CE start?

As those of us who bother to check the UC chronology will know, various fan-writers, including but not limited to Dafydd Neal Dyar of the "MSG: High Frontier" site, believe that, based on the facts like the newspaper in Gundam 0080 episode 13 with the Monday 14 Jan 0080 date and Axis' self-proclamation to be Neo Zeon on 29 Feb 0088, UC 0001 takes place in 2081 AD.

But that is not what we are after here, and please, as focused gentlemen and ladies, refrain from discussing this matter.

What we are after is another matter. The Cosmic Era. We do know, if GundamOfficial is to be believed, that the AD calendar ended with the Reconstruction War and the emergence of the Type S Influenza. The CE calendar was set as having started when nuclear weapons were used at Kashmir.

However, we have yet to see any concrete day-date correlations which could possibly help us confirm which AD-system year CE 01 would correspond to.

With that in mind, what could the possibilities be? Discuss...

Well, pretty damn recent, considering MIT is still regarded as a VERY good school, American football is still popular, Oceania--errr, I mean the Atlantic Federation is arguably the most powerful EA faction (still a complete pushover for the Freedom Gundam), so I'd say 2100 as a rough estimate.

I think the actual date could be somewhere in 2200. I don't see most of the world's nations jelling like they have when the CE apparently started. And they probably won't have enough space/robotic programs infrastructure within 100 years. Maybe in 200 years they may.

Well, if you look at the government structure, then it very well could have been...

1984.

And if you don't understand that one...go to your local library and ask about George Orwell...

NOW.

I'd place CE 1 in 2050 as that is the year oil will run out and the world will have to shift to other power, in CE it happens to be fission

Well actually isn't Anno Domini (AD) considered a part of the Common Era which we are in right now? I may be wrong but I guess Fukuda or whomever forgot about that.

Anno Domini is Common Era. Cosmic Era is a different matter.

Really? I've heard that the petroleum production will be over in a decade or two. Also, according to an article from Caltech (California Institute of Technology), the research and achievement for thermal nuclear fission is at least 25 years away. So...let's to some math.

Current year+estimated years to achieve nuclear fission technology+major/minor setbacks to complete research (i.e. a research company loses fund (highly unlikely), another World War, etc), estimated time for petroleum to run out=the first year of Cosmic Era.

Okay so, in numbers...

2005/2006+25 to 35+1 to 10+20=2052 to 2071

Estimated time to change calendar are at AD 2052-2071.

Does this seem right? Please reply!

I think you're confusing fission with fusion, since nuclear fission has been used for some odd 60 years now :P.

UC started in 2045 IIRC, maybe they used the same year for CE?

Well, we do know that CE calendar started several years after the Earth's petroleum supply ran out. So, assuming the Earth's petroleum supply ran out sometime in the mid 21 century and add on several years after that, I would guess the CE timeline started sometime around the mid 2050's to early 2060's.

Wait wait wait... Was 2045 not the year where they started constructing the space colonies in UC?

Then again, that is not what we are after here, so... Yeah. Let us leave it be and get back on topic.

No way I remember seeing something that suggested it was like 2345...which is much more realistic than anything close to our time frame....I totally remember seeing that year somewhere connected with C.E. I don't know...I hope that isn't Correct Century i just said :|
