This was not that great of an episode. It's more of a filler showing the new characters and how all the ladies are having some care free fun around the palace. It was quite funny how Hakuoro was taking running away from important work when Benawi wasn't around.
The best scene has to be where Kamyu was trying to hide from Mukuru and how Mukuru just smacked that straw box Kamyu was hiding in. That to of hurt being throwing across the room with one tiger swipe. Interesting things I've seen in the episode so far: - It seems like the winged race knows some magic. - Kamyu is quite...strong to be able to hog tie Munto up like that.

A very nice, relaxing episode. You really do need these types of episodes to take a breather, and I felt this episode was great! It showed the transition to a new emperor and a new kingdom, with a lot of fun moments.
Hakuoro's comment in the end about how he wishes for this peace to last forever is pretty much foreshadowing that it won't last. Also, the end with Kamyu's comments of "see you again" and then fading off is kind of eerie in a way. It is as if the next time they will meet will be in tragedy. It's also interesting how Oboro and Kurou are requesting to expand the country's military right now, at a time of peace, although, I am sure by midway through the series, Hakuoro's closest people can probably defeat an army. I think it would be awesome if the Onkami allied with Hakuoro and have magic as well as air support; although, from what I've seen so far, they look like they are neutral beings. Also, poor Eruruu.... being called a "sister"?!?! I am sure she is so crushed right now, and there is no one she can talk about it with either, considering everyone returned to the village. Kamyu is really like a kid. I wonder how old she is? Also, right now, I really don't know what is Yuzuha's purpose being on the show? She is sickly, doesn't interact much, doesn't appear to have any special powers, and doesn't appear to be in the running for Hakuoro. She doesn't provide comfort or support. I hope they do expand on her a little, since right now, Kamyu made more of an impact in one episode than Yuzuha did in all the previous episodes.

Anyway, I gave this episode an 8. It was a nice transition from the last arc. It does a nice job of properly introducing some new characters, and was funny as well. We see Hakuoro, while being a fair ruler, is also a bit of a slacker at administrative duties, leaving mounds of paperwork awaiting his approval while he's out to look at the moon over a nearby lake or trying to feed Mukuru. Well, at least he does it eventually... Also, isn't this the first time in the anime that we get to see Aruruu's fondness for honeycomb?

Episode 8 was cute and funny, I liked it a lot, I want to be hugged by Urutorii and Kamyu too.
Preview of the next episode showed that there will be war again, which indeed makes Hakuoro's wish that these days could stay forever even more sad. I'm sure even he realised that it is not possible. |

This was filler. I won't disagree with that. And I can't think of a reason why it was necessary either. Yet, I still highly enjoyed it.
I suppose the only really bad thing about this episode is that it momentarily breaks up the pacing, which has been superb to date. The story so far has continually to carry a very smooth and natural momentum about it; and I've never seen a visual novel to anime conversion do it anywhere near as well as here. Hell, as I've said on other anime, most visual novel to anime conversions can be criticized of being disjoined. My theory is that Utawarerumono's story is fairly linear and, in a sense, simple, so it doesn't get caught up in unnecessarily over-the-top complexity that can potentially bog down the coherence of its story. With that said, a complex story shouldn't always lead to poor storytelling... but geez, someone needs to tell that to whoever's in charge of a lot of other visual novel to anime conversions. (I'm still pissed off at Fate/Stay Night, for those that can't tell). Anyway, I digress. Never mind that this was filler, it was enjoyable nonetheless. I still have questions about Hakuoro's role as emperor. He doesn't appear to be cut out for the hectic life of leading a nation, and it wouldn't surprise me if he abdicated in the near future (or, at the very least, if the issue were brought up). I had to laugh at loli-fanservice... purely because I just didn't know how else to react. I think I'll just chalk that one up to pedo-pandering and move on as quickly as I can. Poor Eruru... she's looked upon by Hakuoro as a sister. I think this particular plot point could digress into an equilibrium and disappear onto the backburner for a number of episodes to come. I'm not sure what I think of it, but given it won't be the focus of the story, I'm sure it'll be used as a dramatic plot device later down the track. Quote:

Edit: Oh yeah, and before I forget... Holy crap the women of that winged race are stacked. I don't doubt they have high value of physicians, because I'd imagine their women get all sorts of back pains.

Well well.. thats a perfect episode.
Kamyu really is just the cutest thing ever.. well apart from Aruruu, but them to together, its just cuteness over-load. <3 Nexted episode looks like it back to the fights, looks a lil' bit depressing? Anyway.. Yuuuuuuuuzuuuuuuuuhaaaaaaaaaa~

actually i'm kind of glad the feelings b/w hakuoro and eruruu are one-sided. hakuoro seems much older than eruruu and i dont really like hakuoro due to his monotone-ness. those characters bore me and i dont really want to see him together with anybody ... just a lonely hermit and that'll be fine >.>
i noticed in the OP that during the "war scene" all of the characters seemd to be fighting enemies with red armor. does that mean that the girl with the giant fan and the samurai trenchcoat (girl?) will be on hakuoro's side? and when do these characters appear in the game? |

Well, I did not see this episode as a filler..., to me this was an episode of transition; after the way we had the conclusion in the previous episode regarding the introduction and development of the first characters and the first arc, an episode of transition to the next arc was required.
An given this, the introduction of important characters for the up-comming episodes was also required. It was a enjoyable, calm and serene episode in the end, much like many have mencioned. But never the less I saw important things in it which might emphasise larger development later on in the series. Things these which I can state out as Eruruu only beeing seen by Hakuoro as 'a sister' , when she does in fact love him. This dis-regard.., well.., maybe its a harsh word.., better yet let's say.., the fact that he is un-aware of these feelings she has towards him, might lead to a very tragic development on behalf of Eruruu.., if it hasn't already. We could clearly see that she was broken-hearted when he refered to her as such.., not to mencione she still has not been able to let go of her grandmother's death.., thus making her compleatly alone. When Hakuoro chose the path for war.., It seems he was aware of most of the consequences..., altough I am more and more sure he has over-looked those of those who love him.. Thus slowly beeing consumed by war and related affairs.., it probably will be too short of too late when he realises what he could have chosen instead; Even though he acknologes himself that he wished peacefull times could last.., he knows that from the moment the gear started to work.., it could not be stopped, sort of speak. I belive all this we have seen regarding these aspects in this and in the previous episodes are seeds for a much larger turn in development in the future.., they are little seeds yes, but given time.., they will surely produce something extreamly important. Another small 'seed' I belive I saw in this episode was regarding Kamyu.., clearly much like everyone has said.., she acts like a kid, only searching to have fun here and there with a little devious personality; but all of this just suports my theory that she surely is not related to the Onkami, this despite Urutorii having called her sister... It seems clear to me that they are in fact not related, in fact we see her taking lessons from Munto as to how to learn to be more educated like everyone in the Onkami is.., something that Kamyu seems unable to follow.. I don't want to go into taking wild guesses here, because.., it is a bit soon for such aswell.., but clearly I belive that given all of this and of course.. the Black Wings.., Kamyu holds a much greater plot in the story then at first sight it seems. All and all it was a good episode, I realy enjoyed how Benawi got upset and said "again..." when he saw Hakuoro leaving his duty's, and all the scenes with Aru-chan Yuzu-chi and Kamyu where pleasent to watch aswell. So, I guess I will leave it with a 8. And for the next week.., a new arc begins, for as we saw..., there will be more battles and it appears another antagonist is making his debut in that episode aswell. |

well, i guess this episode is what happens after the war. funny how hakuoro escapes from his work and how benawi gets mad at him. oh! and the kamyu scenes are also funny too! especially the one when she hids herself in a box and mukuru sniffs her out of hiding

Personally, I don't really understand most of the changes the anime has made in regards to the game so far. I mean, I can understand why they'd skip through material, but why did they, for instance Spoiler:
