There's heavy speculation that Cartoon Network has rights to both series of Vandread and is planning to air it on Toonami.
The source? A moderator of the Adult Swim message boards over at AdultSwim.com Only problem is, many people don't trust the mod because he's the same one who said a few months ago that Home Movies on AS wasn't cancelled... and sure enough, soon afterwards it's last episode aired and no new episodes were ever ordered. Another reason to be doubtful - last I heard, Geneon was pretty pissed at Cartoon Network over the way Cartoon Network: a) put Lupin the 3rd at really nasty spots on Adult Swim and b) eventually cancelled it and thus it's said that Geneon doesn't want to deal with CN anymore. Don't know if it's true, but it makes sense - Geneon really wanted Lupin to be sumthin' big here in the US, and when it crashed on CN, they got angry and left. Why else do you think Heat Guy J went to MTV? Last edited by Suikun; 2004-05-12 at 12:36. |

My 2 yen (really cheap, by the way ) opinion.
The storyline was, to be honest, thin, and IMHO, didn't hit its stride till (possibly?) the middle of season 2 when it rushed to its conclusion. Art (drawn) was pretty good; the CG was somewhat silly looking but is still good Gonzo. Love the music score, though. "Love Hina" (or any other harem slapstick comedy anime that you can name really) meets "Lost in Space". |

Great series overall. It is lacking in the plot department, but the characters and animation are good. It's also quite ecchi but there's no actual nudity. It's licensed by Geneon (Pioneer at the time) for quite a while now. The dub isn't bad but I'd stick to the Japanese audio for this one. Oh yeah, Barnette is so friggin hot!!

I, like LynnieS, preferred the second season over the first season. This is because I felt the first season concentrated more on the "harem" concept more than it should have. There was also a LOT of unnecessary fan service, and almost nothing happened to the plot after it was over with.
The second season still used the whole harem idea for the first couple of episodes, but the last eight or nine episodes were really good. It was sort of like Da Capo. You get a bunch of harem crap in the beginning, but then it suddenly transforms into something interesting. |

I...really don't know what else I can add. Great graphics, thin plot, but for some strange reason I never got the feeling that the story was written around the CG (Star Wars, anyone?) I'll probably watch it again soon; and I found the dub to be actually really good (although the pilot sounds significantly more gay in English from what I remember).

I own both seasons on dvd and this is my favorite anime.
Although the plot maybe not as deep as those other animes (rahxephon etc), Vandread has a very interesting storyline that is pretty innovative. The animation in the 2nd stage is a lot better than the 1st stage and the plot is better in the 2nd season too. I cried in a couple of the episodes. |
