Just watched the first episode and liked it much more than I thought I would.
Oogami is a quite interesting character. Somehow he seems like a Japanese version of the Punisher, with magical powers. About Sakura confronting over two dozen thugs all by herself: was that incredible arrogance ("I can defeat them all by myself"), or just sheer stupidity? She even noticed that those were especially wicked people wdidn't bat an eyelid at murdering innocent people when she recognised their tatoos. She was really lucky that Oogami came just in time to save her, otherwise they would've most certainly killed her too (most likely even raped her before). About what Oogami what Oogami did to the dog: after noticing that it was too badly hurt and was going to die anyway, he just ended its suffering, which was actually quite humane. After that, Oogami did his job and took out the trash. He *did* offer them first to surrender and turn them in. They didn't want to, so they can't complain about what happened to them after that. One thing that bothered me about the English version is that they constantly misspelled Oogami's name. 大神 is generally romanised as "Oogami". There are a few other possible readings, but it *cannot* be read as "Ogami". Quote:

Not only the art, but the music is also very 90ish. It reminds me a lot of Guyver music.
Anyway, the second episode explains that is Sakura is fire resistant, or maybe she is resistant to their powers. Either way, Oogami really did try to kill her, even though she is not "evil" or "trash", so he is sort of a hypocrite. The dialogue and story does seem a little disjointed, but overall, the series is entertaining.

Ogami is hilarious. Been a while since a character made me laugh like this in an anime that isn't supposed to be a comedy.
And...that smile. Of course, the safe money is on Ogami becoming humanized, which is a total bummer, but I'm going to enjoy his hilarity while it lasts!

Okay, everything is very interesting so far. It makes me think of how the story will unfold and the character development of ogami rei itself. Damn, i'm already liking the guy. He is not some cliche wussy MC like what i've seen now a days, and i would assume that he is more like of a anti hero.

I wonder how incredibly moronic an entire class of students have to be to not see the difference between a girl clearly in distress and a girl who's just shy but I'm just biased due to my low tolerance for drama based on such flimsy misunderstandings. At least it was over before it began. I can't say I enjoyed the introduction of yet another freak of nature though.
The second half was much better though. I could definitely empathise with Sakura feeling so utterly creeped out by Ogami during their conversations, even if was a little ruined by that small and random moment. I guess the show is going to gloss over the whole seriousness of mock executions though which isn't much of a surprise. I can't say I mind that they're hinting at what might be Ogami's more redeemable features. If he can be redeemed then so be it and I won't begrudge him that (even if I do still really hate his stupid face). This show can definitely do the serious part well but I don't think the comedy goes with it all too well.

Sakura spared... looks like Rei is not just a killer.
She was pretty scared of him at school. Looks like that experience at the park really shook her up. Sakura just can't figure him out and it's making her angry. Her feelings toward him are mostly fear, anger and confusion. The rare specimen thing sounds promising.

I think it's a combination of both. He spared her because she wouldn't burn.
By the way, her being immune to the flames was something you could see coming from miles away. Her clothes are apparently immune as well. Her bag is not. |

I like Sakura. I'm too used to seeing "tough" female leads being all awesome until the moment they are threatened, and then they get taken out by some random trash thug. Sakura beat down those bastards until they zapped her. Headstrong and arrogant, sure, but she really is a badass.

On the other hand his flames are quite useful, he doesn't need to clean up the mess. Instead, if he had to kill her/someone in a normal way it would be an hassle for him. Anyways I liked the fact that he didn't spare her. Even if I don't like her immunity. So it's a draw.

After seeing this episode, I'm really happy to find out that she is spared BECAUSE he can't kill her, and not some mushy soft spot in my heart crap. One of my main bright spots of this series was having a MC who makes it clear he has no problem with being past the line of no return when it comes to morality. Him saving her "just cause its the right thing to do" would have messed that up imo, but its a lot better knowing he DID want to kill her and even tried to. Now we'll see how he learns to deal with her since she's pretty much gonna be stuck to him like glue.

Man, Ogami(yeah, I'm sticking to using 1 'O') really radiated some Light vibes in the latter half of the ep, when he was like "Do you want someone dead? Just tell me their names..." .
Once again, the comedy really had me going there with the class's misunderstanding. I don't think I'll ever get tired of that(at least not in its 13-ep cour).
