Two characters who didn't get nominated ( Ryuuko and Yoshino ) are poised to do better than a lot of those who actually got nominated.

I wouldn't read too much into the whole nomination distinction at this point.

With all the build-up Marui has at this point, I don't think its gonna be funny if in the end Marui only end up being comic relief. Now, what will this Aizen wannabe show us next week?

My guess for side B is that Hayama will get 2nd-3rd place under Souma. From the shock of not getting the first place he will resign from the competition's 2nd round allowing the 1st round 5th place to pass instead. We can't have the much touted curry master be outperformed by 4 other people, however he's too much of a new character (and not interesting beyond indian food) to let him progress beyond the 1st round, furthermore there's virtually no other way of having him elegantly lose.

I somehow have a feeling Erina won't be a re-occurring character like the rest usually are. She's more like that final boss/ top antagonist or rival kind of character, someone that the hero usually doesn't see much of until a major confrontation or at the end of a story arc. If this were a shounen battle/fighting manga (it kind of is in a way XD), she would be the "villain" of the story. It's because we're made to believe that her skill level is so high that it'll be a while until we'll see much of her, and when we do Soma is probably going to have a lot of experience and skill built up, enough to stand on equal terms with her, but I think for now he's not there yet. Maybe.

I think Soma is greater if not than equal in term skill of culinary compare to Erina, it just that he need the opportunity to show off and advance higher in status. For Soma beating Erina is easy, his goal is going after his father who is the true final boss.
