They are using CG for the characters, and that's exactly my problem with it. From the looks of it, they'll animate the scenes set in the real world "normally", whereas the scenes taking place in that other world will be almost entirely in CG.

I am biased against CG as I'm sure everyone has noticed but I can tolerate it and (gasp!) even like it as long as it's used sparingly and/or smartly. I love the use of CG in Last exile for example (at least for the most part). I'm fine with CG being used for objects, but characters? That's crossing the line for me. The character models seem okay here, but you can already see they're moving awkwardly (the scene showing BRS fighting that robot). The precedents when it comes to CGI characters in anime don't fill me with hope.

And those are the reasons I'm going to keep my expectations to a minimum from now on. I simply want to avoid being disappointed. If it turns out to be awesome, I'll be delighted to have been mistaken.

CG fights can be done well. I greatly enjoyed Haseo's introduction in the first .hack//GU game. He had very visible expressions. However, that is a game.

Most CG of humanoid characters in anime don't nearly come close to that. I'll still be watching this because it's BRS, but I do not have high expectations.

So it's an extension of the OVA great, more boring school drama scenes. Just wanted an all out action series out of Black Rock Shooter. The OVA was a waste of time other than the few action scenes. Now even the action scenes have been gimped with CGI in this version.

I was hoping for an 11-episodes adaption but I hope those 8 episodes will be longer in length than the normal ones.

But I find their designs weird. Except Black Gold Saw's design, the others look weird. And seriously, Dead Master with glasses?

I do not mind the school setting as long as the alternative world will be shown more and we get some answers. But at first I was hoping that the TV series would follow the manga storyline because it is somewhat more interesting.

Her new appearance feels kinda weird on me too, she felt a lot like Morrigan from Dark Stalkers the first time I saw her, now it's a bit...yeah.

agreed on the ova. Though for story Iam leaning more on the manga ver.

As for the redesign, well I think like I said it's probably for toy figure sales and other pvc scaled figures.
