We can see that after their first kill their tactics have improved, but not unrealistically so.

Yeah, it's just a really tough situation they are in here. Constantly having to worry about money, food, and even clothes. They don't really have the money for an indoor outfit or enough underwear so they can wear some while they clean their clothes. And while they'd like to improve skills or get better weapons, everything costs money and if they get into a rough patch they might need that to live off.

It is nice to see them improving bit by bit. They did show some improved skills in the shots of fighting we saw here. Not so much that I could see them wanting to fight a pack of goblins, but enough that they can fight one with some relative skill.

Even if the plot barely moved this week I still loved it a lot. I don't know if it's Hosoyan's beautiful voice and his monologues all over the episode, combined with the gorgeous art and me just really liking the characters and world setting in general that makes the show so enjoyable even if nothing really happens, but the episode ended in no time. Undoubtedly the most prominent candidate for AOTS for me so far.

If by “fun” you mean merciless, unnatural and heavy exposition (pun totally intended), many relentless and huge amount of boob-shots, ass-shots, crotch-shots and many other shameless fanservice antics each episode in a war setting where it should’ve been taken seriously coz many people die… then yeah, I’m glad this show doesn’t have and doesn’t aim for that kind of “fun” (at least so far).

Pretty nice, roughly one month there and they can already consistently kill goblins by ambushing them, thus earning a constant amount of very needed cash. Also them mapping the areas on the go like the good adventurers do, reminds me of Etrian Odyssey a bit.

I like Yume's personality, but I can't deal with Shihoru. I'm okay with people being shy, but she's a bit of a liability within the group. I hope she gets some development.

The plot twist can come any minute now, the pace doesn't need to be that slow for everyone to hnderdtand that they're the underdogs.

I rather suspect that this was development. Her reaction wasn't just shyness. Ranta's behavior left her terrified of even so much as speaking to the guys. It makes me think of someone suffering from abuse and/or rape trauma. We can't know, because she doesn't know, but I believe it would fit, and this seems like the sort of story that wouldn't pull any punches, even in a character's forgotten backstory.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised. At the very least the impact of Ranta's behavior was clear enough. Just the inability to say anything to even Haruhiro in their laundry area. And even after that with Manato.

You get bits of what might be their pasts. Manato's thought about himself that must stem from his subconscious understanding of his past self, but just not having the actual memories to tap into. Or even Moguzo's feelings about his cooking. They can all kind of draw out things about themselves.

So yeah, wouldn't be surprised if that touched on a kind of trauma for Shihoru. After all before that incident while she wasn't that talkative, she could talk. Had that conversation with Manato in episode 2.

There was a manga where lots of people - a city's worth of them - got amnesia. Regressed all the way back to infancy. They were gathered into random family units, and in one of them, everyone got along. Until they recovered their memories and realized one of them was a rapist, and another his victim...

The show can be a little too dragged at times (I think the insert song last episode went on for way too long) but I appreciate the slow pace overall. This is the probably my first time coming across a story that focuses on the deppressive effects of poverty in a fantasy setting and how a misfit ragtag group can be played for tension rather than comedy. I think it's done well to portray both convincingly and in a way one can relate to. Nice to see the group "level up" a bit this episode. No shortcuts with them suddenly becoming badasses overnight I guess.

That how I feel too. I though think dialogue is a bit on the weakside too overall, but I do appreciate how somewhat "raw" (for the lack of a better world) almost everything thing feels. This show definitely meant be something of a slowburner, with large focus of show being on the day-to-day of Haru and co. Because of that it's really not going to be something for everyone, but if you can get caught in the show's it's pretty pleasant imo.

This episode was nice as well, build is slow and that really can get you to love the characters.

They are getting stronger and better, I cannot wait to see them trying to take on bigger monsters and getting in touch with other groups.

This series looks like it could flourish from 24 episodes. Are they really getting only 1 season?

...Good for it? This series doesn't seem to be playing its amnesia that way. The kids still have unconscious knowledge of things they once consciously knew.
