Actually the wall is stupid to begin with.

They know that as the years go by the Kaiju are getting bigger and stronger so there's nothing guaranteeing that the Kaiju would be stopped by a wall.

The real issue which the scientists pointed out in the movie clips that we've seen is the portal which are allowing the Kaiju to come into Earth. The fact that we went from 3-4 to 15 in the last year means that it'll only get worse. The wall could/maybe stop one Kaiju but when you got hundreds of them coming at the wall nothing will stop that.

Take the Great Wall of China. The Mongols defeated China by just walking around it. Walls will always have weaknesses.

That and the Kaiju can fly so the walls are useless.

I'm pretty sure the heavy impetuous to build the wall probably really went up after the number of Kaiju attacks went down, but before they really spiked.

Maybe the portal isn't always on and only activates to let Kaijus out...or its coordinates keep changing after each incursion, thus preventing the military from both locating the dratted aperture and deploying the nuke(s) in time.

Or maybe the military did already try to chuck nukes at it, with no visible results (there's also a possibility that, just like in Sentou Yousei Yukikaze, the nukes have to be detonated at very specific locations [the so-called "power points"]...or in the kaiju homeworld instead of ours).

Yeah maybe the portal only opens to let Kaijus out and moves? Also would a nuke withstand the pressure?

buried the portal, provided it doesn't move, under a ton of rock.

Well this portal is specified to be located somewhere in an ocean crevasse. And we don't know exactly how big said crevaasse is. It's entirely possible that the crevasse is too big to nuke. Or dropping nukes on extra-dimensional portals doesn't close it.

In other news, most of the recent articles I've read have referenced Pacific Rim having a budget of 180 million, which is a bit lower than the 200 million estimate you often heard getting thrown around before. That's certainly hopeful in terms of helping the movie be financially successful. One reason that John Carter was such a disaster, was because of the movies bloated 250 million dollar budget. Shave 70 million off that budget, and it would have been in much better shape.

I heard that Del Toro finished the movie with budget and time to spare. Man is a miracle worker.

Yes, I'm fucking serious. You should watch the original Godzilla movie from 1954 and make sure it's the Japanese version. The Americans cut the Hiroshima talking in their version, it's a very dark movie with great actors in it like Takashi Shimura.

Akira Kurosawa always wanted to make a Godzilla movie actually.

You know what would be better?

They kept showing us that Cherno Alpha is going down in the trailer...

BUT GUESS WHAT,it remains standing after the fight, with heavy structural damage.

That would have been better!!!But the plot demands death,so....

Clever, because it could be that the portal is deeper than human technology can reach. Deep sea is many times more hostile than the vacuum of Space. It could well be that at the depth the portal was located, nukes simply get crushed before reaching the destination.
