She looks more or less the same. Detail differences. A definite hanger bay. Possible other hatches for secondary craft on the forward top. Also some detail changes between the secondary engines.

I can't see if she has point defense guns, which would be kind of silly if they left them out.

I can guess that the side twin AA guns on the bridge are still there, though difficult to see on this image.
There are hatches below the superstructure and on the bottom, which I suspect hidden AA gun mounts behind blast/armour doors. Also there are the weird holes at the base of the superstructure which were a mystery on the original design as well!

Maybe she has small missile racks for defense like modern warships.

Or she was designed for fleet combat and would always have escorts to deal with fighters and missiles. (or they are mostly hidden so they can't be blown off as easily.)

Most Gamilas warships don't seem to have obvious AA defenses.

Gamillas ships have small quad AA turrets which look like pop-up turrets, but they don't seem to use thme that often, or just we don't seen fighters attacking the modern Gamillas ships.

Or it was just faster to built on existing design while retooling for Wave Motion Gun equipped ships like Andromeda?

EDIT:
Ships appear to have been built during 2201 based on the old hull numbering system from way back.

If I had more information...and time, I could rework my concept of a Yamato 2202 version of the Battle of Saturn I'm going to run at a convention in September. I'm using a small group of Earth ships and Gamilas ships verses Comet Empire ships. All the Earth ships have wave motion shielding, but Yamato and Andromeda have superior shielding. I also threw in a back-teched Arizona as the American built space battleship. She's more on par with Yamato and Andromeda, like a cross between them.

I even found a source on Shapeways of a ship roughly in scale with the Star Blazers miniatures that resembles the old UNCF Murasame cruisers. The some person does something the resembles a Kongo, but is way too big to fit in. (would be over twice the size of Andromeda).

That is interesting but no info about a full bluray release, I wonder if they can not do it.

So Star Blazers 2199 is coming. Likely followed as closely as possible by Star Blazers 2202, more or less like the original dub came out at the end of the 1970s.

That is pretty quick. I wonder if the deal to make this is why Voyager stopped their own sales of Yamato 2199 after disc four over three years ago?

If you want a blu-ray release you can order the subtitled blu-rays of 2199 direct from Japan.

Shoji Nishizaki said that 2202 wasn't going to be subbed because they were negotiating a North American sales agreement... For new dubbed episodes of 2199 to be simulcast on a weekly basis, starting in four days, this deal was in the works for quite awhile, with NDA signed by all parties involved in the translations, ADR scripts, voice casting, and recording - and the approvals on all of these elements, step-by-step, by Voyager Entertainment.

So we will find out just what they decide to do in three days. The question is "where"?

Finished the dub now and it is much better than I thought and it the translation is almost word for word. Including Okita's message to Earth. The voice acting is better than I thought. The video says Star Blazers 2199 nowhere just Yamato 2199. Even at the preview for episode 2 okita just says space battleship yamato 2199. One thing I found weird is that Hijikata says Gamilas not Garmilas.

The spelling and pronunciation can always differ. Look at Gundam Seed for some really good examples. The official "spelling" Garmilas.

But on the 1st 2 Yamato blurays it says Gamilas. I never understood the change to begin with.
