William Gibson predicted 2d marriage in 1996 SF novel
Recently otaku created a petition demanding the right to marry 2d characters (http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2008/1...-2d-characters).
Whether you think it's laughable or a great idea, it's certainly an interesting proposal. That could lead to a whole discussion by itself. The really funny part is, I just started reading the SF book "Idoru" by William Gibson...and one of it's major plot points is a Japanese man marrying a fictional, virtual reality idol-character, and the various controversies this raises. This book was written in...1996. They say that "life imitates art," but when life begins to imitate CYBERPUNK novels, we know we're in for interesting times. Four more years and Tokyo begins to be like in Ghost in the Shell? The female robots coming from Japan do seem to be getting more and more lifelike. I wonder what other SF novels and anime will be vindicated next? |

I can follow the concept of marrying an A.I. ... a companion that you can actually interact with, play games with, watch entertainment with, etc etc. as the tech progresses. (visualizes the first A.I. that decides it wants a divorce ).
However, I'm more thinking medication for someone wanting to marry a drawing or a picture with not even a pretend sense of self. Marriage is a "civil instrument of legal entanglement" as much of a "mutual declaration of love and commitment" (lets work on that mutual thing....)

Actually, philosopher Scott Adams noted that humanity will be doomed seconds after the first holodeck is successfully powered up.

Well only the 1/3 who aren't starving, struggling just to have a home, provide their family with food or get an education or live in areas ravaged by poverty or war.
(You know, the other continents in the world, where humans live in countries that don't have the time, money or luxury to even begin to imagine things like this, let alone pour resources into researching and creating this kind of technology) The more we have, the more we're not sastified, the more we're not sastified, the more we overlook the simple things in life and start going kinda crazy and finding alternatives such as this Ah well, all i can say is: Hurray to filtering out the men who want and can handle a real lady?

It certainly takes care of certain categories of men unable to "relate to women" who don't follow a script. I read one article (can't remember where) that a designer spoke of using AI and these robotics tools to rescue these sorts by quietly and subtly power-leveling their social skills.
Seriously, they should have never locked up the tigers....

We got something like 10% own 90% of the worlds wealth? I doubt people would be able to afford such a luxury (and it is a luxury) cause you know... having sex and relationships with other humans tends to be free. (Or a lot less cheaper) Quote:
You mean like candy girls? (This is just the wiki link, so SFW as well as Danny Choo's review The other links however, view at your own risk.) They got the everything covered except the electromotive forces and an actual AI system built within, but I'm merely waiting for the day when they add those For now, it's just a lifesize "human" replica and tbh the first time i saw this with clothes on, i was fooled x.x Edit: For post below: Let's just say I wasn't shown danny's review when i was fooled...
