Well I thought it's pretty clear that I meant F-B's version since Lythka stated his/her (?) affiliation to the group ^^ @DeathWolf: 5 groups for Ergo Proxy? It's licensed O.o |

@Rion: yes but licensed isnt a boundary for much of the new subbing generation
also ergo proxy has at least 4 groups planning it that i know of i assumed one that i wont know of which leads to 5 if it didnt get subbed i would gladly one man fansub it but since theres so many people on it, who cares^^ |

The fansub community has always been a confederation of interdependent groups... It will continue to be that way. No decision that affects the entire community should ever come from a arbitrary decision made by a few veterans (#fansubbers). The only exception is an emergency like an IRC server exodus.
I've been in the fansub community since December 2002, I know how things work.

FWIW, back in the VHS days, you had all kinds of crazy things going on with TAFML (The Anime Fansubbers' Mailing List) and #fansubs on EFNet, etc. But yeah, similar things happening now. The more things change and all. |

For the fans, it's files that they can play with a minimum of fuss, and files that are compatible with the broadest range of hardware. For the show, arguably it's at an encoding 'quality' that's enjoyable, while not putting professional/retail releases to shame. Ultimately we're trying to build a fanbase for these shows to sell, right? People will make the argument 'we want to do the best job we can', and while that's a great goal, and a good work ethic, I'd submit that in some cases, 'best' is not best |

I work for a fansubber. So I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.
Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about. But trust me.... You don't. I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you don't know what you are talking about. This is how bad info gets passed around. If you don't know about the topic....Don't make yourself sound like you do. Because some readers believe anything they hear. |
