Love how so many things tied together. Too bad brain didn't seem like a very important enemy during the time of his demise.

But we have first the bad guy Gerard, who ended up being used by Ulterar, then Ultear was being used by brain. Wonder if they will tie brain into being used by someone else.

Grey vs Ultear!
She really did a number on him at first.
The flashbacks were really interesting.
No wonder she became the way she is.
Nice episode.

Makes sense now why Ul was willing to use something as dangerous as Iced Shell to stop Deliora. She'd already lost her daughter (as far as she knew) and wasn't able to do anything for Ultear. So that time she'd make sure to save those that mattered to her and seal away Gray's darkness.

Wow. This episode was awesomeeeee, Gray did the right way to end the fight! Jump together in the water, leading to Ul's memories.. Which nearly made me cry =p, this episode was one of the emotional episode ever!

Knew that Ul would never ditch her daughter =3

Fantastic episode. However it was a bit rushed and I think the azuma vs erza fight was better. Still, it was an awesome fight, very emotional as well.

Who'd thought Gray would pull this off! Nice episode, of course Azuma and Erza fight was best in this ark so far though.

I have some good news!

There's this Japanese blog site (shown here) that keeps track of various anime and manga, including Fairy Tail. And the blogger was invited to attend a special "talk event" where she (I'm certain it's a girl) got to ask a few questions of her choosing. One of them was whether or not the anime would continue after April. And, lo and behold, it will!

However, because my knowledge of Japanese is very limited, that's all I can make out for certain. There is an excerpt from the blog which I believe confirms the existence of an original filler arc that will have some input from Hiro Mashima, but I don't know if that's speculation or fact. Another thing I noticed was that apparently the anime will include new scenarios for two already-existing characters: one will be for the Earthland counterpart of Coco, the assistant chief of staff in Edolas, and another for Kinana, a Fairy Tail employee who was originally transformed as Cobra's pet snake.

In case I misread something, here is the excerpt:

This was one of the most rushed FT episodes so far. I haven't read the manga but the episode didn't have the 'feeling' to it. Worst battle of the the 7 kin of purgatory.

So you paid attention more to the fight than the more prevalent flashback of Ultear's, which was far more expanded from the manga while the battle itself was about the same? If so, no wonder you didn't enjoy it.

There was no new colour to the Ultear vs Gray fight if they continued anyway. Ultear would still have the upper hand, and keep sending the ice to the future. Nothing more than replaying the beginning fight scene over and over again, tbh.

The flashback was effective, I don't like too many flashbacks myself, but it's use got the general idea of why she hated Ul, and what actually happened. I mean, through less than half episode of flashback we were able to see how Ultear's darkness began to grow and develop.

I don't understand Ultear's fighting style anyway...

She can manipulate the time of objects, so she uses it to fling crystal balls around?!

That doesn't seem like a particularly effective use of her powers. Why doesn't she turn the time of the earth backwards so that the ground turns to lava?
Why doesn't she turn the time of her opponents clothes forward so they disintegrate? (mainly if she was fighting lucy ).
What about carrying around some kind of small very slightly radioactive pellets that she can accelerate the time of and cause a chain-reaction critical mini-nuclear explosion at will?!

See, that's how you use time ark, damn it.

It's probably easier to spawn some orbs instead of changing the planet Well, she did well by disabling Gray's ice, and she's a capable fighter, no need for cheap tricks when she can lock Gray's head between them thighs...

Well it only takes a few seconds for an orb to fly around.
It shouldn't take too long to melt ice in such hot temperatures either.

It depends whether the differing length of time is a factor or not, but if it is, lava, disintegration and high radioactivity should be centuries ago/later.

She already demonstrated that she can make entire ruins collapse and rock crumble back in the Galuna Island arc, and stone doesn't just crumble in seconds, it takes decades.

And clothes in Fairy Tail disintegrate in a matter of days even under normal circumstances (except Natsu's scarf)

Um...what's the use of FFing Gray's clothes, of all people? He fights half-naked anyway...

The lava thing can work only if they were on a volcanic island to begin with...and as for the radioactive pellet idea....

While it is possible that she can reduce a mountain to dust...the amount of magic power needed might be too much.

Either way, she totally outclassed him. He sucker-punched her to start with and he surprised her with the blood-infused ice, but otherwise he didn't stand a chance. Gray beat her because she lost the will to fight.

^ Of course. She was better then him and only way he won is because she was emotionally distracted. Don't get me wrong, the blood freezing moment was great idea for Gray and one should give him credit for that. It was a good fight, although the move that Gray did to ensure victory towards the end felt like a forced cheap-ass thing with only purpose that Gray has +1 on his winning score. They could have both stopped and part their ways. But that's shonen for you. You can't prove a point until you beat your opponent. -_-'

I saw a bit of English dub of this anime. Man, I could never get used to it. It's funny how Mystogan sounds the same even when his mouth is covered by clothing, unlike in a original. Voice work is a serious business in Japan indeed. ^^

What dub are you talking about, the Funimation dub or the Animax dub? Because I can sense some subtle muffling in the Funimation dub. And if you didn't know who Mystogan really was, you couldn't quite so easily tell who before the reveal.

For the time ark thing, maybe they have this equivalent energy exchange... in our world, law of energy conservation.

Lava (energy so great to melt things) loses its energy before turning into igneous rocks.
Radiation is even more energy, and additionally requires particles ... and I'm not sure about creating radiation in your magical control range

So Ultear might need to invest a lot of magical energy. I mean, Natsu can barely create lava himself.

So I guess it is safe to assume that Ultear will no longer be an enemy, and she could possibly be an ally from this point forward. I guess this increases Meldy's chances to become a Fairy Tail member.

They already converted Capricorn. Meldy should be next and both members of Grimoire Hearts that I wanted to join will join.
