Any sales figures on the anime? Well, it's impressive that they can pull off 1 million, but that's the light novels. The sales of the anime might as well be a better benchmark on the possibilities of a second season.

EDIT: Ah, might as well.

I know I have been using one series as a yardstick for everything else, but what's the figures on Toaru and how does HnA compare to it?

big difference. HnA only nears 1000 per volume while Toaru stays around 3000 - 4000 average range per volume

EDIT: Index anime has already big franchise. Have pity on the new one. It's doing great on it's own but not that great <.<

Well, it does give me a mental scale to weigh everything. I use Toaru-metrics to measure novel performance out of preference.

For a better comparison, you have to use a series that's A) Have the same number of volumes and B) Doesn't have an Anime yet or at least use the numbers before the anime was adapted.... But good luck finding that out >.>

IMO Zombie might be a better yardstick.

zombie season 1 anime was announced the same time as HnA so that's a better comparison. Though I thought last year that Hna will be for fall but Index S2 was fall. Then wish for a winter season but IS took that place. It's been pushed far away from when it's been announced that it's having an anime.

Base on wiki and baka-tsuki, these books have roughly the same number as Aria and are all 1 cour series.

Seitokai - 9 books
Kore wa Zombie - 7 books
Dragon Crisis - 11 books
Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu - 12 books
Ookami-san - 12 books (finish)
Denpa Onna - 8 books (finish)

Bakemonogatari - 12 books
BakaTest - 12 books
OreImo - 8 books
IS - 7 books

denpa onna is only 8 books and it's already finished? and also ookami-san? but how many volumes was animated in ookami-san? is ookami another JC staff work? I'm not sure because I'm not that fond of that anime. It's fun and all but not my favorite so I don't remember much about it.

Aria will be stopping at vol 3 though I wish they won't make a cliffhanger at the end if they won't be planning doing a 2nd season.

Yeah, Denpa Onna finished before the Anime started while Ookami-san, yes a JC staff production, only finished just recently early this year... Hmm, looks like the wiki page still has it as ongoing... Makes you wonder how many of these have actually ended already...

It can't be helped, the very nature of the light novel has it ending every volume as a cliffhanger.

I would hope for a second season for the sole reason of seeing Volume 5 animated.

The success of the light novel series should be enough reason for why there should be another season. The light novel series is quite a big hit based on how many copies per volume were sold on average.
I found the number of copies sold for several series. The number of volumes (including side stories) is the number released between the date of the first novel’s release and the date the information was obtained. I included the date of the first novel’s release and the date the information was obtained just in case.

Hidan no Aria
1.9 million 9 vol 210,000 per vol Aug 08 – Apr 11
2.4 million 9 vol 270,000 per vol Aug 08 – May 11

Haruhi 8.0 million 9 vol 890,000 per vol Jun 03 – Apr 11
Index 11.3 million 25 vol 450,000 per vol Apr 04 – May 11
Durarara 3.2 million 8 vol 400,000 per vol Apr 04 – Feb 11
Ore no Imouto 2.3 million 6 vol 380,000 per vol Aug 08 – Nov 10
Baka to Test 4.3 million 12 vol 360,000 per vol Jan 07 – Feb 11
Shana 8.0 million 23 vol 350,000 per vol Nov 02 – Nov 10
Toradora 3.2 million 12 vol 270,000 per vol Mar 06 – Apr 09
Denpa Onna 1.5 million 7 vol 210,000 per vol Jan 09 – Apr 11
Kore wa Zombie 1.2 million 6 vol 200,000 per vol Jan 09 – Jan 11
Zero no Tsukaima 4.5 million 22 vol 200,000 per vol Jun 04 – Feb 11

The number copies per volume sold for Hidan no Aria is actually quite big and probably will increase a lot more. The number is even larger than the one for Kore wa Zombie Desuka and recently another season of Zombie was just announced only 2 months after the first season finished airing. So, it’s possible we will receive news of another season of Aria soon as well.

how about the dvd/bluray sales of aria and korewazombie?

JC staff doesn't care about how good the sales of the novels. They care for their own sales.

Haruhi really have a monster kind of sales. But still not enough some of the old timer light novel that has 10 volumes but reach 10 + million sales. I remember it in index light novel thread.

I guess DVD/Blu ray sales is an important factor as well.

From the information in my previous post, we can assume that Hidan no Aria is potentially a bigger hit than Kore wa Zombie Desuka and Zero no Tsukaima. From the information in this thread, Kore wa Zombie Desuka’s first two DVD/Blu ray together sold 3,000+ per vol and Zero no Tsukaima second season sold 5,000+ per vol on average.

These ended up getting another season, so if the sales for Hidan no Aria can reach 5,000 we have a very good chance of getting another season. Even better if it can sell as much as first seasons of Shana and Index, which sold over 10,000 per vol. We’ll just have to see when Hidan no Aria’s first couple of volumes are released.

If we want another season, it would be helpful if many of us buy the DVD/Blu ray at stores or order on internet.

I hope that they do not push through, honestly.
Hidan no Aria is one of those projects of J.C. Staff which makes you wonder if they really are good at adopting other forms of media into an anime series.

If you can find the current amazon preorder numbers for Aria, you'll more of less get an idea of how successful this series is going to be.

...Well, not many people are kinda eager to get BD/DvD without subtitles...

As for Hidan no Aria selling 1.9 million copies, rubbish if you go by Oricon's figures. The last time any Hidan no Aria novel charted on the light novels Oricon chart was this week.

http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=296276

11, *8,077 *,121,691 Hidan no Aria vol.1
12, *7,888 *,148,743 IS: Infinite Stratos vol.7
13, *7,690 *,103,314 Hidan no Aria vol.2
14, *7,234 *,*35,030 Banno Kanteishi Q no Zikenbo vol.9
15, *7,232 *,101,261 Hidan no Aria vol.3
16, *6,571 *,*93,722 Hidan no Aria vol.4
17, *6,343 *,*79,218 Hidan no Aria vol.9
18, *6,064 *,*87,775 Hidan no Aria vol.5

1.9 million must be the amount of copies shipped not sold, also the perfect series to compare it to is Infinite Stratos, not only is it the same MF Junko X TBS timslot but they were around the same popularity prior to the anime. Anyway the novels haven't received the massive bump the Stratos novels had, and the anime is going to be nowhere near IS sales.

I want to see vol 2 of AA. It's pretty bad ass side story. Just like how Touma is bad ass in railgun story.
