Looking for an anime with a good story.

Ok I am looking for an anime with a good story line. Don't really care about the genre (just no hentai or yoai), but would prefer something that isn't so sweet that it rots my teeth, if you know what i mean. Also I like a don't mind fighting animes, as long as they aren't fighting for the sake of fighting (didn't like Air Master that much)

*added in edit*
I guess most of the animes that i like can be split into about 2 groups.
A) Always keeps me guessing, never know what is going to happen (Monster for example)
B) Action series with comedy everyone in a while.

Some animes I liked

Monster
Bleach
Rorouni Kenshin
Hellsing

A few more animes i liked:
Inuyasha (it was ok but it got alittle long)
Trigun
Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (Really enjoyed it)
Full Metal Alchimist
Chobits(i have a few eps but i didn't get it all)
Gundam 08

Mai hime
Escaflowne
Lunar legend
Texhonalyze

You can get all your info for the plot, on www.animenewsnetwork.com

by the way i would not really say long shows such as kenshin, bleach, naruto, or inuyasha to have a good story, since they focus on one goal, and then the side stories as the obstacles, except monster i guess. The best type of shows to get in my opinion is 13 episode shows, for stories.

Are you sure Aishiteruze Baby is not extra sweet? It's one of the sweetest anime I've ever seen, I don't think he'll want to see that.
But Trigun is a nice suggestion, don't be fooled by the first episodes, Trigun is NOT a comedy, it gets heavy as the series progress.
You can also watch
Trinity Blood
Full Metal Panic : The Second Raid
And if you DON'T have suicidal tendencies, be sure to watch Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, it's a... well... people call it realistic love story, I call it monument of human stupidity.
And if you're into RPGs and stuff, you could also try Ragnarok The Animation, the adventures of a party of failures.

I find that Trinity Blood, Scrapped Princess, and Last Exile, all sort of fit in the same boat. As in, if you liked one of them, you'll probably like at least one of the others. I enjoyed all three.

For a good, complex story with excellent character development, try Juuni Kokuki. (a.k.a. The Twelve Kingdoms/Juuni Kokki) Its basic themes are: fantasy, drama, action. There's lots of friendship and self-growth in it. The concept isn't exactly original (girl gets transported to strange fantasy world) but in terms of value and enjoyment, it's one of the best in its genre. Don't be putt of by the first few episodes, though -- it gets better and better each arc. It becomes pretty complicated as the series progresses, (there's lots of new terminology you may have to pick up on) so it may be confusing for some. But, if you ever get the chance, don't miss out on this one.

One of these things is not like the others,
One of these things just doesn't belong,
Can you tell which thing is not like the others
By the time I finish my song?
Did you guess which thing was not like the others?
Did you guess which thing just doesn't belong?
If you guessed this one is not like the others,
Then you're absolutely...right!

In truth, there are so many good ones, and bad ones, that its hard to remember them without you being more detailed in what you want to see.

(I agree that trigun was excellent but what the hell is up with 'lets just toss the ending in with the credits'?)

Madlax - an intriguing story with many twists and overall surreal feeling. The pacing of the plot is somewhat slow, though, so be warned. Great music.
