Spice and Wolf (2nd Season), Expectations and Speculation

So it appears that July 9th is the day.

This year should be a great one for S&W fans. Second season and the liscense of the novels and anime. The first season on the official funimation site is listed as coming December 2009.

That pic very much intrigues me. I have yet to read vol. 3 so I too would like some confirmation of whether such a scene happens in the novel.

Yeah I watched the trailer and that part freaked me out. I was like "what the hell!?!" I haven't read volume 3 yet, so I have no idea of what's to come. I really do hope that's just Lawrence's mind going crazy.

Horo looks as though she has more wit and sagacity while teasing Lawrence, don't know how to explain it properly, but she kinda looks more Horo-ish in my oppinion..

i heard season 2 covers the 3rd and the 5th volume, why not the 4th? well i am kinda glad though^^. I couldnt read volume 5 yet (cant read japanese), considering how far lawrence and horo went in the ova, something akin to a confession could be possible in the second season couldnt it? ( if its true that the ova took place after lawrence made the gold deal with nora)

although i read the 3rd volume on BT i forgot a few details, so i dont know if this "almost kiss" between horo and amati happened or not, could someone who remembers message me and tell me?

But i doubt that horo would do something like that^^

I think that it was not announced officially that Vol.4 is skipped.
However, the cast announced is only from Vol.3 and Vol.5.
In order to cover Vol.3, Vol.4, and Vol.5, I think that 12 episode is insufficient.
So, many people are guessing that Vol.4 is skipped.
If considered in development of a story, Vol.4 cannot be inserted after Vol.5.
Therefore, Vol.4 will not be broadcast by TV, unless a director changes a story.

I am secretly afraid.
A selling agency will take the measure for selling both of DVDs and Blu-rays for business.
If Vol.4 is contained in each volume as a privilege of the second season's DVD, and if Blu-ray is released only by a box set, I have to buy both again.

Well, I truly hope that, this time, they'll just release the Blu-Rays alongside the DVDs to start with. I can sort of understand that, back when Spice & Wolf was first coming out, that wasn't a very popular way of doing things, but it's rapidly becoming the norm nowadays. So yeah, here's to hoping. If they do decide not to do both at once, they'll have to do something spectacular to get me to buy the DVDs this time...

It would be a bit odd though if season 2 covered ONLY volumes 3 and 5, considering that Vol. 5 is inconclusive, beginning an arc in the storyline that continues for several volumes after it, unless they have a 3rd season planned as well....I just don't see them ending the anime series with a cliffhanger...

A very good question... The most common scenario is always for a 1-cour show to be followed by another 1-cour show. Other than Aria, I'm really struggling to think of examples where a show's sequel is longer than the original. And the other thing is that another DS game is scheduled for release in September, and these tie-in games tend to be released near the end of a show's run. So I think it's safer to bet 1-cour, but we probably won't know for sure until a few more weeks when they start soliciting discs.

Well.. you can probably assume the groups that subbed the special episode zero will probably take it up. Most of them are the ones who did the last season. Its easy enough to look up their websites (the ones who have one anyway), they often have their own blogs and forums where they announce stuff. The *best* way though is to just watch for the appearance of the first subbed ep since that tells me they're actually serious about it.
