What container was this file using? I remember encountering a similar problem in certain WMVs, like those anime trailers from the official websites. If that's the case, cropping won't do any good. I think it has to do with the decoder or something. If you really want to watch the video without the missing pixels, make a new AviSynth script using DirectShowSource() and run it.

It's a known issue with the WMV decoder (and/or with the associated ATi decoding acceleration) when the height is not mod16, it mirrors or does something else, God knows what to extend out to nearest mod16 height.
(HA HA USERS OF 704x396) IIRC it may be possible to fix somehow but I have no idea how. Try turning off WMV decoding acceleration if you have an ATi video card.

As I said, the solution is very simple (at least for me). I simply created an AVS file, added the following line:
Code:
DirectShowSource("Path_to_Foo.wmv")

The entire chapter concept is explained quite clearly in mkvmerge GUI's documentation.

Been discussed already quite a few times; http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=48116
And yes, I would say that 1% is less than negligible (or whatever that the correct error percentage is, it's very small either way).

@Starks as was previously said in that article, since the error is roughly 1% it is well within ignorable status. However if you wanted you could crop a total of 8 on the horizontal axis to get back to closely 0% AR error, or a total of 12 on the vertical.
As DryFire also pointed out...in the end you have to make the incredibly large assumption that it was done correct in the first place. I can't even imagine this because of all the other crazy shit the cappers do to their encodes. So I'd just ignore it. Specifically for this 704x396->704x400 example though. You just do it on a res by res basis . |

Anyone heard of this program AutoMKV?
this is the first I've seen it. seems pretty useful for changing formats. why is it running everything in the system run window edit: so i've been messing with the program a bit and reading on the doom9 forums and I think I'm gona like this program. its still a work in progress but its pretty cool so far. I would like to say its the encoding for dummies line of programs. I really like the feature where u can crop and change the width and height. I wish it came with presets on that feature, though. you can preview it in real time, thats very cool. Last edited by Potatochobit; 2007-07-06 at 04:13. |

I have notice my computer doesn't like mkv files my cpu goes to 100% cause of it, but if i look it in avi then its alright and doesn't push my cpu to 100% no matter what they say about .mkv, i still prefer my old sweet .avi files
