Okay, guys and girls!
It's that time again! RadiantBeam and I have completed... Day in the Life Chapter 28 Ginga PS: With all apologies to Genya fans out there. Spoiler for Ginga:
Ginga sighed as she took a sip of coffee, drinking slowly to let it warm her throat. It had been several days since she'd been treated for her injury, and already she was pleased to discover she could move around extremely well; though Mariel was still being stubborn and insisting she rest.
That and Nove and Wendi seemed to really enjoy enforcing Mariel's rules. They'd stayed as true to them as possible and had still found a way to keep Ginga in bed for pleasure. Ginga chuckled and shook her head. Honestly, the two of them were lucky she loved them both so much.... "Ginga?" She blinked and looked up, smiling. "Hey, Dad. What's up? I thought you were at work. Or did Subaru take Cinque and Dieci in today?" Genya shook his head and sat at the table, looking slightly grim. "Ginga... How long have you been dating Nove and Wendi?" "Um... Lemme think..." Ginga blinked and leaned back, thinking hard. "I think it's getting close to nine months now." Honestly, she was surprised that there was no snow yet. Even though it was definitely cold enough to have snow. It was probably for the better right now anyway. "Why do you ask, dad?" Genya sighed heavily. To be honest, he'd never been particularly involved in Ginga's relationship with the two redheads, but he was becoming increasingly concerned as he realized that the three weren't close to leaving each other. "Please hear me out." He closed his eyes. "I think... you need to break up with Wendi and Nove, now." Ginga stared at her father, her face pale as her eyes widened slightly. "D...Dad?" She had thought that her father was okay with the relationship. He certainly didn't disapprove of Subaru's relationship with Teana. "W...Why?" Genya sighed, he really hated to do this too. "Ginga, you really should try to find someone, someone who's not related to you." "Only through adoption." Ginga protested. "Hell, Nove and Wendi aren't even related by blood, so, we're just adopted, there's nothing wrong with it." "Ginga." Genya tried to interrupt as Ginga started to frown at him. "I mean, yeah, it would be frowned upon a bit, but at least we're not biologically related." Ginga was shaking now as she looked at her father. "Dad, why? I thought... I thought you were more accepting of lesbian relationships. You aren't upset about Subaru and Teana." "I accept them, Ginga." Genya was grateful she'd gone quiet, extremely grateful that she still had a mind to let him talk. "I never had a problem with the fact that Subaru was more inclined to girls and you went both ways." "Then why now?" Ginga swallowed hard, knowing that if she didn't she'd either cry or yell; and she didn't want to do that. "Why say something now when it's been so long since we got together?" ... And she'd backed him into a corner again. Ginga was good at that. Genya shook his head. "I honestly didn't think the relationship would last this long." Ginga laughed mirthlessly. "Neither did I. But they want me with them. And I like being with them, dad. They make me feel good, they hold me when I sleep, they comfort me when I'm down, they help me when I'm hurt. Isn't that what it means to be in a relationship, dad?" Her voice was breaking now. She loved her father, she really did. But, if he asked her to choose between him and her lovers, she couldn't do it. She couldn't choose between them. Despite knowing what he had to do, Genya's eyes softened. "You love them." Ginga nodded, her eyes burning as she tried to rub away her tears. "Is that so wrong? I mean, yeah, we're sisters, but only because you adopted us, dad." "Ginga..." He didn't know what to tell her without coming clean about it. He'd hoped, for her sake and for Nove's and Wendi's, that he would never have to say this. "I'm not saying it's wrong," he said at last. "I just think..." He sighed. "I need to talk to them about this, too." Ginga nodded and rubbed at her eyes. "They're still in the room, so..." "Can you get them?" Ginga nodded and left Genya alone, who sighed and looked at a nearby wall, which had a picture of his late wife hugging a young Ginga and Subaru. "How would you handle this, Quint, if you were still here?" He asked softly as he stood up and went to the pictures of his wife, one of which was a picture of him and Quint on their wedding day. "...I miss you, I do, but at least Subaru and Ginga are living reminders of you... So is Nove." He finished quietly, his fingers tracing the frame gently. --- Through willpower alone Ginga managed to swallow her tears as she went back to the room she shared with Nove and Wendi; she didn't want them to worry right away, or go off on Genya. They were both still asleep, dozing lightly by the look of them, huddled tightly together to make up for not having Ginga in the middle. For a moment the purple-haired woman paused, just watching them sleep. Something in her chest tightened painfully. It was worse, because she could recall exactly what was said to her... That she should break up with Nove and Wendi, not that the three of them should break up. Did Genya prefer Nove and Wendi to be together over her with them? She sighed and hugged herself. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the fact that the only other person she had ever had any romantic interest in had children and lovers now. If maybe that hadn't happened, she might have gone after that person. She heard a soft groan from the bed and looked at it, blushing slightly as she saw Wendi move slightly and start kissing Nove in her sleep. Other than their panties, the two never slept in any clothes, and even then, sometimes they slept naked. Maybe they would be better off without her. Maybe they would be just fine if she went along with Genya's request to end things. They always said otherwise, but looking at them now, she could imagine they'd be happy by themselves, without her there. Maybe they'd be a little hurt and angry and confused at first, but if they stayed together... Feeling the pain in her chest increase, Ginga pressed a hand to her mouth to stifle a rising sob. Maybe after she got well enough to go back on active duty she could request a long-term deep-space mission or something? "That would work." She said softly as she trembled. No, she... She couldn't wake them, not to tell them this. It was too much. She never realized that she slumped to the floor and pulled her knees up to her face. She never noticed when the tears started to fall. She never noticed the time slowly tick by as she quietly sobbed. She did notice, however, when she was pulled into an embrace by her two lovers. She hadn't even heard them wake up and come from the bed to the floor. Swallowing hard, she tried to stop her tears, but now that she was crying she couldn't make it stop. It made things worse, somehow, that Nove and Wendi were just holding her; no doubt confused by her tears, but they seemed to know not to ask. She knew she should push them away, should establish distance if Genya was going to be stubborn about this and make it end... But all she did was cling tighter to them and sob. The way that Wendi would rub her head as she cried into the redhead's chest made her hurt, the way that Nove whispered softly, she couldn't make out the words, into her ear, she... She needed to push them away, tell them the truth. She just ended up holding onto them and clinging for dear life, trembling as she sobbed. Nove looked at Wendi, completely confused as Ginga cried. She had no idea what to do, what to say, but she still had the urge to try and tell Ginga that it would be alright. "Ginga?" Wendi's voice was soft. "Hey, come on. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be all right." "Yeah." Nove nodded. "Even if we don't know what it is... you know we'll be here." Ginga swallowed hard at that, thankful as her tears finally ran dry. Hearing those words, though, the pain came back, sharp and fresh. Dammit, why did they have to care so much? It would have been so much easier if they didn't care so much, if they hadn't pulled her in with them at the beach that day. Why couldn't they have just been happy together? "I... You two... Get dressed..." She said in stuttering breaths. "Dad needs... He needs to talk to us." Nove and Wendi exchanged confused looks, but they both nodded. --- Genya glanced up as Ginga came back down the hall quietly, leading Nove and Wendi. He didn't ask why it had taken so long; he only had to look into Ginga's eyes to see how badly this was hurting her, and hated himself for it. It was the right thing to do, but... He saw confusion come into Nove and Wendi's eyes as Ginga leaned back against the counter instead of sitting down at the table with them, crossing her arms over her chest. Finally, he sighed. "Wendi, Nove... do you think you could be happy together, with just the two of you?" Ginga grimaced and looked away, feeling ice flow through her veins. Why did her dad have to do this? Wendi scratched her head as she blinked in confusion. "Um, I'm not sure... Why?" "Because... I don't think Ginga should be with you anymore." Genya was blunt. "If it causes a problem for you two with her around, I don't think she'd mind going on a deep space mission for a few years." There was utter, stunned silence for awhile. Then... "WHAAAAAAAT?!" Nove yelled as she stood up, punching the table hard enough to split it in half, sending it to the ground in a pile. "Dad?! How... How can you ask us to do that?!" Ginga winced. She probably should have warned Genya that Nove wouldn't take it well. Wendi was gaping, just gaping at him, but it wouldn't take much for her to explode too if given the chance. Genya barely even seemed fazed by Nove's outburst. "I was under the impression that Ginga was only with you to make the change easier. It's been nine months now, and you and Wendi should be fine without her." Wendi twitched at hearing that. "But... We're happy together. Why can't we stay happy together?!" Genya was trying his hardest to not come clean. "Don't you think you could be happy without Ginga?" Ginga winced and closed her eyes, fighting back tears. "I don't want to be happy with anyone but Ginga and Wendi!" Nove exclaimed, glaring at Genya. "Why ask us now, dad? Huh?!" Ginga didn't know what was worse: that her lovers looked confused, hurt, and angry, or that her father looked exhausted and much too small and old. "Dad." Her soft voice made him look at her. "You really want this? You don't mind Wendi and Nove being together, as long as I'm not involved?" Genya nodded quietly. ".... Fine." Ginga literally felt her heart shatter into a thousand pieces. "If you want that so badly, then I'll back off. Happy?" Genya was silent, even as Nove and Wendi looked at Ginga in shocked horror. "Ginga... You don't mean that, right?" Wendi said, trembling softly. Ginga was silent as she got up from the counter and walked back to her room, before closing it. "DAD?!" Nove glared at him. "WHY!?" Genya sighed softly and stood up. "I'm sorry." He said as he walked away, leaving two very confused and upset girls. I know that you must hate me, I'm sorry, but this is better in the long run. He thought to himself. He honestly didn't think that Nove and Ginga were ready to know the truth. At least not with them as close as they were. ... It didn't ease how much he hated himself at that moment. --- Amazingly enough, Ginga still felt at home in her old room, even if she'd more or less abandoned it in favor of Wendi and Nove's much larger shared room. She'd locked the door and was on the bed, staring quietly at the ceiling as she tried to figure out why she felt so cold and empty inside now. The pain was gone, but somehow this emptiness... it was worse. She couldn't close her eyes. Every time she did, she saw the horrified, shocked looks on Wendi and Nove's faces. Every time she closed her eyes and saw black, she heard Wendi's trembling voice asking her why. She knew why she did it. She did. She just... She just couldn't go against her father in this instance. He supported her, Subaru and their other sisters in everything. But, it felt... So weird... So... So odd that he would be so against her being with Nove and Wendi, but not against Nove and Wendi being together. "Why, dad? What are you thinking?" Ginga asked, trying to stop the emptiness from hurting so much. Honestly, she would rather feel something, anything, rather than the emptiness that she was feeling. She nearly fell asleep as the time slowly ticked on before blinking as someone knocked softly on her door, and automatically dismissed Wendi and Nove from her mind as potential candidates; the sound was much too gentle. "Go away," she muttered. "Gin-nee." Subaru's voice was soft. "Hey. Dad called me and.... he told me what happened." She hesitated. "Tea's with Nove and Wendi right now." Ginga's heart throbbed painfully. "... How are they?" "Let me in, please?" Subaru asked, causing Ginga to sigh and get up, undo the door lock and open the door. The instant that the door was open Subaru hugged Ginga tightly. "I'm sorry, Gin-nee..." She said softly, not even able to imagine how bad Ginga felt at that moment. "Am I a coward?" Unashamed, Ginga clung tightly to her sister, needing the support. "Should I have stood up to him, told him I wouldn't do it?" The pain was back, but the tears wouldn't come. "I... I don't know, Gin-nee... but, I don't think you're a coward." Subaru said softly as she hugged Ginga. "Dad has to have his reasons, even if he won't tell us." She sniffled softly as she hugged her older sister. "Gin-nee, I don't know what's right or wrong here. Dad didn't sound like he was happy about what he did." "How are they?" Ginga's voice trembled. "When you saw them and left Teana with them, how were Nove and Wendi holding up?" "They're pissed." Subaru was blunt, no sense in hiding it. "Nove punched a tree out of the ground." Ginga winced. "How badly pissed is pissed?" "I think Nove wanted to hurt someone." Subaru sighed as she rubbed Ginga's back. "How about you? Are you okay?" "No!" Ginga couldn't lie. "A part of me wants to go back and beg them to let me come back, and another part of me wants to go after Dad and yell at him!" "He has to have one!" Ginga pulled away from the hug and started pacing. "Dad's always supported us in everything that we did. He fought to let Dieci, Cinque, Nove and Wendi live here with us! He tries so hard to make sure that we live normal lives! So..." Ginga slumped and sat on the bed, burying her face in her hands. "Why?" "He didn't tell you why?" "No!" Ginga shook her head. "And that's the other thing, it was just me! Not Nove or Wendi, he wanted me away from them! Why?!" Subaru shook her head, sighing softly. "Did you want to leave them?" "No!" Ginga looked at her, tears falling down her face again. Why wouldn't they stop. "Dad's not making sense! I... It feels too dammed weird to lay in my bed without Nove or Wendi right next to me. I close my eyes and I see their faces... Why? Should... Should I just leave?" Subaru felt ice run through her veins. "What do you mean?" "I don't know, move out, maybe go on a deep space mission for a few years... something to get me away." "Gin-nee..." Subaru frowned at her. "Do... Do you really think that would be better?" Ginga sighed and flopped back on her bed. "I think it might be better, at least right now, just to get away, to let things calm down right now." "Gin-nee..." Subaru said softly and crawled onto the bed, straddling her sister and looking down at her. "Do you think that would be best?" Her green eyes were soft and misty. Ginga broke. "I don't know, Subaru! I don't know what's best for me to do right now! I just know that if I'm around them, I'll never be able to stay away from them like Dad wants! It hurts! Being away from them like this hurts too much!" "Gin-nee..." Subaru was slightly scared at the glare on her face. "Don't... Don't do something..." "What?! Stupid?" Ginga glared, tears falling out of her eyes. "Subaru, if... If I stay here, I'll just go crazy! It would be easier if I wasn't here with them all the time." She pushed her sister off of her and sat up. "I'll get packed and request a mission. "But, you just got out of surgery! You can't..." "Subaru!" Ginga yelled, causing Subaru to shut up, staring at her sister. "I... I'll just take a mission looking over some out-posts, no actual work for months, I promise." She sighed. "Please... Help me get packed." After a moment, Subaru sighed and nodded. "All right." --- "Did they crash?" Teela's soft voice made Teana glance down at her. The tiny blonde Unison Device was clinging to her shoulder, just watching Nove and Wendi lay dejectedly in bed. They'd only come inside after Teana had convinced them that no, uprooting all of the trees in their backyard wouldn't change anything. "No." Teana sighed. "They're just sad." "Oh." Tea, we have a problem. Subaru's mental voice was tense. Gin-nee wants to leave. Teana couldn't keep quiet even if she tried. "What do you mean, Ginga wants to leave?!" "WHAT?!" Wendi suddenly shot up, Nove was behind her, but her voice was slightly hoarse, so she couldn't yell like Wendi had. Teana winced at hearing that. "Yeah, Subaru just..." Gin-nee wants to leave, she's hurting and I can't stop her. She yelled at me. Gin-nee never yells at me! Subaru's voice as getting louder in her head. Hold on, hold on! Subaru! Listen, don't try to stop her, Teana ordered. Just help her, talk to her, keep it slow and give me time. "Are things getting worse?" Teela asked weakly. "You could say that." Teana sighed and turned back to Nove and Wendi. "Well, it's just as you heard. Apparently, Ginga wants to leave. She's hurt and can't stay here." "Ginga..." Wendi sniffled softly. "Why does this... Why couldn't Dad just let us be happy?" Teana raised a brow. "... So you're just going to let her leave?" "If she wants to..." Nove sighed, closing her eyes. "I don't want her to, but... She broke up with us. Just because Dad told her to." Teana rubbed her forehead, what the hell was Genya thinking? "Do you two not care enough about her to just let her go? If you let her leave, I guarantee you that she's going to be completely alone out there. I've seen some people who come back from long-term missions after being alone and by themselves, they're just shells of their former selves." Hell, she was almost certain that until she slept with Yuuno that Fate was starting to have a mental breakdown. "But..." Teana threw her hands up and glared at the two. "Look at you two! You're wrecks! Let me talk to your dad, you two should talk to Ginga. If she does go on a long-term mission, at least talk to her, make things right. You let her go... You two won't have her ever again." "But..." "No buts! You! Out! Now!" Nove and Wendi exchanged nervous looks before they got off the bed and slipped past Teana, all but crawling down the hall. "RUN, dammit!" They bolted as if their lives depended on it. Teana sighed and went to her kitchen before calling up a portable communication screen. "Genya Nakajima, please." After a few moments, Subaru's father appeared on screen. "Ah, Enforcer Lanster, how are you?" He asked politely, but Teana could see the tiredness and weariness in his features. Teana raised a brow. "Should you be working today?" she asked quietly. "You don't look well." Genya smiled slightly. "I'm fine, Enforcer Lanster. Just a little under the weather, but I'll live." "If you say so." Teana sighed, feeling Teela scramble for a better position on her shoulder. "It's about Ginga." Genya sighed and slumped as he leaned back. "I suppose that Nove and Wendi couldn't keep silent about this..." When Teana was silent he grimaced slightly. "So, aren't you going to ask why?" "I figure you have your reasons, Colonel." Teana crossed her arms under her breasts. "But, please... Enlighten me. What is going through your head?" "I simply want what's best for them." Genya's voice was weary. "Nove and Wendi would be quite happy on their own, and Ginga would do better to find someone else who isn't such a major part of her family life as well." "Oh?" Teana raised a brow. "Well, if you consider Ginga wanting to go into deep space for a few years a good thing and Wendi and Nove heartbroken, then yes, you did what's best for them." Genya rubbed his forehead. "Agent Lanster, do you honestly, honestly think that I'm happy about what I did?" "I don't know, Colonel. It seems that way to me." "I'm not..." Teana shook her head. "Listen, I had Nove and Wendi over here, crying their eyes out because Ginga broke up with them. And Ginga's planning on taking a long-term space mission and you, of anyone, should know just how bad those can turn out for anyone." Genya winced at that. "...Do you really want to know my reasons?" "It would help." "...Subaru, Ginga and Nove are related." Teana rolled her eyes. "Well, duh, you adopted them and..." "No." Genya cut her off and leaned forward. "Quint is their biological mother. All three of them." Seeing Teana's stunned look, he nodded. "I couldn't... Just tell them like that. Do you know how much that would hurt them?" Teana was quiet for a long, long moment before she sighed and groaned. "Dammit..." Genya nodded quietly. "Do you understand now?" There was a long moment of silence before Teela coughed. "But, mister... didn't you just hurt them more by forcing them to make that decision?" "Teela?" Teana blinked. "I just think, you know, you should have told them that and let them figure it out themselves instead of forcing them to break up." Teela shrugged. "Maybe that's just me." Genya sighed and looked down. "I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to hurt them." He was silent for a long time. "I screwed up with them." "It's not too late." Teela smiled at him. "You can always tell them the truth, apologize to them." "Do you think they'd want to see me, after what I did?" "You're their father." Teana smiled softly. "You made a mistake, own up to it, tell them why you did what you did. I don't think that they'll hate you." Genya hesitated, then nodded. "I suppose I'll tell them when I come home." Teana smiled as the screen turned off. She then looked at Teela with a raised eyebrow. "Since when are you an expert on relationships?" The small device usually couldn't even tell one person apart from another. Teela blushed and started poking her fingers together. "I... Uh... Saw it on television?" "You are too cute, you know that?" Teana smiled at Teela and lightly ruffled her hair. ---- Subaru sighed as she stepped out of Ginga's room. It was nice to see her sister energized again, but she was energized for all the wrong reasons. Wanting to go away from home and into deep space for several years was not something to be excited about, dammit! She shook her head helplessly, then blinked as she saw a flash of red. "Wendi? Nove?" The pair froze. "You're back." Subaru stated the obvious as she blinked at them. "Your girlfriend can be rather insistent, you know that right?" Nove said flatly as Subaru grinned, chuckled and nodded at her. "Isn't she great?" Subaru giggled as the two redheads sweat-dropped heavily. "That's not the word I would use, exactly," Wendi muttered. Nove nodded. "Ah, well." Subaru shrugged. "In case you're both wondering, Gin-nee's in there making a mess out of her room and trying to pack so she doesn't cry. Have fun." And with that she walked down the hall, giving the three privacy to talk. Subaru stopped in the living room and pulled a picture of Quint, herself and Ginga off the wall and walked to the couch, gently tracing her mother's face with her finger. "Mom... Gin-nee... I..." She sniffled and hugged herself, sobbing softly. Not for herself, but for her sister. What could she do? --- "Ginga?" Wendi peeked into Ginga's room and winced at the mess that was on the floor. "Ginga!" At the sound of Wendi's voice, Ginga went deathly still. She seemed almost frozen in place for a moment before she took a deep, shuddering breath and went back to what she'd been doing before. "What do you want, Wendi?" she asked tightly. "Ginga... Please." Wendi whimpered, tears in her eyes. "Don't... Don't go just because dad was harsh on us." Nove took one look at Ginga and couldn't help herself, she rushed into the room and hugged Ginga for all she was worth. "Don't run... Please, don't run from us." Ginga froze again, eyes wide and her heart hammering in her chest as Nove hugged her, tightly. Common sense ordered her to push the girl away; she was just making this more painful. Instead, Ginga slowly felt herself relaxing into Nove even as a muffled sob escaped her. "Nove, let go," she whispered hoarsely. Nove shook her head and squeezed tighter. "Not letting you go. Not till you talk." "Nove..." Ginga shivered, before looking at Wendi, who was trembling. She needed to push them away, she needed to tell them to go, she needed to... Open her arms and let Wendi hug her too. Dammit! Why can't I just let them go? Ginga berated herself as Wendi and Nove hugged her tightly, the three of them trembling as they held each other. Maybe because you love them? The small voice in her head sound exasperated. That doesn't change what Dad said! Despite herself, though, she clung to Wendi and Nove tighter as they trembled. "Wendi, Nove..." She trailed off, swallowed hard. "I..." Dammit, what was she supposed to say? She really didn't know what to say as they clung to her tightly. Ginga honestly couldn't say that this felt wrong. If anything, it felt so right. She just couldn't let them go, no matter what her dad said. "Gin-nee... Nove... Wendi..." Subaru spoke up from the door, rather timidly. "Can you three come to the living room, please?" When Nove and Wendi made no move, Ginga sighed. "What is it, Subaru?" she asked softly. "It's Dad... he says it's important." At that, the trio stiffened. "What does he want?" Wendi said, her voice tight. Subaru shook her head. "I... I don't know. He showed up, with some papers and wanted to see you three and me..." She took a deep breath. "He told me that he needs to show something to us." "Tell him to give us a couple minutes." Ginga said as Subaru nodded and left. Ginga waited until Subaru was gone before she turned back to her lovers... or were they really her lovers anymore? She honestly didn't know. "Wendi, Nove..." Her voice was soft. "I don't want to go." Nove's voice was hoarse as she clung to Ginga and Wendi. "I don't care what he says, I don't want to go!" Wendi shook her head and shivered softly. "Nove... Ginga... I... I think if he wanted to talk about us, he wouldn't want Subaru there. He wanted to talk to her too." "Maybe he wants her to break up with Teana?" Nove grumbled, twitching slightly. Ginga sighed. "Nove, we have to go." Nove sniffled, trembled and shook her head. She didn't want to go. She really didn't. "...okay..." She said softly. "But one word about making us break up, I'm leaving." Ginga smiled weakly. "Aren't we technically already broken up?" "Don't joke, please?" Nove muttered softly as she tightened her hug. "I don't want to break up." Ginga trembled softly, she didn't want to either. --- Genya wasn't surprised how long it took the three to make it out to the living room. He sighed as he looked at the looks on their faces. "Before we begin, I want to say, I screwed up." "Dad?" Subaru blinked in confusion as Ginga, Nove and Wendi sat down, utterly confused just like she was. "I should have told you three why I wanted you to break up." He took a deep breath and looked at Nove and Wendi seriously. "When you two were in the detention center, you had blood work done, to see if you had any relatives that existed out there." "Oh, so that's what that was for." Wendi muttered and rubbed her arm. "What about it?" Genya sighed and passed out a sheet of paper to each of the girls at the table. "For the most part, none of your sisters had any living relatives out there, Otto and Deed are blood related, and, you, Nove..." "...Mother... Quint... Nakajima..." Nove's face paled as her eyes widened, her body trembled as she looked from the paper to Genya. "This... This was..." "I've known since Ginga was helping you and your sisters get reintroduced back into society. I never told, I was worried that Ginga might give you preferential treatment, or that you would demand special treatment from me, Subaru or Ginga. I wanted you to grow as a family without knowing this." He sighed as he saw the rather stunned looks on everyone's faces. "I should have told you when you announced that you were dating. I really should have. I'm sorry that I put it off for so long, and, even if you can't forgive me for what I did earlier, I'm sorry that I hurt you three so much." There was a long moment of silence as Wendi coughed. "I've heard of kissing cousins, but..." "Why?" Nove's voice trembled. "Why didn't you tell us as soon as you found out we were dating?" "I should have." Genya admitted with a heavy sigh. "And I should have told you, Ginga and Wendi earlier when I asked Ginga to break up with you two. I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking properly earlier." "So that's why." Ginga's voice was soft, but it all made sense now. "That's why when you talked to me you were so adamant about my getting away from them. Wendi and Nove dating wasn't the problem, it was because I was involved." Genya nodded as he looked over the papers. "I was planning on telling everyone sooner or later, but I never could find the time." "Plus you were worried how Dieci would take it, weren't you?" Wendi said softly as she looked at Subaru and Nove. "...Now I see why so many people said that you two looked and sounded alike." "And why the three of us have similar Inherient Skills..." Nove muttered as she put the paper down and looked at Genya. "You couldn't... You couldn't bother to tell us?! Couldn't find the time to tell me that Ginga and Subaru were my real sisters?! That I had family that I was related to!?" Her eyes started to water. "I would have loved to have known that I was related to them by blood this whole time!" Genya sighed softly. "And then what would you have done if I told you that one of the women you loved was a blood relative?" "I... I... I..." Nove slumped back into her chair, losing the anger she felt building up. "...This isn't fair." "It never is." Genya said softly. "I honestly wish that I never had to do this." "No..." Ginga said, taking a breath and smiling shakily at her father. "It... it's better that you tell us... Instead of someone who would use it to hurt us." Genya sighed again. "So what do you intend to do now?" Ginga glanced briefly at Nove and Wendi before she sighed. "I was going to get a date with deep space, but now I don't know..." Genya nodded and stood up. "I need to get back to work. But you four needed to know about that." His face looked so old and tired at that moment as he got up and left his daughters alone. He didn't know if he had made ammends, or if he had made things worse. The worst thing that was going to happen was that Ginga was going to go and leave them for a few years in deep space. Subaru blinked before she slowly stood up. "I'm, uh, going to find Tea," she said. She smiled weakly at Nove. "Welcome to the family again, I guess." She bolted, leaving the three alone. Wendi looked at Ginga and Nove and sighed softly. She really didn't have anything against what she had just found out, and she was so going to get Dieci, Sein, Cinque, Otto and Deed together to let them know what she had found out at a later time, but for now... "Look, if you two want to kiss, I don't mind." She smiled at them, enjoying it as the two blushed and looked away. "Hey, Nove, Ginga... Is it really a big deal?" Never let it be said that Wendi knew the finer points of being a part of a family. Either that or she just didn't care. One of the two. Ginga hesitated for a moment, but when she spoke her voice was sure. "Not for me, no," she whispered, and glanced at Nove. Even as she blushed, she continued. "I... I love you, Nove, as much as I love Wendi. You two are the only people I can imagine being with. Even if we're..." She hesitated. "Even if we're sisters, or related by blood, that hasn't changed." Nove took a gulp of air before letting out a shuttering breath. "Are... Are you sure, Ginga? What if Dad objects again?" "I... I don't think... No, I don't know." Ginga wanted to say that Genya wouldn't press the issue again, that he'd let the three of them work it out now that they knew the truth. Considering his actions earlier. "...Nove, Wendi, can you two forgive me for not demanding he tell me why earlier?" Wendi shrugged. "Hey, not your fault, you know? You can't mind read, and he was messing with you." "Was he?" Nove said, sighing softly. She didn't think Genya was messing with them, but, maybe, just maybe he wouldn't object to them, now that they knew the truth? "But, Wendi..." A slow smirk came to her face. "Ginga broke up with us." "Hmm... You're right." Wendi giggled softly. "I think she needs to make it up to the both of us if she wants to be our girlfriend again." "You two... Still want to be my girlfriends?" Ginga asked, blinking as her eyes misted up. "Well... I think you're going to have to prove that you're not just going to drop us when Dad gets upset, Ginga..." Wendi said, nodding sagely as she crossed her arms under her breasts. "What do you think Nove?" Nove chuckled softly. "Perhaps Ginga didn't think enough about our feelings when she broke up with us last time?" Ginga groaned. "In my defense, he was working me long before I went to get the two of you," she muttered. "He sat down at the table and started talking to me about it before I went to wake you up." Facing that, alone, had been the hardest, most painful thing for Ginga to do. "Still, it wasn't very nice to just go and break up with us." Nove pouted at Ginga before looking at Wendi and nodding. "So, I think she really has to make it up to us." "Oh yes, definitely." Wendi grinned as Ginga groaned. "Hey, I was hurting too." Ginga pouted at them. "Don't you think you're being unfair?" "Hmm... Nope!" Wendi grabbed Ginga in a tight hug and smirked at her. "Come on, Nove, she needs to make it up to both of us." Ginga did not like the direction this was going, and sighed, amused and resigning herself to the fact that she was probably going to suffer now. Only she noticed that Nove, despite teasing with Wendi, looked nervous and.... scared. "Nove, hey." Ginga gently stepped out of Wendi's embrace and went to the shorter redhead. "What's wrong?" Nove took a deep breath and looked at Ginga. "I'm upset, to tell you the truth. I... I'm so worried about the next time someone comes along and challenges the three of us together. Then what? Will you break up and get back together with us again later? Will you leave us just to make someone else happy?" Ginga raised a brow, sighing. "And here I was thinking you were hung up on us being blood relatives," she murmured. "Well, yeah, that changes things between us." Nove sighed at that. "I... I just like being around you, Ginga. I don't care if we're related. Is that wrong?" She asked softly. Timidly, Ginga stepped closer and gently brushed her hand against Nove's cheek, making the other girl sigh; when she didn't complain, Ginga drew Nove into her arms, holding her tightly. "I don't know, to be honest," she admitted quietly. "I just... I know I like being around you, too. I want to be with you and Wendi, no matter what." Wendi suddenly grinned and hugged the two of them. "Aww... I love you two so much too." She gave both Ginga and Nove a kiss. Laughing, Ginga gently managed to slip away from the two redheads. "I think I need to go back to my room and clean it up," she said sheepishly. "I really made a mess of it, and a part of me is wondering if I'll be staying there for awhile." She knew Wendi and Nove had said they wouldn't kick her out of the bed, but she could forgive them in this instance. She was the one who had broken up with them, after all; she was the one who needed to get their trust back. "Hey..." Nove said as she and Wendi got up. "Hold up, we'll help you." "Thank you." Ginga smiled at them. "Just a warning." Ginga led them down the hallway and opened the door. "It looks like a battlezone." "Oh come on, how bad could it--" Wendi blinked. "Whoa." Ginga laughed sheepishly. The room was a mess. It had actually taken awhile for the pain to fade to emptiness, and until then she had more or less destroyed whatever she could get her hands on. Clothes and other items were strewn about the room, the narrow bed completely messed up and tangled. "Like I said, it's bad." Ginga shrugged. "But I should clean it up. You guys can go back to your room when we're done." Nove chuckled softly. They had been so focused on Ginga that they hadn't seen the state the room was in. "It's easy to make a mess, it's hard to clean up a mess by yourself." She smiled softly at Ginga. "I was paying attention back then when you thought I wasn't." Wendi sighed and started grabbing clothes off the floor and folding them up. "Besides, Ginga, it will go faster with help." To be honest, Ginga didn't want it go by fast; she didn't want it to end, for Nove and Wendi to leave to go their room and for her to stay here. Because she couldn't see them accepting her back that quickly, and she was too scared to ask them if they would. "Ginga?" Shaking herself, the purple-haired woman moved to help Wendi and Nove. It didn't take long, only a little over an hour, before the room was clean. Ginga found herself on her bed, laying down as Nove and Wendi were sitting on the floor. "So, now what?" Nove asked Wendi, who shrugged. She sighed and looked at the bed. "Ginga..." "Yeah?" "I... I'm still upset at you, at Dad, at this whole stupid situation." Nove sighed and slumped against the wall she was leaning on. "It hurt... A lot when you agreed with Dad. How do I know you won't do that again?" Ginga shrugged. "You don't." It was as simple as that. "I was hoping you wouldn't say that." Nove sighed softly. "So, where does that leave us?" Wendi asked and sighed. "Do we go back to the way things were? Walk on egg shells around each other? Or maybe actually discuss what we want for the future?" Ginga sighed again. "You weren't there," she murmured. "He started on me alone on purpose. He knew what he was doing." Exhausted, she rubbed her eyes. "Dad knows he has that kind of leverage with me. It's why he got me alone before he asked me to bring you two in. He wanted to rattle me up first." She wasn't proud to admit it, but it was the truth. Suddenly, deep space looked incredibly inviting. "Ginga?" Wendi blinked as Ginga sat up, looking slightly upset but determined. "Nove... Wendi... I've decided." "Huh?" They blinked and looked at her in confusion. "I'm going on that deep space mission." There was a long, long silence that passed before... "WHAT?!! Ginga cringed, but she'd made up her mind. "I won't be gone long. Only a couple weeks, maybe a month or two at most." "But--" "You two need time." Ginga's voice was soft. "I love you both. I do. But you need time to see if... if you can forgive me for this." "Why?" Nove looked at Ginga, her lips trembling. "You don't have..." "Nove." Ginga sighed and slumped. "It's not fair to either of you. I hurt you, I know that this might hurt all of us for awhile, and, honestly, I don't want you two to want to make up with me simply because I'm here. It's not fair to you two that I hurt you so badly." "But that's not the point!" Wendi protested, scrambling to her feet. "Maybe you hurt us, yeah, but you going off into deep space for awhile won't make things any better! Can't we just talk about it instead of you going away?!" Ginga sighed at that. "It might be. No, it would be, but, can you two honestly look at me and not feel betrayed somehow?" Wendi opened her mouth, then slowly closed it as the protest died. No, she couldn't deny it. Being reminded of it now, she still felt hurt. But that didn't change the fact... "I don't want you to leave." Wendi's tone was pleading. "I don't know about Nove, but Ginga, I want you to stay here. I want to figure this out with you, not while you're away on some deep space mission." "Aren't you being unfair to yourself, Wendi?" Ginga sighed and looked away. "If I'm still here, then you'd feel obligated to accept me back. At least," the purple-haired woman sighed and ran a hand through her hair, "at least if I was away, and you two wanted me back, really wanted me back, then you made your decision without me around to influence it." Judging by the long silence that answered her, she knew she'd hit the nail on the head. "It won't be a long-term thing, I promise that much." Ginga sighed again. "Only a few weeks, a month or two, and then I'll be back. Okay?" "You promise?" Nove asked, sighing as Ginga nodded. "Ginga, I... I don't think that you need to go, but..." Wendi sighed and closed her eyes. "Do you really want to go?" No! Ginga wanted anything but to go on a long mission. She really didn't want to, she didn't. "I think that, honestly, I think that maybe I need to get away from Dad for a bit too. I promise, this won't be dangerous work. It's mostly desk-work stuff with an occasional scuffle." Wendi and Nove still looked upset and Ginga sighed. "I'll take pictures, I promise. I'll be back. Eight weeks, no later, okay?" "Okay." Wendi said, looking glum. As for Nove, she honestly looked like she was about to start crying. Ginga looked at them both and sighed. She knew the best thing to start establishing the necessary distance was to gently ask them to leave, but... They both looked so miserable. Ginga shook her head before slipping off the bed to the floor, gently pulling the two redheads into a tight hug. The two stiffened before hugging her back, tightly. "I promise, I'll be back." Ginga said softly as Nove and Wendi held onto her tightly. "Just, do me a favor... If you two find that you enjoy yourselves a lot without me here, don't hold yourselves back. I don't want to hurt you two more than I already am." Tears were starting to well up in her eyes, small amounts, she was able to blink them away. Nove shook her head violently. "That won't happen." "Nove..." "She's right," Wendi cut in. "It won't happen, Ginga. We'll just wait for you to come back. It doesn't feel right without you." Ginga nodded and smiled softly at them. "Alright." Maybe it was foolish. Maybe it was crazy. But Ginga didn't care. She felt rather warmed by the fact that they were willing to wait on her. Still... "Just, just promise me that if you two do forgive me, it's not because you miss me." "We promise." They echoed it at the exact same time, and made Ginga laugh softly. Ginga just hoped that it worked out. They did spend a lot of time together, so, this was probably just what they needed. To see if their relationship was a real one, and not one of mere convenience. Spoiler for Notes:
The Teela/Teana scene after they got done talking to Genya was something I added as an after-thought. Even RadiantBeam didn't get to see it.
And, wow, only 1 post this time! o_o A shocking rarity! |

AlternativeS Chapter 1 (AS rough draft) AlternativeS Chapter 2 (AS rough draft)
Spoiler for Alternatives 3-1:
Spoiler for NSFW image (pantsu):
I awoke with a start, eyes snapping open as I felt an arm snake around my side. There was movement behind me and I almost grabbed the hand moving up my front to break its fingers before I remembered that Fate-chan had fallen asleep in my bed. Although I was content to sleep on the couch, I ended up thinking the bed would be big enough for both of us, and thus I had simply claimed the left side as my own while letting her sleep. Now Fate was behind me and my breath caught in my throat as her hand slipped in between the snap together buttons on my night shirt. I felt her palm touch my stomach and slide upwards, popping the catches loose as it went up. 'Wait!' my mind was functioning but my body wasn't listening. I could feel Fate's other arm slide under my pillow and her breathing against my hair. Her leg slid between mine and bent at the knee, raising upwards until I let out a small squeak at the feeling. 'St...stop, I'm not ready!' My mouth wouldn't open and my heart was thumping hard in my chest, right under the palm that was pressing on me enough to be considered a loose hug. The movement slowed down until it stopped altogether, Fate's gentle snoring now being muffled by my hair. I still couldn't seem to move my body, however, and I stared across my bed with wide eyes and a pounding heart while being embraced from behind. 'I'm... scared to move.' AlternativeS III By: Satashi Nanoha gazed over the pink and white pillow her cheek was resting on and watched the sun rise through the extra large windows that made up most of one wall. Fate was still asleep behind her, breathing peacefully against her hair in a steady rhythm. Just as the sun's rays started to creep onto her bed, the radio on her nightstand cut on to deliver the sounds of a popular song. Fate groaned at the noise and shifted as she tried to wake up. "Few more minutes..." Her request was mumbled lightly while stretching out. The brown haired girl suddenly found it easier to breathe as the hand went away from her chest. The warm body behind her moved and rolled over onto her back, allowing Nanoha to sit up and look down at the girl. "I was sleeping so well, too..." Red eyes struggled to open as the blonde sat up as well, looking over at Nanoha with a glazed expression. "Ah, g-good morning." Nanoha manged out, hand going to grip both sides of her nightshirt to close it enough to snap together. "You can go back to sleep, you don't have to get up this early." Fate looked at the girl blankly before sighing out. "For a moment..." Her sentence trailed, eyes looking away. "...I'm sorry." Nanoha felt a small pain in her chest. "I... thought you would like to sleep in this bed. I- I was going to sleep on the couch but thought the bed was large enough to..." Realization dawned on the blonde's face. "I have really bad sleeping habits. I'm sorry, did I make you uncomfortable?" "N-no!" Nanoha lied frantically, waving her hands. "I didn't even realize it until I woke up! Uhm, I-I'm going to get dressed now, you can go back to sleep." "Eh? No, I promised I would help you train remember?" Fate moved so she could crawl off the bed and stood up in a long stretch, revealing her tone stomach as the tank top rode upwards. "I don't have spare uniforms to wear so I guess I'll put on the standard 6th Division one Hayate gave me... I don't think it would be wise to walk around in my enforcer outfit when I don't hold the rank displayed." Nanoha watched the girl move to the closet and open it, taking out both of their clothes. "Um, thank you." "At the risk of sounding rude, would you like help getting dressed?" The blonde smiled happily, offering the clothes to Nanoha. "N-No!" Nanoha shook her head, blushing hard. "I can get dressed!" "Ah, okay." Fate nodded in understanding. "I'm sorry, I'll just go change in the bathroom, okay?" Giving a small wave over her shoulder, Fate turned to go on her way. The girl on the bed opened her mouth to protest but the memory of Fate's palm on her chest made her stutter out incoherently and allow the blonde to leave. 'Oh wow... I haven't been this embarrassed since...I don't know when.' Turning on the bed, she gripped the bars offered to her by Raising Heart and moved into her chair. 'I've never been held like that before... I don't think I slept more than an hour the entire night.' a light sigh came as she opened a drawer to get a change of underclothes. Nanoha's hand paused over the garments, a thought running through her mind that made her ears turn a light shade of red. 'I'm still so excited about Fate-chan paying so much attention to me... The way she held me so casually while she slept, is that what its like to fully trust in someone? I wonder...' Before she could change her mind, Nanoha shifted through the drawer and found a bright, neon pink pair to put on. Wheeling herself to her closet, she opened a drawer and shifted through her old skirts, finding one that she wore when she was a little younger and not quite as tall. 'I feel so dirty all of a sudden.' The though made her giggle while changing clothes, getting situated just as Fate came back into the bedroom. "About ready?" The blonde asked lightly while smoothing out her skirt and double checking her pantyhose. "Ready, just need to do my hair." Nanoha got a hair band and began to scoop up the mess of hair to pull up before Fate popped her hands lightly, making her let the brown hair drop. Fate picked up a brush from the nightstand and moved behind Nanoha, making the girl give up control of her hair and quickly started coming it for her. "I swear, you really need to take better care of your hair; you'll get split ends if you don't brush it properly." After being allowed to treat the tangled mess, Fate brought it up and combed the strands back to make a perfectly centered cheerleader-style high ponytail. "There, perfect." "I feel lopsided," Nanoha complained slightly, looking in the mirror and seeing the hairstyle. "Because the side of your head weighs so much you have to balance it out with a mop of hair." Fate smiled at her joke and moved to push Nanoha's chair before realizing that there were no handlebars there. "Ready now then?" "Yes," Nanoha moved her palm over Raising Heart and glided down the ramp leading to the ground floor. "And we still have time to get there before everyone else." As the two made their way out of the building and to the training field, Fate inhaled the crisp morning air deeply. "One thing that doesn't change is the tranquility of the morning." "Yeah." Nanoha nodded in agreement. Fate hummed to herself as they passed the few people that were out so early and wondered why they all looked away from them. "I wonder what's wrong?" "What?" "Everyone we pass looks down at you then glances away." "I have no idea." Nanoha almost sang the words before stopping to turn to face Fate. "What do you think?" Fate glanced down and almost did a double take. "N-Nanoha!" "Yes?" She tilted her head to the side lightly. Fate leaned down to her and whispered to her frantically. "Your skirt is too short, you can see your panties!" "So?" Nanoha smiled cutely up at her. "But... but...!" The blonde stammered back in shock, unsure of what she just heard. "Fate-chan won't let anyone look." Nanoha reached up and touched Fate's nose in an open flirt. "So I can wear this small skirt, right?" "N...No! No you can't!" "Why?" Nanoha tilted her head lightly and gave her best innocent eyes. "A little peek never hurt anyone." "Because!" Fate shook her head. "I don't want... You just... Don't!" Spoiler for AlternativeS 3-2:
Nanoha smiled brightly, eyes shining with happiness. With that, she turned and began moving again, smiling even more as Fate suddenly began walking in front of her. 'I don't think I will ever get tired of this feeling.' Her palm snapped back on her control orb when Fate stopped walking, forcing her to come to a sharp halt. "Fate-chan, don't stop so suddenly." Moving around her, she looked at what made the blonde hesitate. "Well I'll be. Teana and Subaru are already practicing." Fate looked at her watch and smiled to herself. "In my world your training session starts as soon as they get to the field, regardless if you are there or not. Those two took it upon themselves to make the most of their time, not because they are supposed to, but because they both desire something." "What's that?" Fate began walking again, subconsciously shifting in front of Nanoha again. "Teana has a goal of being recognized. She wants everyone to know what a Lanster is capable of. Subaru..." The girl hesitated her words. "In my world, she idolized you because you showed her how to be strong... however, I don't think you could have been there when that happened..." "I met Subaru a long time ago," Nanoha revealed as she went to her instructor's podium near the field. "She had her arm broken after being in an airport that was on fire. Poor thing was seriously hurt..." Nanoha looked over at Fate with a questioning glance. "I know she's a cyborg." "Ah. Then you'll understand. I heard her crying as I was visiting someone else in the hospital. I felt like I needed to help the small girl, even if I didn't know her. When I went in, she tried to hide, thinking I would consider her a freak if I saw her exposed wires. She was older than I thought she was, but she was crying so hard I felt as if she needed more of a talking to rather than pampering. I stayed and talked with her for a few hours, listening to her story and in turn sharing mine." She patted her legs to imply which story it was. "When it was over, she said she was amazed I didn't give up being in the military. When I told her I would never give up on something that meant a lot to me and my friends, she seemed really awed. I told her if she took that path like her family did, I would personally train her and... well, here she is." Fate felt a small bit of contentment in her chest at hearing the story. "Good, its nice to know some things still work out okay. Tell you what, I'll head to the field and play with them. Would you mind setting up something for us?" "Sure," Nanoha brought up her monitors with the help of Raising Heart. "What would you like?" ~**~ Hayate looked up from her desk when a knock at her door came. "Come in," she addressed curiously. When Fate walked into the room she smiled and stood to greet her. "Hello, Fate-chan." "Hey," Fate saluted the girl. "Nanoha said she had some things to take care of so I thought you might want to get lunch together. Do you have time?" "Certainly." Hayate reached back to get the purse from her desk. "Where did Nanoha-chan run off to?" Together, the two made their way to the door. "She said something about needing to shop in town. I offered to go with her but she insisted to go alone." Hayate glanced over at her new friend as they rode the elevator down to the first floor. "Your tone seems a little...miffed. Did something happen?" When the blonde looked away, Hayate was about to say never mind, but when the small hints of a blush came along with fidgeting, she pressed on. "Seems like an interesting story." "How do you always know when things are interesting?" "Sixth sense, get used to it. So tell me, what makes the girl from another dimension upset at my little Nanoha-chan?" Fate waited until they were outside the building and heading to the parking lot nearby before answering. "It's silly." Her weak attempt at not explaining was deflected almost at once, leaving her no choice but to go on. "It's just that... Nanoha is purposely riling me up today." Hayate unlocked her car and looked over the top of it. "Nanoha-chan? Purposly upsetting someone? Sounds a little weird to me." The two got in and closed the doors before getting comfortable. "What is she doing?" "Well... Yesterday I made a comment that my Nanoha is a little...well... she's not exactly shy of her body. She likes to flaunt it, mostly in short skirts and letting people catch little glimpses of her underclothes. Anyway, your Nanoha seemed embarrassed at first but I told her how it always made me so frustrated, trying to make sure nobody saw my wife, you know?" Propping her chin up on her palm, Fate stared out the passenger side window as her friend drove them into town. "Today she wore bright flashy panties and a skirt that is so short its really perverse. You can see her plain as day and she took every opportunity she had to make me stand in front of her." Hayate took a moment to let this soak in, blinking several times as she tried to absorb this information. "Wait, so Nanoha-chan... Is purposely flashing people?" "Just to make me get embarrassed," Fate finished the thought for her. "Because you told her that's what your Nanoha did?" "...I guess, it makes the most sense. She told me that she knew I wouldn't let anyone see her, so... I mean, I know its none of my business, but she's still Nanoha, even if she's not my Nanoha, you know? I can't just... let someone see her." "I see..." Hayate sighed out. "She seems to have taken a liking to you." "...Yeah." Hayate looked over at the blonde before turning her attention back to the road. "Should I talk with her about it?" Fate didn't answer for a long time, rolling the question over her head and all the possibilities it could hold. After a while, she finally replied with what she thought was best. "We probably shouldn't worry about it; I won't be here for too much longer, hopefully, so it shouldn't be a problem." "My boyfriend agreed to help us figure this out-" "Boyfriend!?" Fate looked at her in shock. "...Do I not have one in your world?" "Well, you dance around with Yuuno but-" When Hayate grinned at her, Fate felt a bit of pride in her chest for the girl. "Well I'll be. I wonder how me not being here effected that." "Not sure, but he's very interested in you. I'm sure we will get you home." "...Thanks, that means a lot." The two shared a pleased look before turning to gaze back out the window and listen to the soft music playing in the car. ~**~ Nanoha hummed happily to herself as she placed a bag of clothes on her bed. 'I got Fate-chan enough to last her a while, I hope she likes them all.' Taking out the garments, she held up her choices again. A few shirts that were light enough to be worn in the summer but still warm enough to last through the changing seasons they were going through. A few skirts were placed on the bed as well, followed by underclothes that she hoped would fit the girl's ample chest. 'Well she did say she liked black so at least it was easy to match things up.' Her attention turned when a familiar rhythmic tapping came on her door. "Come in, Hayate-chan!" "Hello, hello!" Hayate waved as she entered the room. "I saw you pull in from my window at the office so I thought I'd see where you ran off to, leaving your little puppy all on her lonesome." "Vita-chan can handle training just fine until I get there." Nanoha stuck out her tongue. "She's not a puppy." "Follows you around as much." The two shared a giggle at the inside joke and Hayate sat on the bed. "Oh, doing some shopping?" She held up a shirt and whistled at it. "Wow, nice brand. I really like the design." "I got it for Fate-chan, she can't afford anything to wear yet." "I see." Hayate looked down at Nanoha and sighed out lightly. "You know, you really should change skirts." "Why? I like this one." Nanoha laughed to herself. "Its amusing." Leaning forward, Hayate propped her elbows onto her knees and thought for a moment. "You know, I didn't really believe it when I heard, but seeing you actually doing it is rather unnerving." "What do you mean?" The girl turned her chair to face Hayate directly. "What's wrong?" "Nanoha-chan..." Judging her words, the girl met her friend's eyes. "I think you're getting a little too clingy on Fate-chan" Nanoha blinked in confusion, then laughed. "What do you mean? She's lonely, she needs someone to be there for her. I'm her wife-" "You're not her wife, Nanoha-chan." The sudden firmness made Nanoha instantly pay more attention to her. "First you let her carry you around, then you let her stay in your room overnight, and now you're... exploiting her to get attention." "I'm not exploiting her! What makes you say that!?" Nanoha moved closer to her, eyes and tone of voice clearly stating she was displeased in the word choosing. "Nanoha-chan," Hayate reached out to take Nanoha's hands. "I know she's lonely and all, but you're the one who's craving the attention. You don't even know her, yet you're doing everything in your power to make sure she's always thinking about you. Don't you think that's a little unfair to Fate-chan?" "I don't see what you mean." "For goodness sakes, Naoha-chan!" Hayate raised her voice in an exasperated tone. "You're flaunting your panties like a cheap hooker just because Fate-chan said your other self did it!" "If I was flaunting them, its none of your business!" "You're only doing it so Fate-chan will protect you!" Hayate made sure Nanoha's eyes were still on her. "Did you already forget why Fate-chan fought Lexus the other day!? He was treating you like a tramp and she went and fought him just because she wanted to protect your image! And here you go, flashing everyone because it makes you feel special to have someone who will look out for you. That's insulting to Fate-chan's meaning isn't it!?" "That has nothing to do with this!" Nanoha let go of Hayate's hands angrily. "Could it have crossed your mind that I want people to see them!? I don't exactly have a lover you know. If it gets me attention from someone who already likes me, what's the harm!?" "If you wanted to attract someone, you would have done it in another way! You're doing this because you know it would give you attention from her! There's a differnce!" "Even if I was what gives you the right to tell me not to!?" Hayate stood and threw her arms out. "Nanoha-chan, listen to yourself! you're defending yourself like this has been the way you are for years! You're trying to be someone you're not just so Fate-chan will look at you. don't you see a problem there?" "NO!" Nanoha shook her head. "I do not! Listen, we're not all lucky enough to have the love of our lives so casually stroll into our lives and click into place like you did. I was given a second chance, Hayate-chan! Somewhere out there, there is a person just like me who has this perfect woman who loves her more than anything and is living a happy life that could be mine!" "Exactly!" Hayate cut her off harshly. "And that person wants her Fate-chan back! We're all working hard to send her home while you're pawing her up! She loves that Nanoha, and you're trying to become her!" "...Leave." "Nanoha-chan, I just-" "Please leave." Nanoha turned around and went silent, staring at the floor. "...I'm sorry I yelled." Hayate walked over to her friend and put both hands onto her shoulders. "Please, Nanoha-chan... I just don't want to see you hurt, okay? I love you." Leaning over, she kissed the brown hair in front of her. "I'll tell Vita-chan to cover the entire lesson for you, so please try and-" "Hayate-chan," Nanoha's words broke. "Just... just please leave." "...Okay." Hayate gave the shoulders a squeeze and left the room, rubbing the bridge of her nose while trying to wipe away tears before they formed. 'That could have gone a hell of a lot better...' Nanoha slowly raised her hands, letting her chair shift forms so she could brace enough to move to her bed. Sitting there, she picked up a black and gold bra that she had picked out for herself and looked at it a few moments before tossing it to the foot of her bed. 'I am being myself,' She thought, moving so she was face down onto a pillow. 'I'm not doing anything I don't want to, Hayate-chan just doesn't understand what its like to be alone...' Pressing her face against the pillow harder, she felt a small damp spot appear near her eyes. 'I'm not so desperate for love that I'd change who I am just for one person am I?' Her breathing broke when a sob came from her mouth. 'I didn't put myself on display just for her, I did it because I... I...' Pulling the pillow closer, she used it to muffle her crying as it slowly started to overtake her. 'I'm so pathetic...' Spoiler for AlternativeS 3-3:
~**~ Nanoha felt a hand on her head and slowly opened her eyes when a petting motion was made. "I assume," Vita's voice came from beside her. "That you didn't just fall asleep after a shopping trip?" "Mm." Nanoha stayed laying down, face half buried in her pillow. "You going to start talking or am I going to have to sit here for a while?" Vita scooted so she was sitting right in front of the laying girl and leaned back, propping her hands up behind Nanoha so the girl couldn't roll away from her. The blue eyed girl sighed out and wrapped an arm around Vita's waist. "Vita-chan, do you think I'm a bad person?" "Everyone has a moment where they do something bad. Its what we do after it that's important." Her tone was light, casual as she looked up at the ceiling. "What did you do that's so bad?" "I'm... trying to cheat." "Cheat what?" This time the smaller girl looked down at Nanoha's face and noticed that she had been crying. "Fate-chan." "Ah, I finally got to talk to her today. Seems like an okay person, I guess. How are you cheating her?" "... I'm... Its hard to explain." "Then start talking." Vita rolled her eyes. Nanoha smiled lightly and pulled the girl closer. "You know, normally the person doing the hugging is the one trying to comfort." "I prefer this." Nanoha took a deep breath. "Fate-chan is from another universe or time-line or whatever, right?" She was hummed at. "So, I was talking to her and... Well, she's married to me over there." "So I've heard." "I just... kind of latched on to that...I don't know, I was just looking for someone to love me and all of a sudden this girl appears that I'm supposed to be with... I guess I tried to skip the whole 'fall in love' part of relationship and jumped straight into the 'you'll understand everything about me' part." Vita looked back at the ceiling and kicked her legs lightly off the bed. "You do realize she isn't going to stay here, right?" The arm around her waist pulled her closer. "I see." "I'm a bad person." With an annoyed sigh, Vita began patting Nanoha's hair again. "Nanoha, don't be stupid. It is a strange situation and you acted the way you did because you were... I don't know, but you did it. If you feel sorry for it now and know you made a mistake, why dwell on it?" "Grown ups are complicated." "I'm older than you." The remark made Nanoha smile again and Vita moved a strand of hair from the closed eyes. "Nanoha, just be yourself. Do what you want because you want to. Just because there is a woman who is telling you strange things doesn't mean that you are a different person. I don't think I'd like a Nanoha who was trying to be something that she's not." "...Thank you, Vita-chan." Nanoha opened her eyes and curled around the girl. "Why is it you always know what to say to me?" "If I knew, I'd use that to talk to Signum and Shamal to get them to stop treating me like a kid." Nanoha smiled knowingly at the remark. "Be happy they care so much." "Yeah, sure. Now, are you going to help me in tonight's training or what?" Nanoha sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Yeah, I think I'll be able to. Thank you so much for covering for me." "Its what I'm here for." Vita hopped off the bed and put a hand on her hip. "But I do want to say something." "Yes?" "Don't grab at smoke, you can't hold it." The words made Nanoha look down a moment before meeting Vita's eyes again. "I want to try anyway, even if I know the results." The smaller girl groaned and began walking away. "Don't expect me to buy the alcohol that night 'cause I ain't doing it." Nanoha giggled and reached out to grip Raising Heart's offered bars to get into her chair. "Yes you will." She got a snort and the girl felt her spirits lift considerably. 'Even if I know she is going to leave... I want to experience this for what it really is... without cheating. ~**~ Fate let out a breath as Nanoha called the mock battle to be over. In front of her, Tea and Subaru almost collapsed in relief, panting hard and almost chocking on the air they were breathing in. "Good job," she praised the two while glancing over her body to find out where she was struck at. After a few moments, she noticed that her camp had a dirt smear on it from Subaru's kick. Granted, it wasn't a hit that would have effected her any, but the exercise was just to touch her, not damage. "Don't you think..." Subaru fell back onto her butt and placed her hands into her lap. "That this is a little too intense?" "No, not really." Fate replied back, walking over to them. "But I did overlook one thing?" A monitor showing Nanoha's image appeared beside them. "What was that, Fate-chan?" "Tea is still using her old gun, and Subaru doesn't have her roller blades. I'll talk to you later about them." Turning to face the pair again, she addressed them while Nanoha busied herself with checking in on her other students. "You two are working well together, but can still use some improvements. Tea, you need to try and distract your opponent more so Subaru can get in clean hits." "Its hard when she moves so erratically." The remark made Subaru laugh nervously. "That's part of having a partner. You have to learn how to read body movements. In time you will be able to tell what Subaru will do before she does it, but the same principle will apply to different people as well. Control over your bullets will mean the difference in your team getting hurt and succeeding. Subaru, your hesitating too much. Have more faith in yourself." "Yes ma'am." Tea met Fate's eyes and nervously waved her hand when the blonde tilted her head lightly as to ask what she was going to say. "Ah, its nothing..." "Go ahead." The gunslinger scratched her cheek. "Uhm, I was just wondering... Why did you have me transferred here and paired with Subaru? I mean we know each other, but still... That's going a long way for a low ranked mage." "You're only low ranked because you haven't been trained," Fate answered easily. "Trust me when I say that I know your potential. Nanoha does too, or else she wouldn't have allowed me to train with you two personally this time." "...I see." Fate let her barrier jacket dissolve around her. "You two go take a shower and rest up for tomorrow. Be sure to eat enough okay?" Subaru hopped to her feet. "No problem I'm starving!" The blonde allowed herself a smile at them before taking to the air. Flying over the trees, she left the training area and landed on the walkway to make it over to the instructor's area. As usual, the woman had several monitors all around her, blue eyes scanning each screen for a few moments before nodding and moving on to the next one. As she made it to the wheelchair, Nanoha opened her mouth to speak before the girl could say anything. "I'm sorry about ditching you earlier, I got distracted by things I had to take care of." "No problem, I had fun being with Hayate. Vita was here afterwords to keep me company." Nanoha nodded. "I have some things for you at home, want to come over and join me for dinner while I give them to you?" "Eh? You didn't have to get me anything!" "I wanted to." Nanoha turned her chair to face Fate and smiled when red eyes dropped briefly. Moving her hand down between her-now long- skirt, she giggled. "Perv." "Ah! I wasn't... I mean..." "If you want to look, then it will be in private." Nanoha looked back at her monitors, hands going to make some notes on her students. "I won't let anyone else see just to rile you up." Fate stayed silent, observing the girl in front of her until Nanoha glanced at her again. "What?" "Nothing, I'm just.... happy, that's all." Nanoha blushed. "that I offered to show you? Perv." "Not that! I...Nanoha!" "See? I can make you blush too." The words were proud, and the girl who spoke them let the topic drop there. Going back to her notes, she let Fate stand there and wonder just what she meant. "Okay students," She addressed, making all the people on the screens stop and look at her. "I'm calling it here tonight. All of you did well, I'll be working with you in groups tomorrow so get plenty of rest, okay?" Fate could see each face look as if they had just been told they would be checking if their barriers could withstand divine busters while blindfolded. 'I guess she's just as strict here as she is back home... I wonder how she'll do that while being in a wheelchair?' The students all saluted and Fate turned to walk with Nanoha after the girl finished closing the training field down. "Good day?" "Very," she answered back contently. "I learned a lot today. I feel much better." "Oh?" "Secret." Nanoha teased her. "I hope you like what I got you." Going with the change in subject, Fate moved her hands behind her back and clasped them together. "I'm sure I'll like anything you got me." "... I'm glad." The soft words made Fate look down at her but disregarded it when the girl seemed content and happy. When Nanoha's room was opened, Fate took a moment to pull off her boots and rub her feet. "I prefer heels, as weird as that sounds." Red eyes went to Nanoha's feet and she knelt down. "Shoes?" "Oh, yes, please." Nanoha allowed the girl to take off her blue and white boots. "That feels so much better." "Do you get cramps?" "Yes, its not very fun." Fate stood back up and followed Nanoha up to the bedroom. "I'll rub your legs for you?" "I'd like that, very much. Here!" Nanoha picked up the bag that she had stuffed the clothing in earlier and handed it to Fate. "I hope it all fits." "Aww, Nanoha." Fate began taking the articles out one at a time, inspect each one with a smile. "Thank you, they're just what I would pick out." reaching back in, she pulled out a bra/pantie set that made her blush. "Oh wow, I don't think that will fit." "Erk... that's... that's mine. sorry." Nanoha took it and felt her cheeks burn. "I guess I was distracted when I put them in the bag." "Aw, don't be shy, it would look really nice on you." "Really?" Nanoha looked up hopefully. "Mean it?" "Of course." Fate answered back simply, as if it were common place for her to say things like that. "Black and pink really works on you, it brings out your eyes." While talking, Fate continued to inspect her new clothing. "I can't thank you enough for this, it was really a problem for me not to have anything and no money." "I'm just happy to help." Nanoha leaned back in her chair and watched Fate hold a shirt to herself, smiling in the mirror. "You know, you're really cute." "Thank you," Fate beamed at the compliment, still looking at her new clothes happily. "Next time, lets go shopping together." "Sure," Fate answered again, not really paying attention to what she was agreeing too. Her interest was on a skirt that she was considering putting on the next day. 'Even if you are leaving, you're here now... I'll let you go when I have to... until then, I'll be selfish...' Nanoha smiled and moved past the girl. "I'll start cooking, why don't you take a shower and change into something more comfortable. Will the nightie fit you?" "It sure will." Fate held up the see-through black fabric and smiled at it brightly. "It's so pretty! It matches these boy-shorts perfectly, thank you so much!" Turning, she gave Nanoha a hug. "I really appreciate this, you just don't know." "Thanks, that felt nice." "Well, I'll hug you again once I'm clean." Fate patted Nanoha's head twice before going over to the bathroom, new clothes in hand. Spoiler for AlternativeS 3-5:
~**~ "Yuuno, hey." Fate's greeting made a male glance over to his side, stopping his walk to the main building of section six. "My name is Fate Harlaown." "Ah, you're the girl." Yuuno offered his hand, which was shaken with a little discomfort from the enforcer. "Hayate has told me about your situation." "Thank you for helping me." She made a motion with her hand and the two began to walk side by side. "I really appreciate this." "You're welcome, I am ahead of work at the library so I needed a vacation." Fate held back a small chuckle. "You and your 'vacations'." "Oh? Am I like this in your world too?" With a nod, Fate smiled at the fond memories. "Yes, you would often come pick up Vivio to take with you. Nanoha and I would use that time to have some peace and quiet. Not that she's normally that bad, but... she's really energetic. If she couldn't sit still and read books for hours on end, I'd swear she had ADHD. I guess she stores all her energy up for quick bursts." She got laugh from the male at that statement. "So who is Vivio?" "My daughter." Fate nodded at him when he opened the door for her. "I wonder how she's... oh, hello Nanoha." Fate looked down at the woman. "How was morning training?" "Went just fine. It went a little longer than I had planned but everything is on track. I decided to give them the day off, lord knows they need one. Subaru even asked if she could borrow a bike from Vice to go into town. Seems like Teana knows how to drive one." "Yes, she has a passion for the things." Fate clasped her hands behind her back. "We often talk a lot on our missions about cars...and...bikes..." "Harlaown-san?" Yuuno held out his hand to keep the elevator doors from closing. "What is it?" Fate stood still, thinking as hard as she could. "Wait a second... the recent android attack... Section six not being that old...Day off..." Her red eyes went wide. "Vivio! Nanoha, we have to get to Hayate!" Running into the elevator, she hit the top button and hopped in place as it began to move. "Fate-chan? What's wrong?" "Vivio. Erio and Caro found her in the sewers a few months after the base opened up. It was when Tea borrowed Vice's bike and... oh my god, my little girl is all alone..." When the doors opened, Fate ran forward and opened Hayate's door without knocking. "Hayate!" The girl sitting at her desk jumped lightly at the sudden intrusion and gave Fate a shocked look. When no apology came paired with the frantic running for her desk, Hayate looked at the screen in front of her and smiled apologetically. "I will have to call you back, I have some issues to contend to." Closing down the window, Hayate looked over at the blonde. "I hope this is very important, I just got a call about an illegal lifepod that-" "That's just it!" Fate interrupted. "That was Vivio, we have to find her before the numbers do!" "Numbers?" Hayate stood up. "I think you need to fill me in on some things." "Lets go to the chopper, can you contact Subaru and Tea?" Nanoha threw out her hand to grab Fate's arm as she walked past. "Whoa! What is going on!?" Fate took Nanoha's hand and pulled her along so the girl had no choice but to follow. "You come too, this is important." The one in the wheelchair in turn grabbed Yuuno's arm, pulling him along for the ride. Hayate closed her connection with Vice and nodded at Fate. "He'll meet us on the roof. You told me earlier that you are behind your time period right?" "Yes, by almost three years." Fate walked faster when the elevator door to the roof was opened. "Space-Time really threw one over on me. Now," Red eyes looked around the helicopter and saw Vice come running out the stairway door. "Good, I'll explain everything once we're inside." Yuuno sat next to Hayate and leaned over to whisper in her ear. "Its not like you to let yourself be dragged around like this." "I'm skeptical too, but I can tell she's honestly scared. If she knows about this life pod, then it may help us take down Scaglietti... By the way, hi." Yuuno grinned and shook his head. "Always a fun time with you."

@Nanya: Broken hearts suck. *gives the three girls a hug* At least they're dealing with it intelligently.
@Satashi: Go Fate! Use your knowledge of the future to change the past! Hopefully it doesn't mess things up too much. |

Continuing my streak of starting more fics than I can finish, I threw this together after watching a short anime last night. Which one will be a secret, though I'll let you know at the end
This is about Yuuno having a problem, and Nanoha giving him a hand in a way that neither one expected... Spoiler for Right Hand Mage, Chapter 1:
Right Hand Mage
Chapter 1 “Yes, we plan to do the major excavations in a bit,” Yuuno was saying, speaking to the face in the floating video screen. “If all goes well, we should find some interesting ruins down below.” “That's great!” Nanoha replied, her face sideways as she brushed her hair. “It sounds like you're having a lot of fun!” “Uh, yeah, I'm keeping myself busy!” the young archeologist replied, laughing nervously. “How are Fate and Vivio doing? It's almost night time there, isn't it?” Nanoha nodded. “Fate will be home soon, but I already put Vivio to bed. She's looking forward to visiting you in the library next week.” “She has been a surprisingly big help,” Yuuno admitted. “She almost reminds me of myself when I was that age.” Nanoha turned toward the screen. “Well, I think Fate just came home, so I'm going to head to bed. Take care, Yuuno-kun, and be sure to call and tell me what you found!” Yuuno smiled and agreed, and ended the connection. Once her face was gone, he allowed himself a sigh. [Over ten years, and I still couldn't say it. But I suppose this wasn't a good time anyway.] “Yuuno-san!” another female voice called. “We're ready, and they need you for barrier control!” “I'll be right there, Laeva-san,” Yuuno answered the girl, standing up. She was about the same age as him, another member of the Scrya tribe. Brown eyes and short pink were her most prominent traits, but she also came across as rather quiet, usually. The exceptions being when she was on the verge of making a discovery, like now. He walked over to her, heading towards the dig site, and she fell into place alongside him, carrying her data pad in both hands. “Um, the Elder thinks we may have found the main catacombs this time,” she told him. “I hope so,” Yuuno replied, though he felt the same. “This will be our third attempt!” She smiled. “Third time's the charm, yes?” Yuuno nodded again, looking up at the large rock face, various machinery scattered about. At the base, a large hole was being dug. This was one of the more major Scrya operations, so he had come in to help. His barrier skills were one of the best in the clan, and would be needed to help avoid a cave-in. “Um, I need to report to Elder Gierv,” Laeva told him. “Good luck!” “Thank you, you too!” He waved as she took off, then heading into the torch lit cavern. “Was that Yuuno-kun you were talking to a short while ago?” Fate asked, sitting down on the bed. Nanoha nodded, as she watched Fate slide under the covers. “He's on another dig at the moment.” Fate smiled. “He does like doing that.” “Yeah, but he didn't seem as happy this time for some reason,” Nanoha noted as she switched the lights out. [He's also seemed a bit distant lately. Maybe I should visit him and cheer him up? It has been awhile since we talked.] “Perhaps you can ask him about it next time you talk,” Fate suggested, yawning. “It's still your day off tomorrow, right? I'll take care of Vivio in the morning, and see her off to school. It's on the way to headquarters, where I need to meet up with Teana anyway.” “Thanks, I'm looking forward to sleeping in!” Nanoha told her, closing her eyes. “Good night.” “Good night, Nanoha.” “A little more...” Elder Hunarn called, directing the final effort. “Okay, there!” A pair of mages finished using their magic to move a large boulder out of the way, setting it down to the side. “Well, what do you think, Yuuno-kun?” Hunarn asked him, then paused. “Yuuno-kun?” The other archeologist shook his head. “I'm sorry, was just thinking a bit. Um,it looks good. I should be able to brace this tunnel, as soon as Juno gives the final word.” “We're through!” Juno's call came. Yuuno nodded to Hunarn, and led the way through the new tunnel the boulder was blocking. It was just barely big enough for the shorter members of the expedition to walk into, but Yuuno noted it wasn't a natural tunnel. Maybe they had finally found it? As per the plan, he led, placing magical support struts as he went, but surprisingly it didn't take them long to reach the next cavern. As the tunnel opened up, the other members cheered quietly. Yuuno could understand them; it was mostly their dig, and they had been looking for this lost shrine for awhile. Magical torches were placed along the walls, illuminating two large central columns that stretched up to the high ceiling. He was amazed they were still intact; the clan had estimated these ruins to be over 9000 years old. They had no idea what they were used for, but there appeared to be various writings in the ancient language spread around, on tablets and etched into other columns and walls. But it would still take awhile to decipher. As the men and women spread out around him to begin setting up gantries and start the delicate excavating, Yuuno found himself drawn to the two central columns. They were very tall, and wide as well; he estimated that four or five people hugging one of them from all sides, would just barely be able to touch their fingers to each other. He knelt down, taking out a small brush to dust the dirt off a tablet at the base of one of the columns, slowly revealing the strange symbols of the language. He wanted to get a good mental imprint of it, so he could look it up in the library later, which was his secondary role here. Once the dust was clear, he traced his fingers lightly in the symbol grooves, feeling a strange sensation coming over his body. Yunno blinked and then rubbed his eyes; could those symbols be lighting up? Just to be sure he reached out with his right hand to touch them. Maybe it was some sort of pink luminescent material, that started to glow after absorbing light. He realized he might have been wrong, as the symbols got brighter and brighter, and then he was enveloped in a pink flash. “Yuuno-san, are you alright?” the Scrya archeologist heard as he blinked his eyes open. “Wh-what happened?” he asked weakly, trying to sit up. He noted he was in the medical tent on a cot. Laeva was seated next to him, looking at him with concern. “There was some sort of accident, they said, and you were brought in here. You were hurt.” Yuuno felt a sharp pain as he tried to move his right arm, finally noticing his right hand was covered in bandages. “They said you got burned by something in there,” she explained. “Elder Hunarn has issued a warning not to touch things for the moment, until they determine what kind of magic we're dealing with.” She smiled shyly. “I, um, bandaged you up, since doctor Weira is in town getting supplies and treating some people there. It didn't look too bad; it should be fine in a day or two.” Yuuno understood. Laeva was also a healer trainee to the doctor. “Thank you, Laeva-san.” He got up out of the cot, and as she walked with him out of the tent, he took note of the darkness. “How long was I out?” “About five hours,” she told him as they kept walking. “Are you feeling anything strange?” He shook his head. “Other than my hand, I seem to be alright. I think I'll turn in and get some sleep, though.” She smiled. “Okay, let me know if you have any problems.” “Will do,” he informed her as they stopped at his tent. “Good night!” “Sleep well!” He crawled into his small tent and slipped into his pajamas and sleeping bag carefully, wincing at his right arm movements. Feeling like he couldn't sleep right away, he turned to the side and opened his small photo album as he activated a simple light spell at the top of the dome tent. He didn't have many possessions that he carried around, and not much in general, but this album was special; it was full of his special memories with his friends. He leafed through it, smiling at pictures of Nanoha, Fate, and Arf taken after the Precia incident, including pictures of him as a ferret, being held by Arisa and Suzuka. Then later, Hayate and her knights. There was Admiral Lindy, Chrono, and Amy, too. Pictures of the latter's twin babies as well, which made Yuuno sigh. He may have been at odds with Chrono several times, but he envied the man's new family. The Scrya clan may have been his, but he never really felt a part of them. He spent some time dwelling on the last picture, taken 4 years ago, when he had gone to an amusement park with Nanoha. It was just the two of them, and it was the last real picture he had, before Nanoha had really gotten caught up with the TSAB and Section Six. He had wanted to say the words then, but he had chickened out. Sighing again, he closed the album and laid back, looking at his injured hand. He chuckled. [I wonder if my lifelong companion will just be my right hand.] He chuckled, then put out the light spell and went to sleep. “Um...” Yuuno moaned a bit and shifted from laying on his back to his side. “Um... Yuuno-kun...” “Mmmph,” Yuuno replied sleepily. “I don't want to get up yet, Nanoha...” He smiled happily, still in that half-awake, half-asleep mode. “Nanoha-chan...” Something prodded at the back of his brain. Something was a bit off, but he just couldn't figure it out. Oh well, he'd just ask Nanoha later, even though she was on the other side of the planet at the moment. But then how could he be hearing her now? [Just my imagination,] he thought to himself. “Yuuno-kun?” He got that strange vibe again. Blearily, he opened his eyes, then concluded he must be dreaming still, since Nanoha was looking at him, sideways. But why was she in his sleeve? And she seemed a bit... small. When did he get a Nanoha hand puppet? He blinked again, coming fully awake. Yep, his conscious mind confirmed. Nanoha's small face was poking out of his sleeve, her hands holding the edge up just below her eyes. She waved nervously at him. Yuuno shot upright. “AAAAUUUGGGGHHHH!” “Aaaaaaa!” Nanoha screamed as she was tossed around. He paused. “N-Nanoha!? When did you get so small? And why are you on my hand!?” “I-I- don't know!” she told him. “I just woke up this way!” He forced his eyes shut, taking a deep breath, then pinched his right arm, flinching, confirming that it wasn't a dream. “This isn't real, this can't be happening, this isn't real...” A sudden thought struck him. He opened his eyes again and held up his right hand, or rather, where it used to be. It was now a miniature Nanoha peeking at him from the edge of the sleeve. Afraid of the implications, he started running a finger up his right arm, slowly passing his wrist, taking note of what he could feel in his right arm. The small Nanoha got a strange look on her face, and then started to giggle. “Y-Y-uuno s-stop that t-tickles!” She unconsciously let go of the sleeve. Which fell down. Yuuno's eyes widened and he froze. “Aaaaaa!” Nanoha screamed again, pulling the sleeve back up to cover her bare chest. “Don't look!” “I...” Yuuno's brain tried to produce a sentence his mouth could use, while his nose bled a little. There was do doubt about it. Her waist was attached to his wrist. “I...” Nanoha blushed, peeking at him from his sleeve again. “Y-Yuuno-kun?” She moved his arm over and gently patted his cheek. Yuuno blinked. “Um, is that really you... Nanoha?” “I-I think so,” she replied. “Like I said, I just remember going to sleep last night, and then waking up like this. We talked right before that... right?” “Um, yeah...” he replied absently. “Yuuno-san, are you alright?” came a female voice from outside. “L-Laeva-san!” the poor boy stuttered, panicking. “I-I'm fine, just, uh, moved my hand the wrong way.” [Oh boy did I ever...] Her shadow appeared against the tent entrance, which was thankfully still zipped up. “Do you want me to take a look at it?” “N-NO!” he spat out quickly. [I can't tell anyone about this!] “I mean, it's fine!” “Okay...” she sounded unsure. “But come by later. I want to do a second checkup just to make sure everything's okay!” Yuuno let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, trying to steady his nerves. [I can't let her see this!] “Are you okay, Yuuno-kun?” Nanoha asked, concerned. “The symbols!” he said suddenly. Nanoha raised an eyebrow. “Huh?” “I touched some symbols last night at the dig, and they burned my hand,” he explained, then looked at her. “Although how that affected this, I have no idea.” “Would touching them again reverse it, then?” she asked hopefully. Yuuno sighed. “I'm not sure, but I think it might be dangerous to try at the moment. We have no idea what another hit will do to either of us. I think I should get to the library, and see if I can find some more references to this place, and those symbols. But I can't go out there like this...” He noticed the white bandage wrap laying beside his sleeping back. It must have fallen off when his hand changed into... Nanoha. He was still trying to get his mind around how THAT happened. Finding the clean parts, he broke off a good section of it, then looked at her. “Um, can you kinda wrap yourself with this for now?” he told her. “My hand was supposed to be injured and covered with bandages. I'll need to hide you for a bit until I can get out of camp.” She nodded, taking a hold of the bandage with one hand, then paused and looked at him, embarrassed. “Yuuno, cold you um, close your eyes?” He blushed and shut them quickly. “Oh, yes! Sorry!” After a bit, she let him know it was safe, so he looked again. She had wrapped some of the bandage around her torso, but also tore some of it into smaller strips to wrap up her hair and make a bit of a cap with. “That works for now,” he said approvingly, then another thought hit him. “Um, I need to get dressed now...” Nanoha smiled and nodded, then closed and covered her eyes, blushing. Yuuno sighed, wondering how he'd ever make it through the day like this. Ending Author's notes: I can't claim credit for the idea behind this. If you want to see where I got it from (and I highly recommend you do!) then watch a 13 episode romantic comedy anime called “Midori Days.” Link here: http://www.animecrunch.com/episodes/midori-days/ There's a manga of it, too, that you can read at various manga sites like www.onemanga.com. Despite it's premise, it's fairly amusing and cute. Those silly Japanese, what will they think of next... Side note: I'm experimenting with honorifics. Curious as to what other peole think about using them in the Nanohaverse. Knowing what they mean can add something, but I generally use them for fics that are more "Japanese" in nature or take place in Japan. Useful? Distracting? Don't care? |

Go Fate!
It'll be interesting to see what Alt!Vivio does for Alt!Nanoha... Quote:
But in this case, Nove and Ginga didn't grow up together, and they're not likely to have children together (or if they do, then they could have kids through Wendi to prevent the genetic problem), so most of the taboo Genya is referring to has to do with social stigma...so there's no real reason for them to not be together right? Okay....I'm gonna stop rambling now.... Anyways, nice chapter, I liked the Subaru/Ginga sister stuff

About honourifics, the Nanoverse is actually quite specific about their use. Mid Childians generally don't use them. Fate doesn't, and neither does Yuuno. Lindy uses them mostly when addressing the japanese characters. The japanese characters like Hayate and Nanoha use honourifics, but only in regards to those they met on Earth. They don't use honourifics on characters they meet on Mid, such as the Forwards and Vivio. |

So depends on mid-childa's standards. Genya was raised on mid-childa, if I remember. I think it's just his parents that came from Earth, so not sure how strongly Genya would hold that. But like Deathcurse said, there is no technical reason why they shouldn't be together. Unless Mid-childa has developed magical ways for two girls to give birth, genetics shouldn't enter into it. If nobody knows Ginga and Nove are blood-related, then no one should have a problem with it (unless they have a problem with girl/girl). Almost not sure I like Genya in this role, but not sure what exactly you're aiming for. One thing to consider, is that the cyborgs are valubale because their DNA has been tweaked to accept the implants. The TSAB may try to overtly or covertly get the cyborgs to mate with male humans, to pass on that DNA, and make more cyborgs. They are a useful anti-magic weapon, which some in the TSAB have been wanting. Perhaps Genya could have orders from higher up, to split them up and get them sent on deep-space missions where the higher ups hope they will fall for a male human and make babies. |

My problem with this is that he's a father. I can't see a father (unless he hated the relationship in the first place) agreeing to do anything of the sort to his children, even if he was ordered. I'd see Genya quitting the TSAB before he'd do something like that, since he really loves his kids.

Funny, how demonized the "higher-ups" have become.... Now I really want to read something where Hayate, Lindy or Chrono or somebody are one of those "higher ups"....(I can recall a few of those good fics )

And another short from yours truly! Co-written with Deathcurse this time around. Basically we've had this short RP going back and forth in PM for awhile with Vivio and Lutecia, and Vivio made a comment about how she convinces Lutecia to snuggle with her to relax. We then wondered, and this was born.
I apologize if it jumps around a bit. Spoiler for Routine (slight NSFW):
Vivio hated how well they knew their routine.
These situations usually started right after her school let out. Vivio would run to catch Caro and Erio at the cafe before they left for work, and the three of them would make the most of time, catching up on several days worth of events in a mere half-hour. Then Lutecia would arrive, having just woken up after her late-night missions. And more often than not, her Cia wasn't entirely in one piece. Caro would start their routine off. It was always Caro who made a worried comment, Caro who would badger and bug Lutecia about her injuries. Lutecia would just shrug it off and gently shoot her friend down with a laugh, a joke, a smile, playing off just how cut up she was. Erio would speak up then, quietly, voicing his own worries and thoughts, and Lutecia would become just as soft-spoken to match him. Vivio didn't start her round until Lutecia went home with her. Today was particularly brutal; Lutecia had a noticeable limp in her gait, winced every other step, and had several bandages along her midsection and legs. She'd already fended off Caro and Erio, and was following Vivio home. "Did he really do that?" Lutecia asked with a small smile. She looked exhausted, but still had enough spark to contribute to the idle swinging of their joined hands. "It was so embarrassing," Vivio lamented, subtly shortening her strides to keep Lutecia from straining her limp. "My math teacher was ill, and the substitute was one of the Church factions who've been worshiping the Sankt Kaiser for centuries instead of following the modern doctrines." She had tried to suggest to Lutecia that they should call a cab home, but her girlfriend had waved that off, protesting that they had more time together if they walked. Any more and Lutecia would have noticed the coddling, and get even more passively defensive. Lutecia smirked. "And he called you out right in class." "Yes! I hated it! He was all stuttering and 'Yes Your Majesty' and 'No Your Majesty' and 'I'm sorry Your Majesty, but that answer is incorrect'..." Vivio grimaced. "It was like he expected me to strike him down for teaching me!" "Well, to him you're a god," Lutecia pointed out gently. "He isn't the only one. Plenty of the people in the Church and even outside it view you with awe and respect." "I wonder how horrified they'd be if they heard me swearing?" Chuckling, Lutecia squeezed her hand. "Swearing would probably become part of holy prayers." Vivio laughed. "The Church would get more teenage followers, I'm sure!" Lutecia laughed as well, but cut herself off in a series of coughs, one hand moving to brace her ribs with a wince. "Cia?" Vivio was by her side in an instant, eyes wide and concerned, her touch gentle. "I'm fine." Lutecia smiled shakily, wanting to soothe her girlfriend. "Really. I just... bruised ribs." She grimaced. "Not even broken, but they really hurt. I got hit during my mission last night." Carefully slipping an arm around Lutecia's waist, Vivio pulled her closer, draping Lutecia's arm over her shoulder while still holding her hand. As she had hoped, the change in posture eased the other girl's breathing, stilling the coughs. And even better, Vivio took some of the weight off Lutecia's injured leg. Of course, the closer contact that sent shivers through all of Vivio's voluntary muscles was just a bonus. "Uh... Vi..." Vivio couldn't see Lutecia's face clearly because of her position, but their faces were close together, enough for her to feel the heat of the older woman's blush. "You, um, don't have to do this." "It's fine." Vivio shrugged. "We're almost home, anyway, so it isn't much farther. I don't mind." "But..." Lutecia had felt her girlfriend shiver, and she could relate to it perfectly. "Right..." Walking was difficult when your legs were quivering like Jell-O and random sensations interrupted your thoughts--the new shampoo Lutecia used, the slight dampness of her breathing by Vivio's cheek, the soft and thrilling warmth of skin pressed to skin-- "Vi?" Vivio blushed. "Um...where was I?" Lutecia couldn't even laugh because she was just as distracted by the sensations as Vivio was; she just did a better job of hiding. "You, uh, almost walked past your house." Vivio pouted briefly. Had the walk home always been so short before? During all this, Lutecia was saying every prayer she knew. If Nanoha saw her like this...but luckily as Vivio unlocked her door the alarm went off, meaning Nanoha and Fate were still at work. "I can help you cook dinner, if you like," Lutecia offered. Vivio hesitated, just a moment. "Actually," her voice sounded kind of odd, and Lutecia turned to look at her bemusedly. "Can we just chill on the couch for a bit? I...pulled a muscle in training today." Immediately, Lutecia guided them over to the 3-seat couch, scolding the younger girl gently, "You should have told me sooner." Sitting both of them down, Lutecia ran her hands over Vivio's arms worriedly. "Where did you hurt yourself?" "Ah..." Vivio's eyes went blank for a minute. "I, uh... think I pulled a muscle in my arm or something. Yeah." "Which one?" Again, Vivio seemed dazed before answering, "Uh...my right one." Firmly massaging Vivio's right arm, starting with her finely developed deltoid, Lutecia sighed. "You shouldn't push yourself too hard...all you Takamachis are so stubborn!" She complained fondly. "Uh, yeah." Vivio swallowed and hoped it wasn't audible as Lutecia gently dug her fingers into her skin in soothing circular motions. "You're.... you're good at this, Cia." Lutecia laughed softly. "I've had practice with some of my friends and teammates at work. It's a nice way to relieve stress when you still have to work a few hours." She wasn't complaining either, Vivio was nicely developed for her age. Slim and muscular, with just the right build and--- Where are your thoughts going, hmmm? "Cia?" Starting, Lutecia winced as her ribs protested that sudden movement. "What was I saying?" "Massaging your teammates," answered Vivio, with what Lutecia recognized as a hint of jealousy in her voice. Amused, Lutecia switched to rubbing Vivio's skin with her palms, trying to generate enough friction heat to ease her muscles. "It's pretty important to keep limber during stakeouts, since there's nothing worse than having to chase your target after sitting for 5 hours in a van." Vivio blinked. "That's it?" Lutecia laughed softly. "Pretty much. Though I've gotten an offer or two from some of my more... outgoing.... teammates." Vivio scowled, looking impossibly cute. "Offers?" Even more amused, Lutecia got up to get a hot pack for her. "Don't worry Vi, everyone knows I'm already taken," she winked. "They're just a little wild at times, that's all." "Then why do they ask?" Vivio grumbled. "I don't know. For fun, I guess, or maybe they get it in their heads that I'll dump you for some person I barely know." A brazen few had gone so far as to approach Lutecia because they knew her girlfriend was 'still too young to offer you much, hehehe'. Lutecia would sooner go to the grave than tell that to Vivio, though. Reaching up into the cupboard where she knew the Takamachi-Harlaowns kept their medical supplies (nearly twice as large as any other household's medical cabinet, military family and all), Lutecia caught her breath as her insides complained fiercely at the motion. Gritting her teeth, she quickly grabbed one of the hot packs and caught the edge of the counter, breathing deeply to prevent herself from yelling out. Vivio put her elbows on the back of the couch, watching Lutecia worriedly. "Hey Cia, the massage really helped...I don't think that I need a hot pack after all. Why don't you come back over here?" "But..." "I'm fine, really." Vivio sat up, her concern only growing. "I'm not as badly hurt as you are. You should be the one resting, not me." Lutecia laughed softly, coughing and grimacing. "You think so?" "Yeah. Come back. Please?" Vivio's voice softened, became pleading. "I'm fine, I swear. Just come back. I don't want you to feel worse because you're trying to help me." "I'm alright, really," Lutecia lied lamely. She knew that Vivio wouldn't believe her, but the impulse to lie was so ingrained in her now, the falsehood came out nearly automatically. "I'm not," Vivio pouted, looking coyly at Lutecia through her eyelashes. "I'm feeling all alone here....without my girlfriend to cuddle...." Where had she learned to do that? Lutecia wondered weakly. She'd never done it before. "Vivio, I just..." Vivio pouted. And Lutecia's excuses crumbled. Vivio smiled brightly when Lutecia slid back into her arms. Leaning back, she coaxed Lutecia into reclining as well, spooned against her. She was careful where she placed her arms, feeling the imprints of bandages under Lutecia's shirt, sending a pang through her heart with every small flinch her girlfriend tried to hide when Vivio accidentally put pressure on a bruise. Kissing Lutecia's cheek, Vivio murmured, "See, doesn't that feel much better?" "Yeah..." Lutecia had to admit it was a nice change from before. She'd been on her feet all night and practically all day, only taking the time to grab a few hours of sleep before heading out to meet her friends and girlfriend. On top of that, Vivio was as gentle as she could possibly be; it was hard to do something right now that wouldn't hurt Lutecia, but the fact that Vivio was still trying so hard was sweet. Very gently, Lutecia reached out and squeezed Vivio's hand, which was resting against her stomach due to their position. "You really are sweet," she murmured. "Of course I am," Vivio teased, keeping her voice low and smooth, hoping to lull Lutecia into taking a nap. "I've got the best girlfriend in the world, after all." A surge of guilt made Lutecia tense. Concerned, Vivio rubbed at Lutecia's stiffened shoulders and neck. "Cia?" When it doubt, lie. It was practically instinct now. "Ah, sorry, it's nothing." Lutecia sighed and forced herself to relax, no matter how good it felt to have Vivio's hands on her shoulders and neck. "Just the way you said that... kind of reminded me of what the guys at work said. Made me angry, I guess." Well, it was a half lie, in any case. Vivio felt something a little off about that, but Lutecia didn't seem too upset so she let it go. She kept rubbing Lutecia's shoulders, trying to channel her affection to the other girl. "Want me to go beat them up for you?" Lutecia chuckled, her eyes closing, just for a moment. "That's alright, Vi." "I don't mind. Really." Lutecia laughed and opened her eyes, looking up at her girlfriend. "You're too good to beat them up, Vivio. I can handle them on my own. Ignoring them isn't too hard." Vivio grinned and snuggled tighter with Lutecia, prompting the purple-haired summoner to lean her head back. She continued with her soothing massage, working the knots out of her girlfriend's shoulders. "I want you to promise me that if you have a bad time at work, you'll come early for extra snuggle time, okay?" she whispered in Lutecia's ear. Shivering from the sensation, Lutecia closed her eyes again. "I know what you're doing, Vi," she accused lazily. "Oh?" Vivio blinked innocently. "What am I doing?" "You're trying to coddle me again." Lutecia sighed, right now she had a hard time complaining. It felt good to be touched like this, to snuggle with Vivio like this. "So?" Vivio nuzzled closer, smirking when she felt Lutecia shiver again. "I don't like seeing you hurt, Cia." Lips on her ear--there goes her higher mental functioning. "Uh..." Vivio shifted slightly, and suddenly there was more body contact between them. "It makes me sad when you're hurt, Cia, and when you don't rest properly..." Lutecia's brain power had decided that this particular moment in time would be perfect for taking a coffee break, and common sense was soon following it. As if sensing that she was wavering, Vivio innocently went back to her ear, not doing much of anything, really; just giving it gentle, loving nips. Lutecia drew in an abrupt breath, her hand clenching around Vivio's convulsively. Tortuously, Vivio's other hand slid underneath Lutecia's shirt, continuing to massage her back while avoiding the bandages. Lutecia didn't dare say a word. For as far as she was going, Vivio was doing nothing to indicate that her thoughts ran further than just soothing her girlfriend and teasing her. Her hand stayed on her back, even if it was under her shirt, and her lips never moved past her ear. Okay, the safest solution Lutecia could arrive at (with diminished cognitive functioning) was for her to stay very still and do nothing. Vivio's ministrations felt really good, not just in the physical sense--her touch brought Lutecia into a hazy, safe place... She blinked, the haze clearing slightly. Maybe she'd just imagined it, but she could have sworn that... She froze. Nope. She wasn't imagining it. Vivio had finally gathered her courage and moved her lips lower, from Lutecia's ear to her neck. Almost against her will, Lutecia shivered and fought back a whimper. Vivio could feel Lutecia's heart pounding against her arm. She knew that her own was beating rapidly as she trailed her lips down Lutecia's smooth skin, slipping her hand out from under Lutecia's shirt to trail down her thigh. Lutecia shivered again, and this time she couldn't bite back the shaky whimper. For the moment Vivio seemed content, lips against her neck and a hand resting on her thigh, and the older woman wondered if that was it, and felt twin surges of relief and disappointment. "SooOO," Lutecia squeaked, quickly placing her hand on top of Vivio's fingers, keeping them from moving anywhere on her leg, "How about a nap huh? I'm kind of tired..." Lutecia felt Vivio pout against her neck, but the younger girl sighed and relaxed. "Can I just stay as I am right now?" she asked. "If it doesn't make you uncomfortable, Cia. I like being close to you like this." Lutecia nodded rapidly. Congratulating herself on a job well done, Vivio cuddled in close with Lutecia, timing her breathing to match Lutecia's. After a moment, Vivio smirked against Lutecia’s neck. “Ne, Cia…” “Hmm?” “I didn’t hear you complaining.” Spoiler for Author's Notes:
1. Quick note, this is pre-Shadow, so Vivio is, at the youngest, sixteen.
2. Not much to earn a full NSFW rating, but I marked it as slightly just because of Vivio's active hands and I didn't want to get in trouble. 3. I had to rewrite the last few lines off the top of my head, because I accidentally deleted the PM I sent to Deathcurse. God, I'm bad. 4. Ah, ah, no lemon for you! .... Not yet, anyway, maybe... >>;; Writing with DC was fun.
