atheist...I think. My friend and I(as weird as this is gonna sound to you) believe that "God" was an alien ruler of an ancient empire. It goes into greater detail that sorta explains it but I don't have time to go into it. So yeah not sure if that makes me atheist or not.

As for myself? I was atheist for a while, but I eventually saw the light, so to speak, and formulated my own religion. And I'm actively recruiting members.

All opinions regardinggod/the afterlife could technically be considered a religion, couldn't they? That said, i have to agree that Atheism is a religion.

Many courts have said atheism is a religion, oh and I'm a christian. Yet I disagree with the church on many things. Oh and who resurrected this thing.

Buddhism is a borderline case, honestly. Depending on the particular denomination or indeed the region, the condition varies. Buddhism is mixed with local traditions in China and Japan which clearly possess elements of the supernatural, minor gods, heavens, hells, and all, while the "Buddha" figure has been treated in practice in many ways, from a philosophical leader to a god, or as they like in the West, some sort of obscure New Age influence thing. And of course, karma doesn't work quite nearly as well with just one life to go through.

Cue praying to "Buddha" for lottery wins. You don't usually pray for Socrates for that kind of help. You don't worship him either.

In any case, acknowledgment of the supernatural (and usually, but not always, an afterlife -- see Judaism for a major exception) is the cornerstone of a religion, not necessarily acknowledgment of a monotheistic Judeo-Christian-Islamic God.

That is what makes atheism not a religion, so you people (not the person I quoted) should stop bs'ing before my head explodes in frustration. One guy doesn't believe there's actually something behind the incense, that doesn't make that guy a member of the Church of Atheism or some such idiocy. We've had this argument before in this very thread, so really now.

The original Indian Buddhist philosophy does not have a belief in any personal God. The core philosophy of Buddhism doesn't, but when you speak of traditions or superstitions, that goes further into culture. There are probably many Christian superstitions which don't directly reflect the tenants of Christianity.

My religion is humanism.
