Mass Effect Movie

They are finally going to do it people. They are going to touch on the sci-fi CRPG.

The Mass Effect movie is in the works!

My little fanboy is quivering in fear of how this will turn out.

Please be civil as well, this is a 'expectations and review' thread. Nothing else, this is to facilitate the Mass Effect Movie, which should be discussed here.

Don't be disruptive or too off-topic, if you would kindly avoid being such. If you have solid information that is accurate, true, and has a link that confirms this -- it would be appreciated if you would share.

Sharing videogame footage is alright, but don't do it incessantly so. You can do it if you connect it to the anticipation you feel, or what you would like to see in the movie.

Additional: Credit goes to killer3000ad for link.

I'm not looking forward to this one, unless they present it in a really good way. I think I prefer shepard digital

I am looking forward to it, half the cast will be CGI
Though I will only be satisfied if they were going to use the Avatar technique.
News has been around for the last couple days =)

Whaa~?!

Best news in a while. But they'll never reach the amazing quality the trilogy has. Still, thanks for spreading the info.

Im a big fan of the game currently on my 3rd play through of the 2nd game. I must admit this is interesting, as Mass Effect has the perfect story line for true Sci-Fi movie. But its going to be all in how its implemented. Im not worried about the special effects i have no doubt those will be top notch. But script, cast and actually presentation will either make or break this movie.

Most likely i will end up going to see anyway.

I am more interested in the budgetary concerns. You can tell how well a movie is going to do by it's budget (Or an estimate of how well it does anyways).

I'm afraid that is the reason why I'm worried for this one. Mass Effect has always been in essence - An epic project. Them making a movie of one of the best modern CRPGs is quite the task.

Not much expectation until I see more. Then again do I want to see more? As I previously said this is a large task, and they will cut corners to make it smaller - that is how Hollywood operates. Cutting corners.

Oh well, I'll give it a chance. Though I'm not expecting much until I see plausibly good results.

If they do this right, I just might die of the sheer awesome.

If they screw it up.... well, let's just say I wouldn't be surprised. They better pick someone good to play Shepard.

That being said, given the people that are working on this film...

Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni have acquired the film rights to the game and will produce the movie along with former Marvel Studios honcho Avi Arad and his son Ari Arad. BioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk will serve as executive producers, as will Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson. Warner Bros. will distribute the film.
I expect this to be good. Very good. With multiple sequels.

Half of the movie will be shot in the citadel elevator.

Kidding aside, Of all of the Bioware Ip's I would think that KotR would be the best to translate to film since the story is complex yet still easy to digest whereas although mass effect naratively is interesting, most of the enteratinment really did stem from the game play and less the story. Still depends on how they portray shepard.

The funny thing is, I could very well imagine Seth Green, the voice actor for Joker, the Normandy's pilot, actually getting the role in this movie. Would be awesome if that happened. He has a bit of resemblance.

That said, who do you think would get the main roles in the movie? You know, Shepard, Anderson, the whole Normandy crew, ... .

Yeah, but KOTOR is Star Wars, and so getting the rights to it would be... difficult. It was a great game, but somehow I doubt its ability to translate well into a linear storyline, given the not only the length of the game but the running around quests involved in some of the main quests.

It would be nice if they would get Seth Green for Joker. I've noticed a resemblance as well, and it would fit well considering.

As for the movie production I'm glad to see Legendary Pictures having a shot at this.

Their respective models? Probably not since that would cost a good deal of money, but it's nice to dream

Still worried about the budget. Still worried... Can't help but be worried. This may very well be epic, and to quote Insanity:

from the reviews I heard it was just a summer flick, and the fact that they supposedly repeated what the dagger did everychance they got, and what they needed to do just seems like the target demo was much younger than the 20-48 demographic i fall into.

My thoughts would more concern to the actors...

But I will watch it regardless of previews and such. (^-^)

Yeeeeees, heard about it, and I was overjoyed. I really love the game franchise, and if they play their cards right, they can do something spectacular. I'm already salivating about all the scenery, oh my inner geek.

only downfall is, that if they decide to go with Shepard as the main character, he is gonna be male I want a female Shepard aaaaar, and let her make out with a hot asari chick to even things out

They should get Seth Green to star as Joker. And they should get the original voice actors to play the alien characters like Garrus. It would really help the authenticity of the movie. One would think the directors are on top of this, but I can only hope...
