Why Ange runs around almost-naked? Well, she has a dorm, which Browning insists that she uses.

Then inspiration hits in the middle of the night.

Ange sleeps almost commando.

She runs thru the school yelling random gibberish to herself while headed for the lab, without bothering to change.

Passing girls get freaked out.

Legend begins after she does that several times.

"I once knew a girl from my town. The townspeople called her Racchy. That town was a rough one. You wouldn't grow up there without learning how to win a fight or two. That town was divided clearly between the Haves and the Havenots; you can guess where Racchy came from.

"The other side of town was a factory. The world's biggest, most advanced thingamajig of its kind. In that factory lived a boy who lost his parents, and inherited both the factory and his parents' brains."

"His name was Stark," Ange added.

Browning nodded.

"Huey, he was called. That boy's home was no home, and he ran away many times. Being foreign to the other side, he eventually got into trouble with a local mob. As I watched, Racchy went in. Maybe because he wasn't from around there. Either way, she saved his ass, though said kid still had his face rearranged.

"Huey and Racchy had nothing in common, save one thing: both wanted to get out of that town. So they kept a jig together, running around town, went to school, got into more trouble. They were at that age after all. Huey was the brain, Racchy was the muscle. Together, they ruled the streets. For a moment, wasting their time in that place didn't seem half bad."

"Then they got into really big trouble..."

"Really?" Huey said, the air draining out of him as he fell into a ripped beanie.

Racchy drew her legs around herself, even more self-conscious.

"So you're not only dumb, rude, your also deaf now? Great."

He kept on gaping like a goldfish.

"...I'm sorry. I shouldn't have."

Racchy buried her face in her knees.

"Screw you."

"You certainly did." Huey replied then trailed off.

Racchy suddenly raised her head.

"I'm going to abort."

Huey's eyes went wide. "What? Are you sure?"

"No! No I'm not sure!" She cried. "But... I'm only 15... I can't finish high school like this... I can't leave this rotting place like this..."

He came over and buried her in embrace. "This is my fault, so I won't let you choose. "

He knelt down and looked her straight in the eye.

"I have money. I have space. I'll take care of the baby. You go get your degree, and we'll meet up again. You clear?"

It was just the usual. He came up with the plan, she followed it.

"As if I can trust the most annoying gigolo on this."

Without pausing, he declared, "Racchy, trust me."

The normally loud Racchy just buried her face in his chest and whimpered.

"A year passed. Doctors got some oath of silence when it comes to this, so nobody went to jail. A baby angel came into the world, and the boy took her into his private sanctum. Racchy got her high school pass, then joined the only school that would take her in: the Army."

"Even more years would go by. Racchy was finally moving up in the world. She got her own command, became part of the Joes, had the time of her life kicking bad guy asses. Then when she came home, she'd return to that dreaded town, and stand on the fenced factory walls, waiting."

"Come in!" Huey insisted. "She's getting to that questioning age now, I can't keep coming with with weird and wonderful stories about you!"

"No." Racchy answered flatly. She spied a small chestnut-headed figure playing with a flying ball deep in the compound.

"My job takes me everywhere. I can't have her become attached to me."

"You stubborn witch."

"You philandering playboy."

And they both laughed.

"And then, as though a carpet had rolled before her, IS was invented. The Army was transformed overnight, and Racchy shot to almost the top of the food chain. Even then, she wasn't the best pilot in the Joes, or in the Air Force even. But to her surprise, someone requested her to be part of the US Army Developmental Task Force, personally."

"And so, there was Huey, about to make the biggest killing in his entire career, a 10 year contract to make IS for the best army in the world. And she was to be his guinea pig."

"Just like old times?" Stark raised a toast.

"Shut up." Racchy smirked and clinked her glass against his.

Both people turned to face the holographic schematics projected into the vast dining hall.

"How... flimsy." Racchy remarked.

"Don't give me that," Huey replied. "That thing runs on forcefields. Really weird and wonderful stuff, even for me."

He took another sip.

"You ready for tomorrow?"

"Yup."

"Once this is over... Will you come home with me?"

She raised an eyebrow at the prospect.

"Depends."

"Okay, let's see..." Stark said. "Look at those prototypes. What do you see?"

"Hmm... Big wings, [Iron Maiden], [Gospel], [Testament]... Wait a minute, did you really make these things?!"

"Ever wondered why Stark, the most atheist, amoral, unremorseful man on the planet, chose to name all his IS after Biblical references?"

"You got me there."

He smiled. "They're all for my little Ange."

Racchy had to smile. That was clever.

"It never came to be. A force we now know as Ea attacked the testing grounds, killed almost everyone. The Avengers mobilized, but against a force of IS, even they came up short."

"SHOOT!!" Huey roared, his ragged exoskeleton sparking where the plates had been ripped free. The Iron Man did well to hold down the massive Golem IS, but the suit was giving way, slowly.

"I-I can't!!" Racchy screamed, half-mad with pain. Her unit [Testament] was almost completely beat up, and the Nuclear Cannon was her last weapon.

"Rachet, fire that cannon!" Nick roared over the intercomm. "If that thing gets loose we'd lose the entire Eastern seaboard!!"

Racchy refused.

"Come on, Huey! Think of something! Hurry!!"

"Okay, Racchy, listen. Just promise me one thing."

"What?"

"Take care of Ange for me."

"She couldn't pull the trigger, so I did."

Browning folded her wings behind her and turned to Ange.

"I killed Rachet and Howard Stark, then fled to the ISA."

Silence.

"I have no right to have anything to do with you, but they made me anyway."

Silence.

"So, now you know." Rachel shrugged. "That cannon of yours has a max setting of how many kilotons? I won't activate my shields. It's time to accepted responsibility for making you an orphan."

Ange looked at her buster cannon.

"Tempting preposition."

She stowed her weapon.

"But I got a better idea."

Ange strolled past Browning and looked into the orange setting sun.

"How about we... do a little pretend?"

"What?" Rachel wondered aloud.

"You pretend to be Rachet Stark, and I'll pretend to be a good girl."

Ange turned around.

"We'll do that for a day, and we'll call it even. How's that?"

"How's that even fair?"

"Life isn't fair, Miss Browning," Ange said. "Don't expect me to make an exception."

Rachel just let herself flop to the ground and throw her head back laughing.

"Damn you, Huey..."

"So just so you know, Dad is not dead. Tank cannon or nuclear cannon, the Iron Man is indestructible. So I'm gonna find him, then haul him home for a good spanking."

"Fine by me."

"Okay then. Alle-oop!"

A flurry of metal feathers fell into Browning’s lap. Ange curled her wings around herself and leaned on her shoulders.

"Erm...?"

"Didn't you know? The day started 5 mins ago." Ange said through her wraps.

Rachel gave up, then closed her wings around herself, making sure to keep her hatchling comfortably within.

@ Meistah - That's sad It's a bit confusing but I get the gist of it. I wonder if Papa Stark's still alive.

I have never seen an english woman before so I'm not very sure and I'm neither a physician nor am I a pervert(???). If anything I believe Cecilia's above average. Houki on the other hand makes girls her age of her nationality with "gifts given" cry at the injustice.

Just reread it and released I made A LOT of errors. And there's that nagging feeling that I went and butchered everyone's characters.

Rahel was refering to herself in third person. I was trying to convey the psychological defense mechanism she used to survive that incident.

I was also hinting that Browning worked in GI Joe (she called them Joes) since the Joes and the Avengers are in the same Marvel universe.

That aside, I also feel like Ange was acting too cute for who she usually is. I rationalized it to be the true self beneath the haughty persona she goes by. Also, she hasn't grown up since she had not gone thru what Tony had. So this deal was actually the real Ange that's lonely and childish coming to the surface. But not sure if that's what you guys think.

Bonds are the true power of people. Ange would go back to her normal crazy snarky self after a day, but I hope she'd grow a little too, and carry 1 less burden. Like the rest of my fanon, I wanted to show that killing everyone isnt the only way to further character development.


@eras I am thinking of changing it to 29 permanently.

@ Meister - Really? Then how do I have Irish not kill the person who sent him at the camp? I know it's his mother, but it's kind of hard to let go of the fact that she's still one of the main reasons he was there and broke him.

na, Irish has it built in to him from the ground up. To do otherwise is just silly.

I set everything up the way they are, try to keep the hopeful theme going, and try to keep it interesting. ISve made it such that the grim Irish is the exception rather than the rule, and that I believe keeps the setting grounded.

I'm writing like that because theres a lot of grimdark around. So dont you all go light on me all of a sudden andhave me out of job lol!

Bottomline however, we all have stories to tell. Some like it black, others like it white. I like it ridiculously campy.

I realized a huge plothole in chapter 3... Charlotte announces herself as a girl... Dunois should be taking some serious heat... Charlotte stays at ISA under technicality of her not being affiliated with France or Dunois by unanimous territorial law... ISA field day for IS testing on the beach she is still sent a [packet]/additional IS equipment...

It makes some sort of sense when I think about it but it feels like that's a loose end right there somewhere.

EDIT:Okay so it might not be THAT huge.

@ demino_hellsin - They want to keep up appearances. If Charlotte reveals herself as a girl and Dunoa still sends her tech then they look they have nothing to do with her crossdressing and it was just a quirk of hers. That or they're just biding their time till she graduates and her protection runs out.

That's equally embarassing as they've been putting Charles up as poster boy for Dunois. Even if they deny relations and say that they were fooled, the fact that IS examinations, which are supposed to be really intensive and thorough, were fooled... These examinations were done by Dunois no less.
