This makes me think that they want to fail.

Well, they can call it the 'wii-wii' if they want, but I won't.
I'm boycotting their name.
Maybe I'll get a Revolution, but I won't be getting a wii.

That is what hype is about, so sorry if I don't buy it. They probably said the exactly same words when N64 and NGC were published. In fact, the initial game-selection was pretty decend in the case of N64, but look what happened.

Revolution was just a code name. People knew they would give it a real name back in 2005. It's like, Dreamcast once had a code name, back in the late 90's, it was Katana.

The bathroom jokes aren't really funny with this anymore (already seen plenty

What will be funny is when you see headlines like "Wii gets Madden". It'll sound like ebonics.

The name... well, all I can say is nintendo could probably do better. As long as the software continues to flow I doubt there will be too much problem. Still, it is the first system I can remember that probably won't gain an acronym like SNES, N64, GB, GBA, GCN, SP, DS.

Strikes me as odd that they didn't launch the press release from a more name appropriate site. I don't think anything but that flash video is on their news site, yet it got launched at http://revolution.nintendo.com/ rather than say http://wii.nintendo.com/ It almost seems like their own in house staff can't decide what names they should be using for their own system.

It is interesting that http://wii.nintendo.com/ doesn't exist. That is another clue that the name "Wii" is just a joke or stunt that Nintendo is playing. Come E3 there'll be a new name for this system.

Some things seemingly indicate that. The name could be Wii, but maybe there is a 'real' name to be revealed at E3.

Why reveal a mock up name right before E3? Well, this name sure does have people all over the web talking about the system, right before showtime at E3. More focus is on the system now. Could be a marketing ploy.

Keep in mind this is just speculation. It's a good idea to expect the name to be Wii. If a name change comes, it comes.

I read on Slashdot that Nintendo replied about not having trademarked the name yet. They said that they're on it, and that it takes time.

Though for a sub-domain I doubt it'd take time...

Well, it may be worth mentioning that there is no http://gamecube.nintendo.com/... there's no http://ds.nintendo.com/ or http://gameboy.nintendo.com/ either... seems like the revolution site is just a one-off thing.

True, but you can get those at http://www.nintendo.com/channel/gba http://www.nintendo.com/channel/gcn and http://www.nintendo.com/channel/ds though there is no http://www.nintendo.com/channel/wii
