Well, if you go by all other official artwork that depicts those two always together - and Itsuki in particular a little too chummy with Kyon - it's perfectly par for the course.

If the series goes beyond a tenth novel I hope a future installment focuses on Itsuki. Not that he's my favorite character, but he deserves exposure.

You mean the い and　ン? You can say it is a different font, I guess. It is not the first time I see it like that. It is like it was writen with a brush and this connection was "accidental".
