I'm not sure how I feel about the new Anos... definitely an adjustment. Its just not the same swagger as before.

Agreed. The new voice will take a lot of getting used to. Honestly, one of the worst recasts I've seen in a very long time.

But, aside from that, I barely remember anything from the end of the last season so I'm kind of lost here. Anyway, good to have this show back. Hopefully they can make it as fun as season 1.

So...am I catching vibes from Great Spirit Mother Leno (Kana Asumi) and Anos' loyal right hand man Shin? Anos assigns Shin to be her bodyguard, his stoic demeanor contrasted with her energy and cuteness, and their companionship seems to have meant a lot to Leno in the end even after Anos pulled his sacrifice play. Also, there's a young Anos with a different name? Huh ?

Yeah, there seems to be a fair amount of ship tease between the two. We already have a side couple, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get another with Shin's reincarnation and the spirit.
Looks like even gods fail at being a threat for Anos, as expected from the Demon King of Tyranny. Speaking of Anos, while the new voice sounds of course different, I have to admit that it's not as bad as I feared.

Now that I've seen episode 1, I still have no major problem with Anos' new voice whatsoever. I can adapt to it as easily as drinking a new brand of black tea . Contrary to what others believe, Anos' voice role is pretty interchangable to me, and the new guy did a good job.

Now that the voice non-issue is outta the way, this episode really wasted no time and I like it. I see that Reno got herself a little bit of makeover from S1. She's more finely-designed now with more detailed crystals hovering on her back. Meanwhile, Shin appears older than the previous season 🤔. Anyway, I've been begging for more Shin since S1 so I'm happy with this episode & hoping for more.

A battle-of-wits challenge should be interesting. This probably won't happen but I can't help but imagining that the challenge will be more like "Game of Darkness" from YGO where the loser will suffer ultimate despair & eternal torture. Atem would approve

Umehara is a very poor replacement for Suzuki who played Anos to perfection during S1. It's like he isn't even trying, he has one tone which is overly serious and that's it. And overly serious isn't really part of Anos' character. That said, it didn't actually bother me as much as I thought it would. I'll probably be used to it in a few eps.

This is kind of par of the course for this show, but I'm not used to anime episodes being this packed. More happened in one episode than in entire seasons of other shows

Indeed. When a great number of the audience who didn't follow the VA news didn't even notice the difference or have no problem with it, you know that the new guy did a good job + Anos is not exactly Don Vito Corleone-calibur role.

Agreed! Thankfully the episode had so much going on I could mostly ignore it. Anos just curb stomping everyone as usual. Love to see it.

That kind of surprises me because it stands out so much to me and in other forums I've been too. But I guess your mileage may vary .

I do think Umehara is doing the best he can...even if it is just him using his typical Umehara voice .

Forums are mostly frequented by avid anime-followers like us. If you want a taste of how anime-casuals react to this episode, watch the reactors on YT. Many of them don't really care about seiyuus let alone following their news or having seiyuu-bias. And you don't hear much complaints from them. Heck, a bunch of them didn't even notice the difference in Anos' new voice. That's not counting anime followers like me who also don't mind it.

At the end of the day, the new Anos voice is not worth making a fuss about. There are other more important things to talk about like the 4 Kings, ShinxReno & the Anosh brat 😏.

But the most important thing is: where is Anos Mama?? 🤤

Are you kidding me? The difference between the new and old voice is jarring! The new voice sounds more like a butler than a demon lord!

It's not like I can do anything about it though, and it's a good thing there's enough interesting plot in here to distract me from that VA change.

I was worried they'd run out of villains after giving Kanon the main villain status back in s1, looks like we're fighting literal gods this season, not to mention other demon lords

There should have been a scene with Anos' parents, but they already adapted it at the end of season one. I guess we'll have to wait a bit until Anos mops the floor with the four kings minions and goes back home, possibly with a new girl, in order to see another fun reaction from mom.

So many new characters with absurd names. Let's hope they last longer than the flash of the namecards that introduced them.
And maybe since we just dove into plot straight away, there's not enough time to show more of Anos' new voice. At least his other fun side when he quips/flirts with the Necron sisters, just does things peacefully or show off his OPness. For now I reserve my judgment for Umehara's Anos.

And I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Since when are the ignorant masses always right?

The point is, Umehara's Anos is hardly a problem for a lot (if not most) of the audience. And honestly, I'm getting tired of people repeating the same complaint here ever since Suzuki got fired & Umehara replaced him. It's like those people who like to bring up Watsuki's porn case whenever Rurouni Kenshin is brought up.

Isn't there a rule in this forum about not repeating the same complaint again & again or something?

S1 was long ago, and it was bad, so of course I don't remember how Anos sounded. The only reason I know he has a new voice is because of how many people write about it. I thought it was good.
People here seem to have amazing memory (or mine is just really poor).

I mean, I think it's fair to bring up a recasting since it's literally the main characters' voice and it's a significant part of the character, and discussing Umehara's take on Anos, but your mileage may vary.

It's definitely a bit off. There's no avoiding it. Changing a voice that defined the show like the original VA for Anos just is going to be awkward. Umehara is fine and I think that's about as good a replacement as you are going to get anyways. There just isn't the same level of swagger there. Moments like utterly smoking that god just doesn't have the same punch since there isn't the same energy there.

If mentioning that is going to bother people...there's an ignore button. I'm not going to pretend it isn't an issue or that it doesn't impact the episode. This isn't replacing the VA of the teacher that got kidnapped at the end of the episode. It's a noticeable and significant difference in the main character of the series. It's going to come up.

But again, the first episode overall was fine. The rest of the cast is back so that helps ease the first episode in. And everyone is picking up from where they left off. Nice little moments like Sasha getting embarrassed right out of the gate which was cute.

And setting up plenty of activity and mystery right away. The whole Child of God thing is curious, although I'm sure it won't really be an issue for Anos later. And splitting up the cast to make them take care of their own issues works pretty well. Though man, Kanon really messed up on this one. Out there to protect your love interest and she gets stabbed faster than you can react. Hero needs to get back to training it seems .

Focus on that Goddess early on was good too. Obviously has plot relevance and can guess at where things are going. But will be interesting to actually see it play out.
