riful and dauf were in love. and we know love is eternal and breaks all obstacles. their awakenings were no match for their love. so Riful (and dauf) is a special case, in that she has always cared about him.

Roflmao, I really doubt that. She's always annoyed and fed up with him and his idiocy. Odds are the "love" grew unconsciously throughout time and their experiences(failures) together.

Priscilla hasn't forgotten Raki; the fact she still brings him up shows that. Regardless of whether or not she left him for dead, because she can't help him, because he told her to leave, or whatever, she still remembers him.

Which means that Raki still remains her achilles heel like kenshin says; perhaps not to the same degree as before, but he's got the best chance of getting through to her.

However, maybe he won't remember her. Who knows what the Org will do to him; they have experience with mental conditioning with Alicia and Beth and though he has a strong will, they are bound to try to tamper with his mind and his memories.

um... usually this is a female's weird way that they express their love... by being mean to a guy (though, guys who like girls too, are often mean to them as well)

at younger ages, both boys and girls are shy or embarrased, so they be mean, in hopes of masking-hiding their actually interest in that person..

I have yet to see a female expressing their love for someone by being mean to them anywhere outside of cartoons , the same goes for the male being mean. Other then "tough love" from family(usually fathers), teachers, or some other older, higher authoritative figure, attempting to express love to a potential spouse by being mean to them is just plain stupid. I imagine it would probably end the relationship, if their is one, then keep it together .

Maybe I'm wrong and people actually grew up acting like one of these walking-cliche's, but it's usually the media who creates them and uses them. Growing up, I've never seen people act or behave like what you've written.

That is, of course, assuming thay they knew each other before they Awakened. Something very doubtful since they weren't from the same generation.

I believe she took him under her wing at first simply because he was the only who could take her without breaking - how many male Awakeneds perished before Riful discovered Dauf? Ouch - and, with time, she started to really care about him and, maybe, even love him.

IMHO it's Raki=Laki~Lucky. In a few languages Laki sounds exactly like english Lucky.

I'm nost sure if anyone mentioned it before...
As we have seen when Beth was possessed by The Rod, she was able to retain her consciouness. It was told that she was able to do it because of soul link with Alice. Fab4 and Jeans example proved that to resist awakening will power is most important. As we know one of Raki strong points is his will power and determination.
A few people speculated that Raki might be a new male Claymore or something simmiliar to AF. IMHO he will be something like Beth.

Laki/Lucky though just sounds stupid 0_o. Yeah I guess he's pretty lucky, but as a name it's bad, and lackey is even worse because it sounds demeaning.

That still isn't good though; he's never been a servant. The whole "cook" thing was just an excuse Claire came up with because she's too much of a "bad girl" to say anything else. Raki has definitely elevated himself throughout the story, he shouldn't have a name that's essentially "Servant" :/ .

Dauf....now there's a guy who should be called Lackey, that's all he really is.

Hey guys, I just registered, for now I'll only be in the Claymore area, because it's my new favorite anime, but maybe when I see some more animes I'll start popping up in other sections of the forums.

Anywho, back on topic.
Firstly, to answer the original question of this thread. I think Raki is quite a vital part in the story. Even though physically he is pretty much useless, he has had a very large mental impact on many characters.

When Clare was fighting the Yoma in the Great Cathedral and was about to Awaken, he still clenched onto her and said "I want to be with you forever." Were those not the same words that Clare told Teresa too? This was probably why Clare mustered the power to revert back to Human Form, because she had already given up and said it was useless at that point. What would have happened if Clare awakened?
Secondly, I have a hunch that the only thing that's keeping Clare going now is the promise she made to Raki. I believe she knows that she's no match for Priscilla for now, so she is focusing on finding Raki and staying alive like she promised. Maybe she would have just perished if not for that promise?
Lastly, look at what Raki is doing with Priscilla. Even though it is speculated that she does not feel for Raki or "care" for him, she still follows him and it was made apparent she hasn't eaten guts in years. Who knows, maybe Raki may be able to change Priscilla before her fated showdown with Clare.

Spoiler for Storyline:

I noticed by reading the later chapters of the manga, Raki has gotten experience in swordsmanship, since he took out that Yoma that Priscilla pointed out.
However, if you recall what the parasitic "needles" that the fusion of Raphaela/Luciela did, I am curious as to what will happen to Raki, and if he truly does have some kind of power in him. My way of thinking is this: Beth got stabbed by a massive needle and was consumed and awakened, while Raki was hit with three(?) of the very small ones, however I believe the effect will be the same. Considering that Beth was made into an awakened in a matter of minutes, and Raki, being only human is resisting the effects of three for so long, could hint that he has some hidden powers. Besides, I am curious what will happen to him. You saw how fast Beth awakened from the needle, Raki is only human, it's only a matter of time before the needles effects kick in, and I doubt the organization is fast enough to remove the needles, and I doubt they will since it's just another "experiment" to them. I wonder what will happen to Raki? Perhaps since he is human he will gain some Yoma powers.

And yes, since the ORG has effectively lost it's #1 and #2 to Priscilla, chances of them restarting the Male Claymore Program using Raki as the cornerstone does seem feasible. He's been around Youma, Claymores, and Awakened beings ever since he was a child - it's one hell of a longshot but there is a very very very slight chance that all that 'youki poisoning' (i.e. radiation poisoning) has changed him somehow.

If you work with it long enough, you will be changed by it - the same could be said of the MIB as well.

I'd give up all of my money that's in my savings (which is alot) to see a glimpse of Raki being a new warrior of the Organization. Then he see him leading 20-25 females warriors to take on the dragonkin invasion.

Raki: "So far so good, eh." *takes a breath* "We'll be departing soon as well, Priscilla."

Priscilla: "Very well, Raki. I'll go ahead if you don't mind."

Raki: "Don't eat too much Priscilla - remember we don't want to alert the local populations."

Priscilla: "I know that." *leaps from the wall all the way to the ground below and disappears*

Galatea: "It still frightens me to no end that she'll actually listen to you with almost no question."

Miria: "Not just her, but the same can go for the rest of us."

Raki: *puts a hand behind his head* "I'm sorry, I know I'm not cut out for this..."

Miria: *smiles* "No, you're doing quite well. You're the one who thought of this plan to strike back at the mainland once they sent their own armies against us. You rallied us along with Clare to strike back for our homes and our lives. It only makes sense that you lead us."

Raki: "I just hope that I do all the ones who came before me justice and not mess up." *slowly unsheathes his sword* "Miria, you'll take charge of the squads to the North, Tabatha, Uma and, Cynthia will assist you. Galatea, you'll aid Dietrich along with Helen and Deneve to the South. I shall break through the middle with the remaining squads along with Clare and Priscilla."

Helen: "Heh, giving yourself the toughest assignment of all? That's fine by me."

Deneve: "How true. There's no way I'd want to be between Priscilla and Clare and yet you're forcing them to work alongside each other."

Galatea: "I actually admire Raki's foresight. Getting two women who hate each other but love him to work together to make sure that he stays safe is a wonderful idea. Suicidal but he's making it work."

Raki: "...I'm glad you all have such faith in me..."
