Wtf. PA actually making a nonfail male character for once. Impossibru. Specially not with the writer on board being infamous in her emasculation tendencies. Will still expect him to crossdress at some point in the film unless proven.
In all seriousness, I think he's Satsukis ex husband. Last edited by Pocari_Sweat; 2013-04-02 at 02:12. |

I have to admit, my expectations are pretty low given the Satsuki focus. She's a funny character as a supporting character, but casting her in a main role doesn't seem like a very interesting story, given the series where Ohana is not the focus ranges from mediocre to awful.
Essentially the series had Satsuki work to portray her as a rebel, the mom Ohana didn't respect, but in the end they actually had much in common with her free spirit blah blah blah. Indeed, if the movie does portray Satsuki to be just like Ohana when younger so they can reunite with then "oh, we're really the same" bullshit then there's really no point to watch it. But in the end, there's really no reason for me to give a damn about her. Overall, this is the show's fault for completely failing to make rounded characters that serve their paper thin characterization. It was way too black and white, highlighting each character's inadequacies and you were really just led to think "My god, these flawed people are why Ohana is in the situation." That god awful inn arc with Yuina was indeed some of the most preachiest, one sided bs that just convinced me that they simply aren't able to make a point without using excessive hyperbole and ridicule of any opposing sides. That would be typical of Okada, but sure, she's not responsible for all of it shield will pop up, so I'm just going to bash on the final product. Essentially, when someone can be summed up in a few not very interesting sentences, I don't really see a need to go off on such tangents, but then of course this is Okada and PA works who absolutely must need to leave every stone unturned regardless of how pointless and redundant it is. Sure, we could actually develop the characters we already have in the main cast but nope. In retrospect, the extremely negative view of its own characters while minimizing their strengths combined with the lack of respect treated to them just makes the series increasingly worse every time I look back at it. And indeed I tend to remember the negative things first since the show would constantly remind you. It looks great though, but that's about it.

More Ayato in this PV. You can really hear Satsuki's searing hatred for Sui.

I saw the movie last night. Without going into spoilers, it surpassed most, if not all, of the series in my opinion. It packed so much into 66 minutes that you would be hard-pressed to say it was only an hour long. The overall story was wonderful and really gave a lot of depth to Satsuki's character. I won't say she's likeable, but this really fleshed out a lot of her portion. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who liked the show, regardless of how much you like it.
(also, a certain group on here won't be complaining about Spike)

I too attended the late night showing(man, goin to AX every day from sun up to sun down takes a lot out of you). Anyways, I would give it a 7/10, but the movie itself isn't bad at all. The visuals are excellent as always, the characters are up to their usual antics, and the pacing was great, but my only issue is that it doesn't introduce anything new plot-wise, aside from fleshing out Satsuki's character.
Spoiler for Light spoiler on how Satsuki's background is played out.:
Home Sweet Home is definitely worth checking out if you have an itch to watch some more, but don't go in expecting anything like an after story, which I'm sure most of us here already are aware of it. Aside from that one dude behind me that snored during the movie, I very much enjoyed watching it. Spoiler for slight off topic, but kinda relating to Hanasaku Iroha as a whole...:
