Building a Media Centre PC

I'm on a bit of budget and want to build a media centre PC. I mainly plan on watching anime and music with it but I still need to be able to do some photo editing and video editing, my most resource intensve task would be recording audio. No real gaming, I prefer to use consoles for that

What do you guys think of these setups?
AMD

Motherboard
Asus M2V TVM
Processor
AMD AM2940 Dual core 3800+
Video Card
+256mb Sapphire X1950GT
1 gig Ram
+LG dual layer burner 16x
Seagate SATA 320 gig

Intel
Motherboard
Asus p5VDC MX
Processor
Pentium d820
Video Card
+256mb Asus7300GS
1 gig Ram
+LG dual layer burner 16x
Seagate SATA 320 gig20

Power Supply will Antec Smartpower2 500w, CoolerMAster R80 cooling system
Your thoughts?

Oh yes, bear in Mind I am in Australia so we pay close to 2.5 time what you guys pays in the US. (And Newegg don't ship o/s)

And one more thing, I want to use Linux Ubuntu but, there isn't a lit of recording software so I want to dual boot with XP

I think I'm forgetting something

CPU: better get a core 2 duo one with 4Mb cache.

video card: +256mb Sapphire X1950GT is way way way better than +256mb Asus7300GS

memory: it depends on how much you use. I rather have 2 gig so I can turn off the swapfile.

Getting rid of excess heat can be a real problem, and Tiberium Wolf is right to recommend the Core 2 Duo; they run cooler than the Pentium D.

You tried the usual online search comparisons here in Australia? You know, StaticIce and the like.
