Synopsis (~by Bryan from animeonline~):

The anime will be based on the manga's story of 16-year-old Shintaro Kurenai, a specialist in settling squabbles between people, who is one day approached by the daughter of a powerful plutocratic family asking him to be her bodyguard. Think Combat Butler Hayate without the, uh, butlers. It seems like there's very little going on here regarding the other kind of "kurenai" - female ninja - but you never know.

Speaking of the Kure-nai manga adaption in Jump Square Issue #01 which will be released on the 2nd November 2007.....the same day Claymore Chapter 74 will be out.

We'll see, I guess.
Have you seen the video of the trailer, oh my god , the pics looked quite good but the video is not good, the loli part will get annoying but especially as her voice sounds older than the male guys voice which sounds like 10 , still not sure i may give the first ep a go.

If it follows the manga which I think is following the light novel at least watch up to the second episode.

just saw the trailer... the art does not live up to its manga predecessor...

That's quite true, though some people might like it, it's sort of like Studio Gibli back in the day of Totoro, however the art is much more refined of course lol But I still like the animation regardless. I think it's more heartwarming than the usual sharp and super muscle look, which might be more suiting for this anime.

Although I haven't read the Light Novel yet... I should probably do that sometime.

i share shaolinx's sentiments, the art couldve been a lot more better if it was based on the manga's looks. but we dont know what the anime will bring, i hope this'll live up to its light novel counterpart.

kure-nai's OP is visually completely on crack. Seriously, WTF? This show gets an A just for the OP. 8)

Also, Red Garden-style character designs. 8)

I have no words about the opening of this anime except WTF where htey on drugs or not? I seriously belive this was the worst OP I've seen in my life. Grats for creativity thought but man what crap it was.

Cannot wait for fansub thought all i got out of it was a bit more prestory of the girl, wasn't much of it in the manga after all.

Currently watching the episode and while the opening song is good, the opening sequence is....well, weird. It's like watching a flash animation

Spoiler for OP:

I'm not really sure what they were smoking Anyway, as expected from Brains Base, the animation is good. You can definitely tell the character designer worked on this. Also, I liked the simple piano BGM in the episode. I'll probably continue watching this since I've enjoyed what I've seen of the show and the manga.

Also, the ending song is good, although the sequence is just of pieces of clothing for the most part (shoes, shirts, etc.) in a style similar to the OP of Red Garden.

Yeah, weird OP is weird.

Then the rest of the episode was dark until the similarly bright ED. I don't even really mean dark in tone... but almost everything happened at night/was almost totally black. Decent production values, but this kind of show's not really my thing, so *shrug*

Uh, I loved the OP animation. Except maybe for not being able to read the titles very well. The color, look, and movements were excellent. The song by Kuribayashi Minami was just okay. But I really liked the ED song by Shintani Ryouko.

I guess I'll go in spoilers for the rest of my (positive) reaction to ep1:

I loved the OP. I think that it's refreshing when something other than the usual type of OP is used. The ED is different too and I liked it too.

The first episode is dark in tone and has a lot of action. Muraski's tearful scenes almost drove me to tears.

Personally, i liked the episode, but I have no idea where this is going.

Despite the formulaic plot outset, the characterisation was superb, in my opinion. Every character felt nuanced, lively, fleshed out by littlest hints of style or mannerism.

What I didn't like was the fact that the plot was neither here nor there, it neither does explain anything, nor does it try to hit a mysterious note with something stunning to grab our attention. There was a multitude of scenes and characters, but we know very little about what's going on and why stuff is happening.

So, that's my take. I like the characters, disliked the pacing. But I am sufficiently interested to go on.

I like the character design work for the show much better than the manga... but I thought that was the stronger part of Red Garden, anyway.

I totally agree, one episode into this series and the characters already interest me a lot.

The art and especially the character designs are very similar to Red Garden which made me very happy. Add a good plot and we will have a winner. They really could have added more of a hook to grab the viewers attention from the start, though. I hope the series gets darker, the OP seems to be in deliberate contrast to the expected events and feel of the sereis.

I guess Sawashiro Miyuki's the director's favourite seiyuu as she gets a lead role in each of the series he directs.

*Begins watching*
*scans over it*

Dame da! Dame da! Don't like the animation style at all...
My opinion of the story was already "iffy", but at least I could handle the drawing style in the manga... This... on the other hand...

Mah, owari... to...

*crosses Kurenai from watching list*
Still have three to watch on Thursday. Didn't lose anything here.

It's like Red Garden, but with an actual budget! Even the ED is similar.

Love the style, much improved over the manga which I just checked out to compare.
