36 games later...at 1275 pts.
yeah i said i wanted to retire but i decided not until i get to the point i will get a super long losing streak to endure. i am 36-50-49-33 in the month of january so according to my logic..i will get more wins until 1st place is in par with 2nd/3rd. most likely my losing streak will start when i hit 2000 points and not lose at the same time. |

All the more reason why I don't play for rank. I ran into some kind of similar trouble with Chess. Just once did I cross 1500 in Yahoo. XD Worrying about rating distracts one from actually playing the game - to the point where it isn't even enjoyable anymore.
Granted, this renders me as some sort of cheapskate at the same time.

i did some math and i'm more convinced it is close to impossible to reach 7 dan with a regular account under normal play. Why? because based on my stats, it appears my 1st place ratio is being capped at 17-24%. Same thing for 4th place except it's a little higher; MINIMUM 20-24%. Premiums get a higher % for sure, it's 25-32% for 1st place but 4th place ratio minimum remains the same.
any up and down cycle will result close to a net 0 point gain under normal play as 6 dan, assuming you hold win/lose ratio of 20-30-30-20. If you are able to avoid critical 4th places, then I'd say it is possible to reach 7 dan but it'll take a butt load of games. I'm estimating about 500 or so, however, it's not humanly possible to dodge most of critical 4th places because Tenhou sometimes will force you to deal a bad tile which could cost you the game. So the conclusion is, the Tenhou ranking system is nothing more than PAY TO WIN! And games are rigged for sure. |

It's funny that Ron2 was snubbing Tenhou even back then, when there's all the more reason to do it now. ... Anyway, I think I'll return to Tenhou with a new account I registered once I reach Level 111 in BVS. That seems many months away, though. For now, a pretty screwed up game, from my perspective.

Tenhou started cracking down on players that is colluding by viewing their hands live stream to their partners for the Houou rooms
I guess that was in response when ASAPIN reached Tenhou rank. Some jealous players probably suspected him of using such tactics. |

Tunneling in such a room wouldn't be very efficient anyway, considering only high ranked players would be playing against one another and a 4th place finish would be more destructive than a 1st place win constructive.
In the old days, we'd just run out Kuitan Nashi or Kuitan Ari rooms in Main or Upper Dan, since those weren't very high traffic. Though, if I'm looking at this right, it looks like 4 Dan 1800R can't participate in the main lobby anymore, while 1 kyu can play in what was formerly the Dan-only room?

It can be efficient if you know exactly how to set it up and it still takes some skill and resources to pull this one off. Saving a few losses still makes a huge difference.
As long as you know when you are in a winning/losing streak, it's not quite hard as you think to pull this trick off. |

Now, I wonder. What would have happened if you dropped the Haku (white) instead of the Nan (south)? Sometimes, it's easy to make the mistake of dropping certain honor tiles if they're already discarded... sort of a reactionary thing, despite realizing the threat.

Oddly enough, instead of winning a game, my objective is to attain "round wins" using different hands. Just certain hands I just don't end up gettin' - like RyanPeiko. I'd like to get one of those once.
Of course, this mindset is... "dangerous". XD
