But hmm.... with this new HD upgrade, will it be able to achieve Blu-ray like quality? I've been meaning to see the new Blu-Ray AIR OP in it's full glory for quite awhile now.

Blu-ray goes up to 1920x1080 resolution using h.264 at a maximum of 40 Mb/s Youtube's fmt=22 is 1280x720 using h.264 at 2 Mb/s yeah, that's right, _2_. So in a kind of innaccurate way you could say that blu-ray is 20 times better than the new youtube. Also the audio is way different. Blu-ray can handle lossless 24 bit audio, but the youtube streams are all 192 Kb/s AAC audio. Comparing youtube to blu-ray is really unfair though .

I'd say it was a good move on youtubes part but it still doesn't make up for the rest of youtubes quality issues. The fact that youtube only supports 3 resolutions. Horrible, not much better and FINALLY I CAN GO FULL SCREEN WITH OUT MY VIDEO LOOKING LIKE A HOT MESS OF BLOCKS... but it's a bit laggy... I hope now that they're supporting hd they can try supporting all the resolutions in between as well.
I posted these on another forum. There was more but it was mostly informing them because they had no idea what youtube actually does with uploaded videos. &fmt=22 &fmt=18 &fmt=6 default I did upload this. I wanted to take a more in depth look at the new hd feature. It's toradoras opening.

This is great, downloading 300k of torrents and I can still stream HD off youtube no problem. Maybe I will actulay start using youtube since it dosent look like crap anymore.
They should give us an option to hide the bar at the bottom though, it messes up the full screen video by making it smaller.

Really? Maybe anime companies could partner with youtube and stream hd anime. It'd be a hell of a lot better then crunchy rolls quality. I don't recommend users upload full episode s themselves though. Only If the anime really doesn't have much of a chance of getting licensed.

Well, kyoani could be the first to get on that, since they're showing Haruhi-chan and Churuya-san on Youtube. I guess they will be HD.
Youtube is quite popular in Japan, I'm sure anime companies will get to it soon.

if fmt=22 vids become popular, youtube may be responsible for over flooding the internet.
