Now that I have the inspiration (again lol) to go back to this novel project of mine, I will consider basing the teams in my story off the senior men's teams of the recently conculded 2015 FIBA Asia Championship, excluding perhaps Japan (because my story is set in Japan).

My Hero Team is basically like this:

- #4 Team Captain is basically Tezuka in Kuroyukihime's body. 168cm (5-6) All-around SG/SF who usually ups her game in the 4th quarter.

- #5 Vice-Captain is Shusuke Fuji and Kurama (YYH) combined. 160cm (5-3) Typical pass-first PG with a good 3pt shot, but has a bad habit of testing out the opposition early, often leading to her trying to do catch-up in the late game.

- #6 SF. Quite small for her position at 164cm (5-4), but makes up for it with insane speed and the ability to frustrate her mark. Nicknamed The Red-Haired Beast.

- #7 Japanese-Australian SG who used to be the team manager for the last 2 years. 171cm (5-7) and has supposedly the biggest rack in the team (lol). She only has 3pt shooting and nothing else, but under the new coach, she strives to improve her defense to complement her already deadly outside shooting.

Spoiler for Second Years:

- #8 183cm (6-0) center, basically Kaidoh and Akagi combined. A member of a traditional samurai family, she chose to join the girls' basketball club in her first year when the kendo club ran out of slots and she was refused entry despite being the reigning NATIONAL middle school kendo champion (flimsy excuse I must say but oh well).

- #9 177cm (5-10) PF is basically Momoshiro and Sakuragi combined. Kendo student of #8's father along with #10 (later). Serves as foil to #8 in that she is a mobile big with smooth moves, good midrange shot, and okay 3pt shot but can also go down and dirty when needed.

- #10 172cm (5-8) defensive specialist SF who can play and guard 1-4. The only reason she isn't the best player on the team is her lack of reliable offensive game. She has decent enough offense but she just plays many times better on defense.

- #11 158cm (5-2) Inui-expy PG (minus the penalty drinks lol). Genius-level IQ with quite the knack for player scouting and electronics. On the court, she wears a specialized eye-guard embedded with microchips that allow her to scout her opponents in-game and predict their movements based on the data she gathers from there. This, however, does not work on players capable of playing greater than their potential, most of them are team captains or ace players, with some notable exceptions of the MC and of the first year C of the Rival Team (not the strongest team in the league).

Spoiler for First Years:

- #12 185cm (6-1) Center. The protagonist of the story. Started out as a beginner with immense potential in basketball, eventually emerged as a rim protector, but she only had post defense at first and nothing else. After losing to the strongest team in the league, she strived to improve her offensive game, particularly the mid-range shot so she can contribute more instead of being a dead weight on offense, while still contributing big time on defense.

- #13 166cm (5-5) SF. Basically a younger and spunkier version of the Team Captain, except that she's more inclined on the offensive side with her good slashing skills and outside shooting. Starts out as a liability on defense, until losing their team captain to an injury made her step up her game on both offense and defense to become the new pillar of strength for her team alongside her fellow first years.

- #14 162cm (5-4) PG. Has great potential of gaining the best court vision in the nation with the ability to foresee player movements in the form of coaching lines in her head. Starts out as a benchwarmer PG with little confidence in herself, until losing their team captain to an injury gave her more playing time to realize her full potential.

- #15 155cm (5-1) SG. Rukawa and Ryoma combined and the foil to #13, in the sense that she is a stone-cold assassin with more skill to #13's loud warrior with more swagger.

Spoiler for Extra 02 - Why You Should NOT Be Distracted With Bad Calls By The Refs:

One "oddity" (for a lack of better term) I see in b-ball fiction is that the refs' calls are always perfect, ostensibly to avoid complicating things which would make b-ball too realistic for a viewer's taste. Thinking of play-by-play scenes is already one thing, adding bad officiating to the equation would just hurt the head of any aspiring sports novel writer like me.

I wonder what can one do to show how bad calls by the refs can disrupt the game plans of any team, especially in fiction where calls by officials are impeccably perfect.

Almost out of hiatus now. Will update the next chapters as soon as I am able.

Questions first, though.

I have decided on a 5v5 scouting (for a lack of a better term) match between the freshmen (including the MC) and the senior members of the hero team (3rd year backcourt, 2nd year frontcourt).

Should I let the freshmen win out of sheer luck or should I let the seniors win anyway but will be impressed enough with our heroines to let them join the team?
