Hearing the telltale twist of a bottle being opened, Celica Iris-Lynnfield sighed and leaned back into her chair, glancing over her shoulder. “Alphine, have you ever tried not drinking cherry Coke for at least one day in your life?”

Lifting the bottle to her lips, Lutecia Alphine took a long drink from her favorite liquid before lowering it with an innocent smile. “It didn’t end well.”

Sighing again, Celica turned back to her computer, clicking through the files. “Fine, do whatever you like,” she said. “I can only hope your girlfriend likes cherry breath.”

Lutecia raised a brow, but she was distracted by a knock on the door; taking another quick drink, the purple-haired summoner set the cherry Coke down on the desk and headed over to open the door, blinking. “Storm? Why are you here? It’s almost three in the morning.”

“I know.” Victor grunted as he stepped into the control room, carefully balancing a pizza box in his arms. “But I heard from Charlie that you two were still in here plugging away when everyone left.”

Celica gestured to Lutecia. “I told her to go home.”

“And I told you we’re partners for this case,” the other woman shot back mildly. “I might not be good with computers, but I know how to keep someone company.”

That one made the gray-eyed girl scowl, but otherwise she stayed quiet as Victor set the box down on the table and flipped it open. “Anyway,” he continued, “you two have been here and it crossed my mind that neither of you ate during our dinner break. I had to pull some strings to get a pizza place to deliver so early, but I have my contacts.” He grinned.

Lutecia snorted and scooped up a slice. “More like you probably dated someone on the delivery crew.” Taking a bite, she studied the light in her friend’s eyes before her red gaze flickered to Celica, the other woman still typing away furiously and not even giving Victor a glance.

She sighed and made the connection. “Lynnfield.”

“What?” Her voice was annoyed. “I’m working, here.”

“I know. But eat. And say thank you to the nice man who took the time to get you pizza and make sure you didn’t starve at three in the morning.” The summoner’s voice was amused, but there was a gentle urge to it.

Sighing and caving in, Celica spun her chair around and stood up, going over to grab a slice. “Thanks, Vic,” she mumbled as she took a bite, and she would have sooner gone to her grave than admit that the taste was heavenly. Ignoring both his grin and Lutecia’s soft laugh, she went back over and plopped down in her chair. “No plates?”

“Sorry.” Victor scratched the back of his neck sheepishly and grabbed his own piece. “My magic can only do so much.”

“Meh, not a big deal.” Celica took another bite. Suddenly, though, she found the silence maddening with more company; it was like she needed to hear voices. “Hey, Alphine.”

Lutecia washed down her latest bite with cherry Coke. “Yes?”

“Talk.”

“About?”

“I don’t know. Something. What’s going on with that girlfriend of yours?”

At that, the purple-haired woman blinked; out of the Shadows, Celica had never seemed particularly interested in her relationship with Vivio. Shrugging it off—she never minded talking—she grabbed another slice. “She has a dance coming up…” She paused for a moment, checking her internal clock. “This evening, actually.”

Victor stared. “And you’re still here?”

“I already have it under control.” Lutecia shrugged and took a bite. “It’s not a big deal, just a little get together hosted by the school for kicks. She’s looking forward to it, though.”

Celica smirked. “Your mom aiming to get you into a suit?” It was no secret that while other women liked to see their daughters in dresses, Megane seemed to have an ache to see Lutecia in a suit; probably because she knew her daughter could pull it off with little effort.

“I already have one.” Lutecia winced. “The General’s a big fan of the idea, too, so.”

At that, Victor laughed outright. “General Yagami? Why am I not surprised?”

Lutecia shrugged.

Feeling oddly soothed by it, Celica continued working; she couldn’t say she was a social creature by any means, but she enjoyed the company of the two people currently with her. As she slid out to grab another slice, a wicked thought crossed her mind that she couldn’t resist. “Say, Alphine…”

“Hmm?”

“How many bases could you and Vivio cover with a suit?”

Lutecia blushed and groaned. “You, too?”

“Should we tell her about the bet that they’ll get cockblocked again by Nanoha?” Victor wondered.

Celica smirked. “Nah. Let her find out for herself. Besides, they still have plenty of bases they can cover without going all the way.”

When Victor choked on his pizza, Celica simply smiled.

A little bit of shipteasing with Celica/Victor, but really, I meant it more as good friendship than anything else. If it goes any further than that is Syn's decision.

You nailed Celica's personality quite well in this little moment of camaraderie... but you mispelled her last name. It's "Iris-Lynnfield," there's only one "e" in the last name.

I support Victor/Celica shipteasing for the lulz, even if--no, especially because Celica also suffers from the usual affliction of Midchildan women.

I can totally see Hayate dressing Lutecia up in a tux, too.

Cuteness! (I note that Celica calls Storm "Vic" rather than "Storm" the way Lutecia does...significant? I always like how you slip little stuff like that into your relationship fics.) Much love for Lutecia's cherry-Coke fetish (heh...you know, when you mentally combine their discussion of bases at the end of the fic with that little exchange at the beginning, it adds up to one very dirty joke...which I blame on the thought of imagining Rider in a suit). But all in all a nice little slice of Shadowy life. Someone should tape the scene and give it to Nanoha somewhere around "Long Distance Goodbye."

Well, I chatted with Syn over AIM not long after posting the fic, and she gave me the go ahead to run wild with the Celica/Victor plotbunny that has bitten me and demands attention. So we'll see what comes from it.

But all in all a nice little slice of Shadowy life. Someone should tape the scene and give it to Nanoha somewhere around "Long Distance Goodbye."

That would make Lutecia's life far too easy.

About Vividly:

It doesn't have an overlaying plot that everyone is working for. It's a spoof, and a "Slice-of-Life" Like ToraDora, or Ranma 1/2. It's just... there.

Vivio wants to be an adult entertainer like Nanoha-mama, Fate wants to stop this from happening at all costs, Kris is a reasonable device, Corona and Rio are Vivio's fangirls/stalkers, and Nove and the numbers are hardcore gamers. It's just about them and their daily life, so don't think too much on it, okay?

I am not afraid to die.

She walked across the barren battlefield that had seen so much death in past years. In the far reaches of the horizon the distant sound of battle could be heard wrecking the silent harmony, explosions flashing across the sky of nights. Stars glimpsed through the thick black clouds hovering in the above.

I will not lose my mind.

Her white dress smothered with red fluttered in the wind as her feet stepped upon the fallen, burnt flesh and the liquid of life itself staining the ground. Bones clattered from the vibrations created by the machines of war, torturing the distant foes with shock and awe.

The wind was cold and harsh, a perfect fit into the scenario playing with an ensemble stronger than thunder. A strand of orange hair fell over her eye, which she swiped away with a stroke of her hand.

"Why must this fighting go on..." she whispered and continued her slow walk. To her right a company of the dead surged ahead, pieces of flesh dragging behind and organs hanging outside their ravaged bodies. The unquestioned loyalty to the King, with only the purpose to fight. To die in battle.

I've seen this so many times before.

Machines of the air roared past her in the darkness of the sky, leaving a trail of sparkling magic particles in their wake that almost as rain slowly descended upon the ground. Their sleek wings cut through the air without resistance, heading towards the battle in the horizon. The powerful weapons they carried would be a force to be reckoned with and the foe would suffer the wrath of destruction.

No more. Why must it go on?

A lone warrior strode up to its King and bowed, its arm nearly falling off from its rotten muscles. It was an abomination of nature, a walking corpse without emotion or soul. Yet, it spoke with a human's voice, one void of the despair so common on the battlefield.

"My King, our forces have proven unstoppable. The time of victory is nigh. We need you, my King. Lead our forces into the final struggle."

The girl sighed and clasped the warrior's cheek with a careful hand. She didn't see them as monsters. These sad beings of the beyond didn't deserve such words. "Why must you do this? Why must the fighting continue?"

"For you, my King. The fight, the conquest. It's all for you."

"But why can't we live in peace? If I am your King, why do you not obey what I say?"

The warrior didn't speak another word and eyed its King with silence. A lone tear rolled down the girl's cheek and she spoke, a slight tremble in her voice betraying her calm.

"If that is how it has to be. Yet I cannot understand it. I really cannot."

The warrior bowed again and strode off to join its brethren, marching off into the horizon. Behind them the King walked ever so slowly, grieving for the lost and for the damned. Without making the softest noise, a dark cloak began to form over her body, a black shadow coming to life. Magic began to intensify the air around her and her hands began to glow ever so slightly.

I cannot understand it.

Black pillars began to form around her, creating a circle of darkness as strikes of lightning bolted out from the void. The flashes enlightened the gruesome landscape of death.

I really cannot.

In a flash she disappeared, leaving only scorch marks on the blood-splattered ground. In the distant horizon only a lone, massive bolt of the shadows spoke of the Dark King Ixpellia's arrival on the battlefield.

Spoiler for Author's Note and Spoilers:

This short is a wildcard, and short, but filled with meaning. Since we don't have a lot of info regarding this period, I took the freedom to visualize it as I would like it to be. I'm sure I break some obscure canon deep into a thread somewhere but I really don't care unless it's grafted into stone.

The "flying machines" are similar to jets, but without the "mechanics", so they are operating on a rougher form of magic. Their weapons systems are magical bombs, compressed magical power that is unleashed when they hit the ground. The "machines of war" are simply tanks or light vehicles, firing magic rounds.

The foe is unknown as of yet.

Regarding Ix, I played heavily upon her different titles when it comes to the end. This is what my impression of her is anyway.

Regarding the "Army of the Dead" I went with my imagination. I know of the mariages, but I just can't see them this early so I went with a zombie/skeleton hybrid. An early prototype, one can say.

There are several things that every new recruit to Riot Force 6 learns by word of mouth upon entering. Simple rules that prevent a social 'faux-pas' or gaffe that could cost someone time in a disciplinary hearing. Or hospital ward.

These rules are here to protect people and to preserve what little sanity this unit has remaining. These are the unofficial rule of Riot Force 6.

One of the unofficial rules of Riot Force Six is one of the simplest:

You should never allow Signum and Fate to compete in a 'friendly sparring session' unmoderated.

The results of such an event occuring would include massive damage to the training facilities and a very exhausted pair of mages. This would be unsuitable for their companions and combat missions for the days following the 'friendly sparring session', as it caused them to be lethargic and unresponsive.

The first time this rule was broken, technically before the rule came into effect, a reinforced barrier had to be set up to contain their 'friendly sparring session'. They fought to a near standstill and called it a draw.

The second time this rule was broken, the reinforced barrier was broken, as well as much of the surrounding area. And it still resulted in a draw. Now the rule is strictly enforced.

The second rule would be:

Do not ever, under any circumstances, disturb or break any of Vita's belongings. ESPECIALLY HER HAT.

If this rule is broken, then you should have at least 10 seconds to return or repair the item (especially if it was her hat,) and even then you may discover that she does not realise it is back in one piece and may still attempt to maul the tar out of you.

The first time Vita's hat was disturbed, Nanoha nearly recieved a giant hammer to the face. She would then find herself outpowered and nearly beaten into submission by the Iron Knight.

You may notice that during training sessions, Vita does not wear her combat armour. This is for the safety of the hat as well as the safety of the trainees. More for the hat than for the trainees.

Do not offer Yuuno more than one alcoholic beverage during a party.

There is a good reason for that. Several things were said and done, all of which are best forgotten.

Unfortunately, they refuse to be forgotten, as no one can bear to see a depressed young man weeping on the shoulders of his friends and colleagues, bemoaning his lack of a love life and the sheer obliviousness of his object of affection. Directly in front of Nanoha's closest friends.

The discussion had by her Nanoha's friends was swiftly eclipsed by Yuuno kissing Shamal... very intensely when she offered to get him a glass of water. The aftermath of said kiss resulted in Signum... needless to say, some things are best forgotten.

That and the fact that this depressed and confused young man has the terrifying potential to teleport each and every single person present into planetary orbit or bind them in a very, very painful and embarrasing position if angered.

Nanoha is 24, I think, in Vivid? This takes place in Vivid, so Vivio is 10-ish, Einhart is 11-ish, ect. I'm sure someone awesome will go "Oh it's year xxxx so they're xx age! :3

It amuses me how completely this piece contradicts my current mood. Because somehow, in my mind, "murderous thoughts" equals "Fiasse/Miyuki backstory fluff".

Takamachi Miyuki was a creature of habit. Even on her time off, she trained.

She trained for a variety of reasons; to keep her body in shape, to stay sharp and focused in the mind, so her skills would stay intact even in times of quiet, because she liked the feeling of it, because doing it made her feel closer to Kyouya and Shiro in some strange, unexplainable way.

Very basically, when she had the time, the energy, and the urge, Miyuki trained.

She was training right now, in fact; moving in a dark, easy blur throughout the private courtyard of the Crystera Song School. It was early morning, not even full light yet; because of both the early hour and the fact that it was a Saturday morning, Miyuki was completely alone. Mainly because of that, she was dressed the way she was: a pair of long gray pants and a black sports bra. Normally, such attire would have put the temperature to chilly, but because she’d been training for several hours Miyuki had worked up a fine sweat and didn’t even notice how cold it was.

She was also so busy training that she didn’t notice the white towel flying her way until it smacked her right in the face. With a yelp, Miyuki stumbled back, tripped over her own feet, and crashed to the ground, her sword clattering to her side. She sat up, hastily tearing the towel off her face. “Who did that?”

“You’re welcome,” Fiasse Crystera said mildly as she emerged from the hall leading into the courtyard. “You’ve been at it since five, Miyuki. Don’t you think you should take a break?”

At the scolding tone Miyuki knew all too well, the black-haired woman winced; she sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck. “I was going to, Fiasse.” She wiped sweat off her face and neck before falling to her back again with a sigh.

Lifting a brow, the songstress watched her longtime friend. Miyuki was still glistening with sweat, though her workout had slowed and stopped for the time being, her chest rising and falling evenly as she closed her eyes. The girl wasn’t wearing her glasses, and her long, silky black hair had been pulled back in a ponytail instead of her usual braid.

The lack of decent clothing was also a bit of an eye-catcher, but Fiasse liked to think that was just a sign of how much Miyuki trusted her.

As a friend, anyway.

The soft sound of footsteps made Miyuki sigh. “I’m resting, see? Not moving, lying down, not planning to get up anytime soon. I’ll go in and eat, I promise, so don’t—“

The next instant Miyuki’s eyes snapped open with shock at the feeling of soft, warm lips pressed against hers, Fiasse’s hair gently brushing her cheek as the older woman leaned over her. The shock and surprise of it faded quickly enough, but Miyuki’s heart was pounding frantically against her ribs, and she felt as if her lungs had closed off completely. Slowly, gradually, she relaxed as the kiss stayed light and chaste.

After a minute or two, Miyuki closed her eyes again and hesitantly began kissing Fiasse back.

Beside her, the rays of the rising sun gleamed faintly of the blade of her sword, small sparkles of light that shot into the air and vanished in the morning mist.

1. Short fluff, mostly because I've gotten quite a number of questions asking me about what inspired the Miyuki/Fiasse couple in BtBR, how they got together, and all of the other stuff. This is a pretty short piece, but eh, I was in a mood.

2. Pre-BtBR, obviously. Not mentioned directly in this drabble, but Miyuki is in England visiting Nanoha, alone. The alone part is especially important. I don't think Fiasse would have the guts to make moves on Miyuki if Kyouya was around. You know, "best friend of love interest's brother" and all that.

3. The irony of writing fluff when, in reality, I want to break someone's neck is not one that escapes me.

Takamachi Miyuki was a creature of habit. Even on her time off, she trained.

She trained for a variety of reasons; to keep her body in shape, to stay sharp and focused in the mind, so her skills would stay intact even in times of quiet, because she liked the feeling of it, because doing it made her feel closer to Kyouya and Shiro in some strange, unexplainable way.

Very basically, when she had the time, the energy, and the urge, Miyuki trained.

She was training right now, in fact; moving in a dark, easy blur throughout the private courtyard of the Crystera Song School. It was early morning, not even full light yet; because of both the early hour and the fact that it was a Saturday morning, Miyuki was completely alone. Mainly because of that, she was dressed the way she was: a pair of long gray pants and a black sports bra. Normally, such attire would have put the temperature to chilly, but because she’d been training for several hours Miyuki had worked up a fine sweat and didn’t even notice how cold it was.

She was also so busy training that she didn’t notice the white towel flying her way until it smacked her right in the face. With a yelp, Miyuki stumbled back, tripped over her own feet, and crashed to the ground, her sword clattering to her side. She sat up, hastily tearing the towel off her face. “Who did that?”

“You’re welcome,” Fiasse Crystera said mildly as she emerged from the hall leading into the courtyard. “You’ve been at it since five, Miyuki. Don’t you think you should take a break?”

At the scolding tone Miyuki knew all too well, the black-haired woman winced; she sheepishly rubbed the back of her neck. “I was going to, Fiasse.” She wiped sweat off her face and neck before falling to her back again with a sigh.

Lifting a brow, the songstress watched her longtime friend. Miyuki was still glistening with sweat, though her workout had slowed and stopped for the time being, her chest rising and falling evenly as she closed her eyes. The girl wasn’t wearing her glasses, and her long, silky black hair had been pulled back in a ponytail instead of her usual braid.

The lack of decent clothing was also a bit of an eye-catcher, but Fiasse liked to think that was just a sign of how much Miyuki trusted her.

As a friend, anyway.

The soft sound of footsteps made Miyuki sigh. “I’m resting, see? Not moving, lying down, not planning to get up anytime soon. I’ll go in and eat, I promise, so don’t—“

The next instant Miyuki’s eyes snapped open with shock at the feeling of soft, warm lips pressed against hers, Fiasse’s hair gently brushing her cheek as the older woman leaned over her. The shock and surprise of it faded quickly enough, but Miyuki’s heart was pounding frantically against her ribs, and she felt as if her lungs had closed off completely. Slowly, gradually, she relaxed as the kiss stayed light and chaste.

After a minute or two, Miyuki closed her eyes again and hesitantly began kissing Fiasse back.

Beside her, the rays of the rising sun gleamed faintly of the blade of her sword, small sparkles of light that shot into the air and vanished in the morning mist.

D'aw. Sweet drabble is sweet! A couple of typos, but hey. I liked the little flow there between "it showed how much she trusted me--as a friend" and "*pounce!* *smooch!*"; you could just feel Fiasse's frustration at, in essence, how Miyuki's "trust" was apparently disregarding her as romantically or sexually relevant and how that prompts her to make a move.

Lesson 14 from the Book of Legendary Ninja Sword Training: When a random noncombatant bystander can knock you flat with a thrown towel, you have either been training too hard or you need to invest in a pair of prescription sports goggles. Or both!
