There was the daihasesai festival where two of his friends got badly injured and when he thought he was about to be finished off by Oriana and when he thought the Cross was going to take affect

I would have feel it more if it wasn't by the fact the volume spend its time alternating scenes between chasing and sports for 2 volumes making it feel tedious.

Maybe thats why Ichiranasai didn't show any single bit on the cultural festival.

Volume 13 when Academy City got attacked and even though he did beat Vento, the damages were still done

It didn't feel as striking as

Vol 14 and 16 where his memory destruction got exposed

That was a shock to him when Terra's saw trough him.

However, Touma wasn't that worried about tha on vol.16.

Now this one shit hit Touma hard.

Misaka gets four freaking illustrations.

Fiamma and Ollerus vs. Othinus gets jack. And we didn't get it in NT 4 either...

Well it could be worse. On Higurashi the main characer, Rikka, had to kill her own mother in order to escape from the alternate reality she was trapped in.

Things have been getting darker since NT 1. No. Looking back from the very first volume of this whole series, you can get a sense that the world's been spinning more and more out of control. It's become more evident since Gremlin's debut with the Kamijou faction forced to play catchup and now that chaos has finally reached its climax. It's something to mourn, but it's also something to rejoice over since now things can only get better. Touma's heart breaking was an inevitable decision on Kamachi's part since it would make it easier to relate to him as a human being.

I am happy that my theory of reality where Touma is a patient of a psychiatric hospital is still possible.

We can imagine several theories about the amount of shit that will fall into Touma, maybe Othinus torture him so much that he will forget own name.

Touma's heart breaking was an inevitable decision on Kamachi's part since it would make it easier to relate to him as a human being.

NT vol 7 we already saw his heart break a little (Tsuchimikado and Rensa) at least we've had hints that something might happen later on, and not even mentioned the issue of trust that rocked him in NT vol 5 and 6.

Well, there you have it, I just missed some big news. NT9 will be some darker and edgier, eh? I like that, more Character Development for our Hero. As long as there is a tiny possibility that you might wish to take the place of the main character in your story... you haven't screwed up things enough.

I wonder what kind of tragedy Touma will face, will he be ''driven to despair by his ideals'', or will he ''drown in it, and die''?

Though I don't believe Kamachi is quite to the level of the Urobutcher yet. Fate/Zero was like...everybody earns their Bad Ending (except Gilgamesh, but that's Gil, it's a given), and PMMM...you know how that was fucked up, the Bittersweet ending nonwithstanding.
You know your favorite writer is the master of tragedy when he considers happy stories to be unrealistic and contradicting the laws of nature, to the point he can no longer write happy endings to his stories.

But for Touma, from Kamachi (not really)...

I'll take you one step away from the worst end, bring you into the worst suffering. Hope will be there, always before you, always crushed as you fight through despair. You'll never know where it'll lead, and in what state you'll be at the end.

So broken hero, do you want me to write your story?
