This is the one volume I read without getting spoiled, and I'm so glad to have held on. This is easily one of the, if not the best volumes so far. To all of those clamoring for character development for Touma, this answered our prayers and then some. Addressing some of the biggest issues one could come up with when it comes to Touma and finally giving him the chance to act out of straight selfishness for a change. Kamachi could've totally taken the easy, a fact that was brought up in the story itself, but instead took the long, painful route, and it paid off. Add one of the best fights in the whole series and you have one hell of a ride.

Of course, I have to mention Will-chan, who I didn't even believe was a character before (I really thought it was Crowley trolling Accel) and is now one of the best. You have to be quite something to help Touma through his total breakdown, which by the way, was one of the best parts of the whole thing. Kamachi can't get enough of weird speech patterns, can't he?

And of course, Othinus. Going from segway riding troll to sympathetic figure is no easy task, less in one volume, but here it was pulled off great. A far cry from "LOL, Carissa is totally good, word". Just like Freya (or rather, her mom), we don't know the specifics, but what we do know is enough. Now that I think about it, that's a very Touma-like way of thinking.

And that cliffhanger! The shipping bait! So strong even our own god faltered! A "dere" former majin is fine too of course. Nakajima Yuka-sensei, please don't look this over!

Up to this point, I've considered Touma sort of a guilty pleasure kind of guy, but screw that. Kamijou Touma is a hero and a badass. This was a great reminder of why I love this series so much. All the love/10.

Oh, and Endymion is canon, I guess. That's nice.

Who the hell do you think they are!? Yeah, can't imagine how they are going to animate Touma's grinding and the bullet hell. But just seeing MAD from some pages back is pretty awesome already. Can't imagine if professional did it.

Actually it really was lightning. But that's not the important part, you need a spear and something that looks like a crux to cast Saint destroyer.

Not really ... not at all, actually. It's a spell that damages the parts of one's body that are similar to the Son of God by mimicking his crucifixion.
Acqua is born with a body similar to the Son of God, allowing him to use the power of a Saint. In addition, his body is also similar to the Son of God's his mother, which allows him to use Divine Mother's mercy.
And, you know a mother's body has great similarities to his son's. Which means his body is composed of more parts akin to the Son of God (parts akin to the Son of God's own body + the ones more akin his mother's) than any other Saint. You can say he has a higher degree of Kinship for short, which is why it hurts him more.

I tried to re-read vol 16 battle part where they are trying to use saint destroyer.

true it takes a form of lightning but Its more like a spell and the knowledge of it is different from esper ability. Can it be recreated that way? esper ability isn't that flexible to just create a new form of attack.

actually my explanation of the saint destroyer attacking the telesma of the saint isn't far off the mark

True it destroys the body similar to the son of god.

but what makes saint special to begin with?

their body right?

but what special about the body?

the body can store and use divine energy or telesma.

For saint destroyer spell. It ROBS THE INTERNAL POWER. Causing the saint unable to move.

What is the internal power of the saint?

what makes them special? what is the special energy available to the saint?

isn't it the telesma?

that special energy that even Kaori can't use for too long even if she is a saint. The burden is just too much but for Aqua. He can use it 100%

Correct me if I'm wrong but I also remember Kaori can only utilize it at 50% max without worrying about injury. True it might be her 100% power but for the use and conversion of energy isn't at maximum. There is 50% lost to it.

Sorry my memory is vague. I even need to reread the part of the battle. I'm just stating what I remember.

but back to saint destroyer.

It attacks the saint or the body of the saint that house the same as christ.

Normally for a saint that can only use 50% with 100% concentration. Robbing the ability to control telesma will just shut down the saint.

But for aqua that has to control 50% saint/body of christ 50% divine mother.

disrupting the balance of power or probably shutting down each will cost a unstable form of energy and it will explode.

that's what I understand.

True the nature of saint destroyer is execution or crucifixion but that is the nature of the spell but not the mechanics.

I'm not trying to be too much literal to it and try to understand it.

and from what I understand. That is how the spell works.

the key to aqua's defeat there is his power become unstable and explode. SELF DESTRUCT.

He has too much power/telesma under his control that one mistake will harm him.

Joking aside, best volume so far, this seem a lot like Zeromaria with repeat the same scene all over, more emotional too, and we have the almighty god's ship.

Well, maybe after this people will stop complaining about Touma being a Gary Stu with no development. Who I am kidding?

Seriously, when Kamachi wants he can deliver. The worlds Touma had to go through, his growing despair, the talk with the Will of the Network and the battle with Othinus were perfect. Othinus truly showed what a Magic God is capable of and Touma answered in kind whith his absolute refusal to give up. As he said it didn't matter how many times he died Othinus only had to break once.

Hopefully the next volume doesn't cop out of a fight between Touma and his friends in Sargasso. Touma vs Birdway round 2.

Misaki is still #1 for now because the story between her and Touma is still a mystery.
For all we know, it could be better than Othinus'.
But still.. Depending on the Dere level Othinus shows, I might change my mind.
A Dere level from the realm of the Gods perhaps?
