[Manga] Chapter 509 Discussion

Welcome to the weekly manga chapter discussion thread. This thread is created early to discuss spoilers and speculation about the upcoming chapter as well as discussion of said chapter once it has been released.

As per the forums rules, please don't ask for or mention about where to download the (licensed) manga. Also remember not to post or link to any translations of the manga, since this is illegal as well. Posting a synopses or summary is fine (and welcome) but please do not discuss scans, raws, translation groups, etc. Additionally, if you are posting someone else's synopsis (or their translation of a synopsis), then please provide credit were credit is due.

Remember that the manga is licensed, do not post significant parts of the chapter. This stands for pictures and direct translations. Summaries are ok, crops of pictures are ok as well if you want to illustrate your point but this is it.

Chapter Status: Spoiler out...

-They fight.

-Madara asks why Konan and Nagato betrayed him. She explains that Naruto is the “light” in the ninja world.

-Madara asks why Konan still wears the Akatsuki cloaks. She explains that because Yahiko started the group, she wears the cloak in remembrance. And because Nagato activated the Rinnegan in Ame, she will protect the Rinnegan from Madara.

-Madara scoffs, explaining that he convinced Yahiko to start Akatsuki, and he gave Nagato the Rinnegan!!! (If true, that should kill most of the Madara=Obito theories .)

-Stepping up the battle, Madara attempts to suck Konan into his little dimensional space, but she has hidden several explosive notes among her papers, so when he attempts to suck in Konan, she will kill them both in the explosion…

-Konan has a flashback of Yahiko and Nagato (and their importance to her and Ame)…

-The explosions takes Madara’s right arm and part of his mask (supposedly we see some of his face), but he had managed to suck in most of the explosion before it could do further har Madara explains that he underestimated her…

-Konan explains that she (and Nagato) betrayed Madara because he is the “darkness” of the ninja world…

-Final image is of the entire Sea turning in to paper; it seems to be a fuinjutsu of some sort…

Here's the short spoiler.

Weeee, Konan really does great.
She messes Madara up.

You still can't see his face.
But about half of the mask has been destroyed.
What you can see is a guy with short hair.
He looks really young (I think / It seems)

Well geez, I think we all underestimated Konan's fighting ability.

I'm glad but I still have a feeling she's going to end up kicking the bucket.

Rain + Konan = bad mix, so shouldn't she be at a disadvantage?
I for one wouldn't want to see her kick it, she has to help Naruto!

I'm pretty sure she can still fling around her paper in short distance fights regardless of whether or not she's drenched in water. Perhaps just a little slower and less distance on paper techniques?

When going against Jiraiya, she was drenched in an oily sludge which has different properties than water does. Also I think Hanzo had similar paper techniques when fighting while drenched... and he was able to use them effectively.

And on top all that... Paper = Explosive tags. Never really thought about that with all these big jutsu's and techniques running around.

This was addressed in Chapter 508 discussion. Konan has been shown to use her paper jutsu while it is raining. She did it while training with Jiraiya and Pain used water to wash off the oil that Jiraiya had used. She is also not as vulnerable to Katon as it seems, since Jiraiya's katon wasn't effective against her.

But seriously, this feels like the 1000011th time I've said it, so this is the last time

Madara asks Konan the reason for her betrayal. Is Naruto really worth it?
Konan says Naruto is the light, the flower of hope for everyone. Konan is clearly hostile towards Madara.

Madara: Fighting with me wearing that cloak, does it mean you still can't let go.
Konan:Yahiko created the Akatsuki. The red clouds on this cloak are the symbol of the rain of blood that poured down in Amegakure during the war. Even if you had taken over the Akatsuki, this cloak still represent our justice. It's not yours. Rinnegan was activated by Nagato in Amegakure, it's not yours either. His eyes are the precious asset of this country, this village.
Madara: It's I who made Yahiko create the Akatsuki. It's I who gave Rinnegan to Nagato. It's only right that I take them back. All I have to do now is capture you.
The fight begins.

As far as 'giving' nagato rinnengan, that's a little far fetched.
First rinenngan is supposed to be older than sharingan, also also I was under the impression that some random Konoha ninja activated nagato's rinenngan by accident. Then JIRYA was the one to teach him how to use it.

Even if Madara had somehow set up some kind of hardship for growth it's still a little far fetched to just push that in there as some kind of secret plot reveal.

Lastly couldn't pein give/share his rinenngan to like 6 other bodies? why did madara not just spy and figure out how he did it, or capture one of the used and useless bodies with rinnengan still in it using Zetsu or something?

I wonder if he means he taught him how to use it. Maybe he showed Nagato the abilities and advantages or something. Or told him about the Sealing Statue. Otherwise, can't wait to see Konan kickin' ass.

Who knows. The Rinnegan doesn't seem to be inherited directly like the Byakugan or the Sharingan, so its origins, for all we know, could be brought about in a more artificial way than just gene re occurrence.

-Well colour me surprised; Kishimoto actually gave a damn about Konan enough to have her kick some ass. I guess he made her the only female Akatsuki for a reason. As long as she does not die in this battle, I will be happy. And she had better live, especially now that he had said that Naruto will guide the world. I think she deserves to see that world for herself.

-Damaging Madara seems like a fairly simple task. Unlike most of the shonen villains, he takes damage easily. Its getting to him that's the hard part, due to his "phasing out" abilities.

Some of you guys just love to expect the worse come spoiler time and complain. Just because some of your favorite female characters have fell short of your expectations and hopes doesn't mean you should just go to the extreme conclusion that all females in the manga are weak and useless -- escpecially when we've been given examples that show quite the contrary (admittedly, they are few, but still). I had a feeling Konan wasn't a slouch, she was trained by Jiraiya and has been in the company of the ninja worlds finest. Besides, I think its pretty obvious Madara isn't exactly at his best at the moment, he really seems limited.

I wonder if by "convince Yahiko" he means casted a genjitsu (in regards to having Yahiko start Akatsuki); I suppose it doesn't make much of a difference, he got him to do what he wanted.
