Using Yajima's death and cheap comedy to save Kouichi's character is coming off as being a bit contrived, but heck it's working for me. I guess he's been such a cockbag previously it's difficult to not want to think of him as becoming a better person.

At least he was beaten up by one of the twins. I mean if they keep this level of story telling going for the rest of the series, and have some scenes like that then i'll be happy.

Plus cheap comedy always works with me.

Yeah, they seemed to have made it a destine thing and Yajima knew all about it. Like it was his rate and his death was meant to teach something valuable. I just didn't like the way they played it out. It was like, HERE I give up my life to show the wrong of you ways!

I preferred Hayase as a sort of backwards Suzaku.
Emi stopping him in ep 3 reminded me of Evangelion when Shinji was saying he'd destroy Nerv, and Gendo stopped him by altering LCL levels, it just seems like cheating and I found it rather annoying.

Actually maybe not cheating, but more like an escape.
Screw facing the reality of the situation (eg. being a father for a minute), or ever explaining things better, just disable the pilot and take his shit away.

Emi saying Yajima's death was solely his fault was kind of going too far as well.
Maybe if she would've pulled him out of the Linebarrel earlier, and told him to quit being an idiot, actually told him who JUDA were, who she was, and wtf was going on, maybe, just maybe he would've tried to understand a little earlier.

Well she did have slight memory loss.

But she also did this to make amends. She blames herself for getting him involved.

First she felt sorry for killing the guy first now this.

I know, she said she blames herself for getting him into this straight after they got out of the car, but does she admit this to Kouichi ?
No.

She just basically says your ignorance killed your friend, and somehow that's supposed to help him ?

It isn't a comfort but the bitter truth.

Emi realizes that Kouichi has to learn responsibility.

That power is not to be misused.

In fact the guy deserves a beatdown to take him down to Earth.

His fellow Juda members don't take shine to him and he knows that.

To them he is a messed up brat undeserving the Machina's power.

Kouichi will have to be mindful of the consequences of his actions and try to make amends for what he has done.

I didn't say she had to be comforting, I just don't see how telling someone that their best friends death is entirely their fault is advantageous in any way, especially given Kouichi's general mental state.

Fair enough he should take responsibility for his actions, but I don't see a whole lot of wrong doing on Kouichi's part, bullies beat him up, he gets them back, enemies threaten the town, he tries to defeat them.

He gave his life for the power he has, attacking JUDA members was stupid, as was continually not listening to them, but couldn't they have just came to his house, and shot tranquilizers at him or something ?
Every other factor would be better than him at hand to hand combat anyway.

Yajima is responsible for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Kouichi couldn't help but go home, he kind of lives there, Yajima however, could've not challenged him to an impossible fight, or could've not even showed up.

In short, Kouichi is hardly responsible for Yajima's death.
JUDA, Emi and Yajima himself seem more accountable in my mind.

You just said something totally outrageous there. You made it sound like Kouichi had his hands in Yajima. That was not planned nor did he cause the death. Like the guy said above: wrong place at the wrong time". With that logic you got there, then everyone, EVERYONE, in the entire world is in one way a factor in a person's death. Did Kouichi bring Yajima to that spot knowing they would get attack so he could watch his friend die to teach him a lesson?

Eh? It's not that hard to watch it considering GONZO releases officially subbed versions on youtube and crunchyroll as soon as the episodes air in Japan. That's been Gonzo's thing lately, I really wish other studios would do this too.

Toei Animation seems to be doing something similar, with Slam Dunk and Fist of the North Star, if only they did it with something I actually enjoy.
But any step toward digital distribution is a step in the right direction, so it's a good thing I suppose.

YAY...finally the main lead isn't so obnoxious anymore! Finally he's growing, some how he became some sort of a playboy. Anyways, I can actually watch it now with some enjoyment! Here come the girl problems......

I don't believe it but ep 6 was pretty good...

I still want to hate him but throughout the episode, he hasn't done anything wrong...what are the chances

But I have to love Emi for the chainsaw trick. Well done
