Windows Service Pack 3

Does Windows Service Pack 3 really cause problems for Internet Explorer like numerous reports claimed?

IE has many problems to begin with. Use Firefox or Opera.

I got SP3 running for awhile on my notebook. I haven't had any problems with it yet. Than again i don't really use it unless it's for some sites that aren't compatible with FF/Opera.

And i agree with martino about using FF or Opera

I just have SP3 for a day now and no problem with IE yet. If there were problems, perhaps they've fixed it by now.

Are you talking about IE8 beta issues with SP3? The solution to that would just be to avoid IE8 until the final build is out and officially released.

At this rate, is IE8 only available through manual downloads?

Yes, and it should stay that way for at least another couple months when Microsoft will probably push a final version over Windows Update and hopefully have worked out the bug.

I doubt MS will change SP3 since its already been released. Most likely they'll push out a hotfix with SP3 to fix any known issues.

If that was in response to me, you took my reply out of context. I wasn't talking about SP3, I was talking about Internet Explorer 8. Service Pack 3 isn't the problem, Internet Explorer 8 beta is the problem.

The word beta should be warning enough to everyone to use at their own risk.

Theirs 4 types of beta's IMO:

1.The "released to the public to to iron out the last few small glitches" kind.

2.The "will cause generally odd behaviour for some users" kind.

3.The "cause complete and utter chaos no matter what hardware or OS you use" kind.

4.The "why the hell did MS release this piece of bug ridden crap in the first place?" kind.

IE8 and SP3 is an unrelated thing, because they are available as separate release.

Why chose IE? Google Chrome, Opera, or Safari is better.

I think the main issue I've heard about with XPSP3 and IE is that if you install SP3 you cannot uninstall whatever version of IE you have installed at the time. So for example if you have IE8 Beta on, you won't be able to uninstall it, which will cause problems when the full version comes out.

As we know, beta software is not intended for production use.
That's why I don't want to install any MS beta updates, because I've enough problems with that

Like everyone else suggested, use a different browser, IE is horrible. The most popular choices are FireFox, Opera and Safari, all three have similar options and functions so why not try them all and keep the one you like?

I've had no problems with IE + SP3. As far as IE8, yea, it's beta. You can't expect perfection in a beta, that's the point. I'm not interested in helping Microsoft find bugs, so I never waste my time with betas.

Does this mean I will not be able to uninstall IE7 if I install Service Pack 3?

Does SP3 have other problems, because I remember the fiasco when SP2 was first released.

The current issue is you won't be able to uninstall Service Pack 3 if and only if you install the Internet Explorer 8 beta.

The only other major problem with SP3 I have heard of is the issue with AMD OEM built PCs where installing SP3 really messed them up because the OEM custom image was loading Intel cpu drivers after the update. This is in no way, shape, or form Microsoft's fault though.
