As would I. A pitcher is a lot more valuable than a catcher. However I think they were off in saying that they could make anyone a catcher. A great hitting and defensive catcher are very rare and valuable as well.

It was still a good episode, but one part didn't make sense. Near the middle of the game, all the guys from Toshi's team started to hit all of Goro's shots. They haven't done so before and after. Just at that time when it is necessary to make Toshi happy. It didn't seem natural.

Yah great ep, i have to wonder if this season will follow him into high school or if they get further into the playoffs. Otherwise great ep, this game reminds me of hte final 3 eps of last season. Maybe toshi gets his revenge who knows?

So Sawamura has been written off it seems, or reduced to a minor character because he plays soccer now? Shimizu is still tied to Goro because she is a potential love interest, but I'd hoped Sawamura would have been close enough friends to the others to make more appearances.

I think the story will be mainly about Goro and Toshi in terms of baseball. For Sawamura it is less likely to go back to baseball, but, who knows, since he will also graduate and might start afresh in the high school as a baseball team member. But, I don't think he will decide so. He was a soccer player at the beginning, he is a soccer player now, and he will most probably be so in the future...

Episode 7: Anyone want to make a comment on what the shy girl who likes toshiya (kume?) implied when she said Toshiya was forcing himself to play the way he was in the game...

Well since she kinda "knows" him, she saw through his "double play".

He's forcing hisself to be a baddass in order to win the match and show a coldhearted machin to win to the scouts of Kaido High. But deep in his heart it's clear to her that he really really wanted to play fairly against Goro.

If that Kaido stuff wasn't there he'd never had play the match that way.


That's why she meant by that sentence. At least that's how I feel it.

I really liked episode 7 - it had some of that same suspense that the on-field eps in season one had. When it was over, it felt as if it had lasted about 5 minutes. I still think the characters are less fleshed-out than S1, and seem to do what they do for the sake of merely assisting the plot sometimes. Nevertheless, it was a very good episode.

That's the first time Goro has really been humbled on the field, as far as I rememeber. Kaido really harshed his mellow.

So - Komori and Toshiya play the same position. Wonder what's gonna happen with that...

Komori is also a very reliable hitter. I hope the tall guy also joins their team, he will be a valuable member.

I also look forward to their training. Goro lacks not only in pitching but also in hitting as observed in the Kaidoh game. If he trains with Toshi, he might improve much faster in pitching. For hitting, if he is to follow his dad's path, then he needs to train very hard also on that. But, for the time being, they might find a new better hitter for their future team and he can only concentrate on pitching.

There are two-days left for the new episode. We'll see Goro's response to the loss.

Goro doesn't really lack in hitting, compared to his opponents. Remember, the scout specifically said that his hitting was on the same level as the regulars on the Kaido high team. Most likely, Goro (and the regulars at Kaidou) could hit any pitcher that was at his own current level.

Great hitting catchers are rare indeed. Hell, every year im reminded of this when i draft my fantasy baseball teams and I always get stuck with pieces of tumbleweed and driftwood behind the plate.

Although I do not follow baseball, it seems to me that catchers can be trained to become very good even though they may not be very talented. Naturally, good instincts are required, but I believe you can still obtain that if you train very hard. But, for the pitchers, you need to have a powerful arm, and that is not something you can obtain even if you train very hard.

Poor little Komorin... Surprisingly, he continues to develop as the most interesting character in the series. He's the guy who's been loyal to Goro from the beginning, but Honda-kun can only have one catcher. Something's gotta give, and it's pretty decent for the dramatic tension...

No. You don't need to have a powerful arm to pitch, although it doesnt hurt. If you aren't a flamethrower, you have to be a command pitcher. Throw a lot of pitches, and find other ways of being successful without velocity. Movement on your pitches, big breaking balls, placement, etc. Guys like Greg Maddux and Tom Glavine dominated the 90s with an arsenal of pitches, none of which topped out over 90 mph.
