Yay incomprehensible to me!

So can I put you down for Ryou then?

Right.

Ryou sounds more interesting anyway. Especially when English speakers pronounce it REE-Oh.

I dunno. I just looked it up and found the one that matched. The name meaning totally sucks though.

The only real drawback is the possible confusion with this.

Sorry, I didn't mean it that way. It was sorta confused me when one persons say this while another says do that. But I think I'll do both in the end if I can find a scanner somewhere...

Oh, I forgot her existence

Ryouto is also a good name. It means "cold human."

Same pronunciation but different Kanji can lead to a need of disambiguation. Japanese naming convention is also complicated by the fact that there is a list of 'accepted Kanji name' that makes it a bit troublesome, which is a reason why some people would not have kanji written form for their first name. Just to name a few of these...

Kang Seung Jae: It is, but what kind of horrible parents the data entity is for naming their own creation that!

涼 carries a meaning of cool, chill, collected... depending on colliqual or literal interpretation.
椋 is Starling, or Nettletree/Chinese Heckberry depending on where you use it.
諒 carries a sense of sympathy...

@Shinn87: In Japanese, having that ou or u makes huge difference. Ryo りょ(呂)-> Ryufuko 呂布子 isn't anywhere close to Asakura!

There's also the fact that there's a "name prounciation" for several kanjis. 涼 had about 5 different sounds.

+5 for Ryou
+1 for Ryouto
+0 for Ryouta

Ryo and Ryou are the same. Just different ways of spelling the same word, I thought.

It's the difference of whether you shorten the "ou" into "o" when Romanizing names.

Most people try to avoid the issue by using ō.

I have no bloody idea how to do that on my keyboard though.

So I go with "ou".

*If some of you are in despair over the nastiness that is Kanji and name, take comfort in that not even Japanese native find the task of naming their children all that easy. With years of education in their own native tongue under their belt, no parent wants to make their kid sound silly typically. 糸色望 is one of those cases where a perfectly fine given name (with a slight colliqual meaning in hope) ends up with the hilarious DESPAIR once written together with surname!

I will +1 for Ryou also, and here's my edit of Part 2 of Chapter 2 (Kaisos):

Spoiler for Chapter 2 Part 2 - bb edit:

Just one recommendation: A TTGL reference might work here with Haruki declaring that Mitsuuru's manliness "shall be made to pierce the heavens" or something like that.

How 'bout we do a "what the name means" vote?

I'm completely for Ryou as "cold" in that case.

@beanbrew: Oh god.

Off on another topic... please consider the following:

Kyon is one suffering figure.

This is Kyon. Please don't forget these scenes as you write about Kyonko.

@RMX: tell that to Suzumiya and Nagato.

We haven't forgotten. Subjecting Kyonko to these things is a high crime.

@panzerfan: Bring 'em. >=D
