Like The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales an some others, all part of Arda (the world) mythology. And The Lord of the Rings is a unique story, but divided into 3 volumes: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Actually, there are 6 books, 2 per volume. The Hobbit is a precending to LOTR, it tells the story of Bilbo and how he found the One Ring. The Silmarillion is a summing of all history through the beginning of the 4th Age, since the creation of the Valar, the betraying of Melkor Morgoth, the Great Elvish Emperors, the accending of Sauron as the new Dark Lord, the fall of Númenor through the War of the Ring and the ending of the 3rd Age. Unfinished Tales are, as the name says, tales of Arda who were not finished by Tolkien, such as the tale of Túrin Turambar, Galadriel and Celeborn and the tales of Númenor. It's safe to say Unfinished Tales is a complement to The Silmarillion, it goes deeper in those tales.

Very interesting books, these are. Tolkien's one of the best writers of the 20th century.

i wasn't a big fan of the LOTR books.. too much singing--too much hand kissing between frodo and sam

for me,.. the best part of watching the LOTR movies was... in The Two Towers, right before the orc lights the bomb, me and my friend turn to each other and shout "ORC OLYMPICS!"

we got quite a few stares after that...

that scene was sooooo freakin' funny. i couldn't stop laughing when i saw that orc running w/ the torch ala Olympics. it was almost as funny as watching smeegle argue with himself.

anyway, i expect the last part of the series to be a great movie. it's way overhyped but i think it will meet my expectations. we'll soon find out though. i pretty much know it won't be a complete disappointment like the two matrix sequels... that was garbage right there...

Don't worry you won't be disappointed I assure you on that Peter Jackson does a hell of a job translating as best as he can from book to film. He does it so that everyone will like it...even though its innaccurate sometimes....*cough two towers. ROTK is probably the favorite for many because pretty much everything in it is a war so even for people who didn't like the LOTR before this one at least will be fun to watch. I don't want to tell you why your friend may have cried at the end...you'll have to watch taht for yourself

The Lord of the Rings: ROTK

I just saw a brief TV spot of this movie while watching ER.. and man it was awesome. I haven't read the books yet, but I have watched the last 2 movies and loved it. I can't wait for this last one. My friend, who works in the movie theater went to an employee screening and told me that the war scenes were ten times bigger than the ones in two towers.. He also said he was crying in the last half of the movie, and he never cried while watching a movie. I hope this movie lives up to its expectations cause I felt pumped up for Matrix Revolutions and it stunk =( But, I can't wait for December 17th !!! =)

Err, becuase it usually agianst the rule to post 2 same threads.

Edit by Mod (NightWish)
No don't worry wnkryo didn't double post I've merged the two RotK threads. We don't like people posting lots of threads on the same topic (from the same subject) because it is redundant and it dilutes the conversation. If all the posts are in one place it is much easier to follow. Now, back on topic...

A little of both! But I don't have class until noon tomorrow so I should be ok. I hope there are some cosplayers there, last time there was a lot of quivers and elf ears and a huge fat guy in a cloak with a staff .

If you do see it with your girl at least you'll have a good reason to see it again .

Uh... of course it does.

Return of the King will start here on December 25th. Yeah, at a later time most of times, but not that late.
