greenskye: I'm aware of the volume problem, it's a bug in mplayer itself. Everytime there is a file switch volume gets reset to default. I'll quote you an email I wrote on this matter:

softvol=yes

Then I use the OSX system wide control to adjust my volume. I'm pretty sure the audio output gets reinitialized too for each file switch. The volume bug happens by running mplayer from the bash too, so I might actually report it to Uoti.

well that explains things. Not a big deal right now (for me anyway)

And seriously, what is taking mplayer so long when it comes to ordered chapter support? They are falling too far behind the times.

Thanks for the help.

From what I understood some of the mplayer devs don't like the current implementation of ordered chapters.
Well, vlc and qt behave in a rather unstable way when I feed them with ordered chapters files; so I guess mplayer only loses on this field to windows & haali's media splitter.

ugghh... VLC... very buggy piece of software (when it comes to anime at least), and yes I was only comparing with haali's media splitter.

2009-12-13 is out.

Now, in files using ordered chapters, mplayer reports the correct length of the timeline to the GUI (i.e.: OP+Actual Episode+ED as opposed to only reporting the length of the main file). This fixes the bug that made the last part of an episode appear off-scale in the scrobble bar.

I don't know if anyone follows Coalgirls BD releases, but I always have issues with her(?) subs due I think to the inclusion of FLAC audio. My latest issue is with her release of Kanon. It seems that the audio is... odd. Like I can only hear the background but not the voices. I tried the file in VLC and the audio was fine. I have other methods to watch this show, but it would be nice to watch it on my mac. Any suggestions for how to fix this?

Go to preferences -> audio -> enable Virtual surround for headphones (only for 5 or 6 channels audio)
This is equivalent to using the "-af hrtf" option. Not using HRTF will downmix to 2-channels in a funny way apparently.

Hitting pause in rev13-test4 kills playback entirely. when I try to resume, the video will unpause and then immediately pause again on its own. If I hold down the spacebar i can get choppy playback because it is pausing/unpausing so fast.

Tested on SL.

There's no other mode to do this? For me is an improvement over the default, but at the same time it sound not really good,
the audio has a strange 'boxed' effect, like it was playing from an old tv set
I'm trying to have this multichannel audio outputted to a normal stereo set, there are other ways?

Try activating "Virtual speakers for headphones" too and see if it makes any difference.

No much difference with both checked. The distortion in sound is more noticeable with voices, but it's always present.
To verify if there is a problem with my setup, i have tested the audio with VLC without problems. Unfortunately VLC does well only in that.

try:
Code:
-af pan=2:.32:.32:.39:.06:.06:.39:.17:-.17:-.17:.17:.33:.33

That has done the trick, thanks a lot!
I have not used the same numbers and i'm tweaking them, but the results i got so far are much
better than using the virtual surround flag.

I'm also having this problem (using the pause button yields the same results). Is there a way to revert to the previous build?

Any chance we could see a PPC build of Mplayer with ordered chapters support, or has the code been modified too heavily to build successfully when PPC/10.5 is set as the target?

It should be pretty easy to build on ppc, the problem is targeting a different architecture and making the universal binary.

At the moment the building, packaging and publishing of one binary release involves me giving 3 shell commands and I'd like to keep it that simple.

Nice, rev13 is out! I haven't experienced any problems so far, and there are some changes that are really nice.

But I wanted to point out that with the new interface, the progression pointer is a bit hard to see, considering that the bar is already dark. It would probably be better if it's the same color as that lighter gray in the sides of the progression bar?

The version number of mplayer-mt is wrong, it certainly uses an ffmpeg-mt newer than last November. Not really a problem.

You build libav* as shared libraries, but that doesn't save much space over building them statically into two different mplayer binaries, and on x86-32 it runs significantly slower as a dylib (with PIC) than static (without PIC).

Also, I updated to rev13 from something I've already forgotten and the subtitle prefs came out weird - embedded fonts were off (they definitely should be on, I don't even see a reason for an option) and the font was set to Myriad Pro. I don't remember doing that, but who knows.

Rev 13 seems to fix most of the high CPU usage playing problems with HD video... now it plays smoothly on my old Late 2006 Macbook Pro.
