Why is it that ANBU from Konoha don't have their country symbol on their mask, when Haku did when he was disguised as ANBU?

hunter nin != anbu. The reason would probably be incase they get captured or seen, they cant be identified right away, so you could do secret missions and not threaten a treaty. Besides, the anbu have the tattoo on their arm, which I believe is a modified version of the konoha leaf.

i don't think that anbu and hunter nin are exactly the same. to me it seems that anbu are like a sort of police force. most of the time they seem to be bodyguards and stuff like that. whereas the hunter-nin seems more like a special type of anbu that goes to hunt down deserters and stuff like that... i dunno, that's just what i think.

The Hunter-nins are more specialised in knowledge about the body to make it short.

That's true. Hunter-nins aka Body Erasers specialize in hunting down and killing missing nins and disposing of the body to assure any data of the village is kept secret.
ANBU are a team of elite ninjas who's tasks vary from dangerous missions, assassination, tracking, healing, and as bodyguards.

Haku was wearing his head protector under his hunter-nin mask, as do the ANBU. They all just wear different masks to tell each other apart I guess.

Why does it seem like Konoha's ANBU all SUCK though, eh? =) They've been killed off left and right hehe. And I'm pretty sure that the ANBU from other countries wouldn't have Cute Forest Animal masks on like the Konoha ANBU....

Why do all the stormtrooper sux in Star wars it seems like they get killed off all the time!! and there suppose to be strong clones of Jango Fett

For the most part the ANBU have so far been nothing more then nameless good guys that the writers can kill off as they pleas to demonstrate the power of a more important bad guy. That is why you see so many die off, but the impression you get from them is that when they are not dieing for the sake of the story there out somewhere doing something important for the village.

I always thought that the ANBU were a little on the weak side. It seems like every episode there is an ANBU, there are ANBU corpses...

Thats just a situation of bad execution. The anbu, as mentioned previously, were supposed to be people of decent strength. Its just that all you see them doing is fighting people alot stronger than them. You dont see the parts where they execute large squadrons of chuunin, or when 4-6 of them wipe out a jounin (I assume most anbu are high level chuunin, but its already been shown that the gap between the two is rather large)

Also incase some people didnt know, != essentially means devided from, or not the same. Not sure if some of the responses towards that comment were based on thinking that I thought they were the same thing.

Until they do an ANBU story (Kakashi's time, Itachi's time, one of the genin becomes one) they will ALWAYS seem weak.

Their missions are always the hardest ones. Look at the current anime arc. When Oro appeared, who was the first there? Even though they realize they have almost no hope of winning/surviving, they still advance as aggresively as they can.

Their KIA (not the car) rate may be pretty high, but that doesn't make them weak.

ANBU are the best. So good they just happened to miss an ARMY like two trees away from where they were searching.
