So where did the supposed 45 episode count come from?

This... definitely sucks.

Welp, subs on Crunchy are out. Sadly, I feel like the translation lost quite a bit of nuance compared to the manga version. Considering that the base Japanese dialogue shouldn't have been altered, this is one deficiency I'll have to pin on the translators, rather than the adaptation committee.

The execution wasn't perfect this time, either, but well, this is still pretty much the single most important episode of the season. Everything is set up here: our first real exposition of Medaka's character, as well as most of the threads for the overarching conflict in this series in general. Honestly, at this point, we've just gotten started.

With the final/next upcoming episode being original material written up for the anime by Nishio, this episode marks the end of the manga material this adaptation will cover. After this anime is over, I highly encourage anybody who has stuck with us this far to look into the manga and join us for the next 120+ (and counting) chapters of the story.

The 45 episode rumor was a single site that people run with, I can bring up a heap of my posts telling people this was bullshit but lol @ people who disagreed. We may get a second season of MB but it won't be thanks to the performance of this season, it will be because it was planned from the beginning. Doesn't matter, the next part while better isn't that great outside of a few parts, sales will still be shit and the best part of this manga will never be animated.

You don't get it, GAINAX aren't like Dwayde Wade who can occasionally bring his A-Game and remind people he's a Top 5 basketballer. Gainax right now are Elton Brand and are a shell of what they used to be. All the talent in Gainax went to KHARA and TRIGGER, there's none left.

A for the most part by the book adaptation of the early parts of Medaka Box (which mostly sucked) with a low budget done by the remains of GAINAX was always going to flop. Why would a devoted manga fan who loves Kumagawa buy this? Poor Japanese fans right now, Zen being way too involved in the manga causes the WSJ rankings to drop like a rock over the last 4 months and than this piss poor anime version.

Well, the "last" episode didn't do any good for the preorders (I think it's done the opposite):

Funny thing that they became worse since the 9th episode, the start of action part.

As I said, even if Gainax will do the second season, with this pacing and production quality it won't be better than this. Hell, there weren't too much battle scenes in this season and still the animation was so cheap. With the second season it would be even worse.

The series has been entertaining so far. I usually did not even think about the animation quality until I started to follow this thread. I enjoyed the series for what it was, and I felt really good with it. I guess there are expectations when a manga is adapted to an anime. When I did not think about all the deficiencies that people complain about, it was a great series.

So Shiranui is the grand-daughter of the chairman. That was unexpected, but then again, it was not a shock. They seem to have a scheme in place. Does this make Shiranui an ally or a threat to Medaka? For now, she seems like an ally.

With Shiranui and her grandpa talking about the Flask Plan at the end of the episode season 2 is practically confirmed with independence of how good sales do.

They were just adapting this chapter of a manga faithfully, just that.

I don't know if i should be offended by it or not.

In one hand they are not butchering the script, but in other hand you can't help but question if they had any plans to begin with. Nothing of value is added in this adaptation, I doubt anyone likes the seiyuu choice here except Shiranui, so it's not exactly something the manga fan wanted to see really.

Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how the anime original episode turns out, as so far the anime had been just copying the manga frames to the exact without any innovation.

Medaka vs Unzen savage fight.
That kid is totally crazy without an ounce of compassion.
If he'd been raised by wild animals, he'd be better off than this.
On the other hand, Medaka was just scary strong.
Those two managed to take down the whole school.
Their little existential talk was pretty interesting too.
The twist with the invite to student council was just amazingly surprising after all that happened.
Great episode!

Hmm I think you have a point about this. I would wait for the Crunchy's subs instead of reading the translation from manga this time

Greatest episode in the series.

Too bad it is ending, and I'm going to pretend the anime ended here. Just so I'll remember it was good.

Nice that Kikaijima and Akune didn't have to think twice. As much as i hated Unzen, was glad the other SC members stopped Medaka. Lol at the completer chargeback though. Oh man no wonder Shiranui knows everything, she's the director's granddaughter!

She's rich, no problem even if she does have to pay for everything.

The school probably has some funds saved away for things like this. It should be obvious by now, but this is not a normal school. And...

Spoiler for small spoiler for much later:
