Rumiko Takahashi's One-Pound Gospel Dramatized for TV

The pop music group KAT-TUN's Kazuya Kamenashi (live-action Gokusen's Ryu) will star next January in a live-action television drama series adaptation of the One-Pound Gospel boxing manga by Rumiko Takahashi (Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, Urusei Yatsura). The love comedy features a 19-year-old boxer who falls for a girl training to be nun. Takahashi had just finished the manga after twenty years and four manga volumes this past March. Viz published the manga in English, and a 1988 anime video was produced. Nippon Television plans to run the drama for one year.

Dragon Ball Movie to Film This Year for 2008 Release

Final Destination's James Wong to direct Justin Chatwin (Goku)

Twentieth Century Fox has officially announced that it signed director James Wong (Final Destination, X-Files television series, The One) and casted twenty-five-year-old Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds, The Invisible, Lost television series) in the lead role of Goku for the movie adaptation of Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball action manga. According to the Variety newspaper, filming is set to begin this month, and the film is slated to open worldwide on August 15, 2008. James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Spike, Smallville's Brainiac) will play the antagonist Piccolo, and Stephen Chow, of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer fame, is producing the project.

Wong will not only direct the film, but he also rewrote an earlier script that was submitted by Ben Ramsey (The Big Hit). According to The Hollywood Reporter newspaper, the story centers around the alien Goku as an adult as he protects Earth — the very planet he was sent to destroy. Chatwin is training under the stunt firm 87Eleven (The Matrix, The Bourne Supremacy, 300). Other roles are still being casted. Previous reports have indicated that shooting will take place near Montreal, Canada and in Mexico, and that Heroes actor James Kyson Lee is auditioning for the role of Yamcha.

Between 1984 and 1995, Toriyama created 519 installments of the original manga for the publisher Shueisha and its Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The manga's 42 compiled volumes have sold over 150 million copies in Japan and over 300 million copies worldwide. Both the manga and its anime adaptations (Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z) have enjoyed success in countries in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. The 17 animated movies in the franchise have been seen a record 49 million times in Japanese theaters. Fox first acquired the live-action film rights to Dragon Ball in 2002.

Subaru Ballet Manga Adapted into Live-Action Movie

Warner Bros. Japan announced that it is producing a joint Japanese/Chinese film adaptation of Masahito Soda's Subaru manga about a budding ballerina. Actress and model Meisa Kuroki (Vexille's titular character, Crows Zero's Ruka) has already been filming on location in Shanghai with director Lee Chi-Ngai since October 28, after an earlier Tokyo shoot in September. The film's partners are planning a simultaneous 2009 opening throughout Asia, and are also hoping for releases in Europe and America.

The manga centers on Subaru (Kuroki) and her twin brother, both of whom love ballet and constantly visit ballet classes to watch the dancers. One day, the brother is bed-stricken by a brain tumor. While visiting her brother in the hospital, Subaru meets a formerly famous ballerina (Kaori Momoi) who was forced to give up dancing due to her declining physical condition. The former ballerina agrees to train Subaru to perhaps achieve her own ballet dreams.

The manga's 11 volumes have sold 1.8 million copies in Japan. The manga has yet to be released in North America, although it has been publishing in France, Germany, and Spain. Kuroki has been training for three hours nearly every day since June for her role, while Momoi is already a trained ballerina since she spent three years studying abroad at London's Royal Ballet School when she was 12.

Yuu Watese's manga Zettai Kareshi is getting a live-action adaptation!
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...or-live-action

Start: Fuji Tv April 8

Saki Aibu as Riiko
Mokomichi Hayami as Night
Hiro Mizushima as Soshi

My personal comment: LOL, Soshi is more handsome than the super-robot-cute Night (as far as I remember, it supposed to be different in the manga xD)
