Methinks this show has peaked... on ep 2.
I don't recall season 1 slipping away like this imo

..... or is it meant to be like this for now because of the originating source

Well, I think you'd need to provide more details on exactly what you mean, but if anything I thought this episode had a lot in common with a number of episodes in the first season in terms of elements/themes. Compare and contrast Kirino's date in this second season with the one in the first, and this Comiket experience with the one in the first. Seems like forward progress on multiple fronts.

I think it's more a case of trying to be protective of her, much like her father does he's probably scared of the time when she actually gets a boyfriend as it means she's grown up finally and she isn't just his little sister anymore. My little sister is only 3, but I don't know how I'd react in the future if she told me she had a boyfriend, it'd be weird.

ooops wrong ep thread

The above was for how I was feeling about this show after ep4 because I find myself scoring it lower after I watched ep2.

ep1) 8/10 (well it's the start...)
ep2) 10/10 (haven't peeked into the original source... not sure if true to source, but some of the exchanges between characters over a game were entertaining)
ep3) 7/10 ("interesting"... but nothing to write home about)
ep4) 6/10 (... "NEXT!")

ok ... I just watched ep5 today and FINALLY there's semblance of something building up (see rolling credits). Like you said above, #5 was all progress (especially for me after watching ep4). A solid 9/10 for me and I hope it holds up like that for the second half of season 2.

I had just watched episode 5. Kirino and Kyousuke dating were really funny at first until they had to improvise on their acting so that Kirino doesn't have to go overseas for a new modeling gig. The way that Manami looked at them both was a tad bit too far, and also Kanako was so dumbfounded that she did not even recognize Kyousuke since episode 10 of last season. I was happy seeing Bridget-chan from the same episode made a welcoming return back. Kuroneko looked like she had seen a ghost when she saw Kirino and Kyousuke linking each other's arm like an actual little sister eroge. At the very least, I was glad that she was told that the date was not even real in the first place. It has been a while since the gang went to Summer Comiket and had their first doujinishi circle. Kuroneko looked really beautiful wearing a white dress that Kirino gave to her and have her try it on. Anyway, the real shocker was at the very end where Kirino saw what looked like could be her boyfriend. I was like "OMG! What the hell! She really does have a boyfriend! I felt pissed because Kyousuke had tried really hard to get to know his sister ever since she introduced him to the otaku world and that the relationship between them would get better and now things have taken an ugly turn. Hopefully, things might clear up in the next few episodes.

Yeah, I don't get why Kirino felt the need to slap Kyousuke after he had just done her a huge favor by pretending to be her boyfriend, but then again it is Kirino who is 99% Tsun, 1% Dere.

And yet again, I was wishing Maschera was a real anime.

Because he hurts her? Kirino obiliviosly enjoy that date, and she wishes for more. But Kyousuke ruinied her excitement, thus she get angry.

Flying Dagger 大巧不工 Join Date: Dec 2003	Spoiler for Comparison to the novels+thoughts: Watched this late due to madou kokakou stealing my attention away. As much as this sound like beating a dead horse, the story feels rather rushed again. Not sure how non-LN readers feel, but for me it really hurts the immersion found while reading the novel. The focus of the episode feels so rushed! Like, before you can fully digest the date Kirino had with Kyousuke they were already at the comiket trying to sell their own doujin... I like this episode more than the Saori one though. There are more subtle hints towards Kyousuke and Kuroneko getting closer together (which I do not recall reading in the LN), such as him placing his hand on her (uncovered) shoulders and Kirino did not look all too happy seeing that. Facial expressions and body languages are elements I think should be utilized more often in anime adaptations: it is one of their edges against their LN counterpart.
