(CR) Saki Achiga-hen: Episode of Side-A (anime)

OMFG Koromo in episode 3. Wasn't expecting that to happen. Now that we see some familiar characters I wonder if we will see more of them. Saki's appearance was pretty cool. Wonder if the crew will see Nadoka in later episodes which will boost their moral to get a chance to play with her in the finals. New ED also pretty decent one.

For some reason this season of Saki reminds me of Bamboo Blade. Maybe it's the cat mouths or something and the atmosphere. The atmosphere in this season is more like casual slice of life, than focus on mahjong. There is mahjong but no mahjong focused matches just yet.

Koromo❤! And everyone else! Mahjong with superpowers! How I missed you all.

Boy did I ever love this episode. Just like the first series, Achiga-hen had a slow start, but once it gets going, man-oh-man does it rock.

Saki's entrance... just wow. This show isn't shy about giving the old characters an air of divinity, and that's just plain awesome.

Any Saki is fun. If there's one thing I really missed from the first season, it's definitely her. Her enthusiasm is always so contagious.

Anyway, unfortunately my fears have been confirmed and they have chosen to be remarkably loyal to the original material when adaptating this series. Aw well, I guess I'll just take what I'm given.

Just as I get to this scene... where they're walking right into the place...

I just can't help but laugh: "OMG, I hope these Achiga girls know WTF they just walked themselves into."

Well its nice to see them include some anime-only scenes ( or is it? ) of them trashing Bansei, but at the pace the anime is going, perhaps they will need to include some filler episodes after all.

And to think Kiyosumi even got that far without a proper coach, unless you count Hisa as one. They must have been really lucky collecting some scary players.

THE KOROMO Thank you so much to all the anime staff for showing her in all her unholy glory. Seriously, we never got to see her in darkness mode in the achiga manga, and that made all the difference, at least as far as my fangasming is concerned.

And of course, she owned like only the Koromo can. Nice detail from Akado from getting worried poor Shizuno might end up scarred for life. Fortunately, Shizuno has more spirit than that.

And of course, the moment we've all been waiting for

Toki and Ryuuka are adorable.

Why are you making my ears bleed, Cela, why!? Ok, she's a tomboy, I get it, now please make her sound better.

Speaking of voices, I'm just loving Shizuno's voice, especially how she goes from super genki to serious business, aka "I want to see Nodoka" mode in a heartbeat. It's a simple but good way to know she truly cares, and to keep us from forgetting that in the end, this is about meeting an old "friend" and just having fun like the old times instead of all the pseudo-drama from s1. Sure, there's a competitive spirit, but getting re-acquinted with Nodocchi is priority number one.

Serious ED this time around, I'm impressed, and it sounds pretty nice too.

(I mean, she can sense Koromo's aura from far away, like Kamille)...And that is probably after those matches Koromo does a Darkness last hand finger...)

Saki is a monster class, you don't need a coach

About Saki's aura... I'm skeptical because... (if you remember)... Saki almost wet her pants when feeling Koromo's power.

However... I can shove the speculation off... if... Buchou... did some kind of crazy ass mahjong camp to increase Saki's power level to well beyond 9000

My god Cela's voice is horrible!

Now that i got that out of the way, i gotta say that i enjoyed this episode quite a bit. Everyone of the new characters (aside from Cela's) were good and i really enjoyed the extra scenes the anime gave us. But what i liked best was seeing the old characters from season 1 and that extra ending.

For a moment, I thought Saki might have gone "face turn heal" at some point in the tournament. Sadly it's not the case. Could be an interesting development if she does. Something along the line of taken over by the darkside mahjong from over exerting her powers too much.

Here's my imagination, Saki had a hidden evil split personality and maybe her family force her to do that +/- 0 thing to prevent her evil side from taking over. Teru fear of Evil Saki made her refuse to acknowledge Saki as her sister. Saki's dad have no knowledge of this since he doesn't play mahjong. Evil Saki fully awaken in the final round of the tournament and becomes the series Big Bad. Achiga team then join forces with Nodoka and Teru team in the end to take down Evil Saki and return Saki to her former self. At climax, Nodoka confess to Saki and kiss her to snap her back to normal. Everyone end up being friends. THE END

The true darkside to mahjong involves: Gambling. Which - I hope Saki never got into that stuff.

By which - it is amazing now how this series is making us speculate on the main Saki plot line - despite of how much many of us have seen it.

Wow, that was super fast paced. It felt like we went through 12 episodes in just this one episode. I can't believe we are already at the nationals. At the pace they are going, we'll finish nationals and head into pro by the next episodes.

It was really good to see Saki. Finally, the sense of super-powered mahjong is back.

As much as I do want to see her battle it out with Akagi in a dark and dinky parlor...

Legendary Gambler Tetsuya = Mahjong with cheating.
Saki = Mahjong with moe and superpowers.
