I'd love to. Alas, four mouths to feed do not allow much room for new expenditures, nowadays.

Why a visual collection when you can have the real thing?

Not when you consider overseas shipping. Which is why I still haven't ordered mine (waiting on another book)...

Alto cannot use his real name due to his profession as a member of the SMS and obviously due to his infamous involvement with Sheryl, so he is assuming the name of Uekusa Shion, which sounds like vexation (if you pronounce it fast enough in a Japanese accent).

It then goes on to say that Alto is an acting trainer for the SMS, who travels around colonial fleets to instruct new pilots.

The two SMS fighters involved are

SMS1123

and

SMS727

As we know, 11/23 is Sheryl's birthday while 07/27 is Alto's birthday.

And, apparently Sheryl can now pilot a VF-25...

Well, they are not involved in any combat zones... so the worst scenario here would be for Sheryl to crash and burn... problem is, even that is a tad difficult to pull with the VF-25...

I haven't seen the book around, so I can't check yet...but as soon as I find it, I'll let y'all know.

However, it should be pointed out that the Master File books have an infuriating note in them explaining that they "are not part of the official setting" of Macross, meaning nothing in them is canonical information.

That's good. I hope Sheryl's piloting a Valkyrie of the color of her hair in this.

Because I can't imagine Sheryl as a VF-25 pilot in canon (besides... isn't she busy with her career?). If it's side material for fun, it's fine.

Glad you posted that before I preordered. I do have a newfound appreciation for all the mecha, but I really don't think I'd have time to read everything that's 'not canon' as well.

Then again, what exactly IS canon in Macross, anyway?

Though I might still think about getting it...when I have more disposable income...

That said,

What's mentioned in Macross Chronicles...?

Macross 'canon' is a very loose thing. Ever since the infamous "all is fiction" stuff.

I think the Master File books are still a good buy. TONS of nice illustrations (generally using CG or the model kits or some blending of the two).

But since they are meant to mimic "real world" aircraft books, there are also tons of pages of closely-printed text, detailing every single feature of each aircraft, interviews with pilots, accounts of endurance tests and things like that. And THAT'S the stuff that's "unofficial."

So take them as art books, and you won't be disappointed.

And twice as much for shipping, here. No, it's not something I can really afford, mate. Best of luck to you, who can, tho.
